1. Hi Finbar Am I right in thinking you live near Sheffield ? If so you can come over to my place and try the set up you describe, I've got a Compact. I live at Wentworth, just outside Rotherham. Cheers Steve
2.
I got some Wizard 64's and put them in last night, they sound pretty nice.
I'm trying to decide between the 64's and 84's. Do the 64's give you anything like the John Paul Jones sound, I don't want it too middley. Cheers Steve
3. Could you let us know what the 84's are like please. I'm thinking of some for my Jazz. Cheers Steve
4. Hi Tony Welcome to the forum. Looks like you got some interesting gear there mate ! Have fun Steve
5. Mr T I think what you have just described is more or less what you get with the compact. I have been using 4 x 10's before getting the compact and i'm very happy with it. It is stupidly easy to transport too. It is easily loud enough for pub gigs, I haven't done any large gigs with it yet. Still can't comment on the Aggie tho. If you lived nearer to me you could come and try it. Hope this helps. Steve
6. I've got a Compact and it's great. Plenty loud, good tight bottom and very clear (I play mainly rock). Can't comment on the Aguilar tho ! Steve
7. I'm using a Markbass LMK with my Compact and it sounds great and plenty loud enough. Also sounds good with a Sansamp Bass Driver in the chain too !
8.
clean powerful punchy bigness.but keeping the bottom end.
As far as the cabs go I'd look at Alex's Barefaced range.
9. Hi Alex Not sure if this is on the right thread or not. First Impressions. Got the Compact yesterday and straight to band practice last night, not much time to experiment so it was plug and play. Using a customised Fender P through a Mark Bass LMK ( I have been using this set up with a 4ohm 4 x 10 ). Band last night was a loud Rock/Metal/Punk band. When they saw the Compact I could see the "is that going to be loud enough" look on their faces.. It was plenty loud enough and more.. Couldn't tell the difference in volume to the 4 x 10.. For a laugh I kept asking them if they wanted me to turn up... They didn't. So it's plenty loud but the main benefit for me was in the tone. Great old school tone but clearer, no mud, if that makes sense. Nice tight lows, smooth even mids when I wanted and a nice upper mid grind when I wanted that and it surprised me how much top it produced when I cranked up the treble. All in all exactly what I wanted. For those who think you need a 4ohm cab to get the volume... You don't ! Thanks for a great cab Alex Cheers Steve
10. Just picked up my Compact from the courier as I was not in when they tried to deliver it yesterday. Band practice tonight.... Get ready !!
11. The VPF filter on the MB will get rid of mids for you.
12.
Roll on Monday
+1.....Or Tuesday, or Wednesday, or when it gets here !
13. Welcome back to the forum Have fun Steve
14. Welcome to the forum, thats not a bad amp for a 17 year old, well for anyone really ! Have fun Steve
15. I have an American P with a Quarterpounder and it has plenty of bottom. I agree about the flatwounds too !
16. I agree that Alex's cabs are the way to go but if you want to try a Berg 410 I've got one (it's the HS410 tho but I'm told they sound similar) I use it with a MB LMK and live about an hour away from you. Cheers Steve
17. I've heard good things about the EBS Multi-Comp for live work, anybody had any experience of those ?
18. Hi Geoff I've got a HS410 you can try if you like ( WoT's old one ), I'm just outside Sheffield if thats any closer for you. Cheers Steve Oh and I've got an Ampeg SVT 410HLF you can try as well if thats your sort of thing.
19. Yep, we do the drop D thing in the Originals band I play in. Great stuff, love it.

I've just bought a Bartolini mm pickup from Tony. Great comms, great transaction, great delivery, great guy. Highly recommended to deal with. Steve
21. Welcome to the forum Andy. Lots of good stuff on here. Steve
22. Hi T Can you tell me, is the pickup wired in series or parallel ? Also, I assume it's a direct replacement for a MM Stingray pup. Cheers Steve
23. Thanks very much for that, very helpfull. I've tried the rotos and find them a bit muddy for what I want. I'll give the GHS and Daddarios a go. Cheers Steve
24.
FWIW I use predominantly flatwounds so have tried quite a few. I have settled with GHS and D'addario. Mostly because although they are quite bright initially they 'dirty up' after a couple of weeks. This then makes a wonderful tone that I am happy with. Status and DR boht make nice ones too but stay a bit too brite for my liking. Roto's and Fenders I just dont get on with, they feel very rough under my fingers. Hope that helps.
Hi Burpster Can you tell me, did you have the Rotosounds long enough to be able to comment on the difference in sound between those and the Daddario's ? Cheers Steve
