2. Believe me, I would... but I live overseas, so taking anything heavier than plans is out of the question. thanks for the help.
As everyone's already said, you can't just reduce the thickness of ply and expect it to perform well - the thinner the ply gets, the more bracing you have to add. So although weight goes down the build complexity/time goes up - but if you're building the cab yourself and you have the time and are precise with your woodwork then there's nothing to lose (other than unwanted weight!) As I've demonstrated a few times you can not only sit on my cabs, you can stand on them and jump up and down! I'd recommend both greenboy's fEarful plans and Bill F's Omni/DR ones - if you're looking for small/light the Omni 10.5 is a good approach. And if you mind you have more money than time then you know where to come! Alex
4. Thanks for the comments, definitely thinking of plywood ... I'm drooling over the omni 10 and 15. If they can deliver what they promise I might give them a shot !!!. How frustrating I have to wait until I get back home in September. Now I really hate studying.
You could always build a BFM Omni 10.5. http://www.billfitzmaurice.com If I remember rightly they weigh in at around 28-32lbs, depending on the density of the ply you use. You can trim the weight a bit by using 1/2" ply.
5. Hi, I have built my own speaker cabs in the past but mainly copying one from a reputable make. I just got myself a Ashdown Little Giant and wondered if I could make a relatively small and light cab for it. Not to use its full power, but to use in those practice situations were a mini combo is not enough. My question is , what effect does a decrease in wood thickness bring to the cab, lets say down from 3/4" to 1/2" or less? I obviously expect it to be less durable (not a good candidate for sitting on), but besides that would the lower rigidity compromise sound?? In what way?? thanks

 8. +1 for the IBANEZ SR300 series (305 in my case) and the YAMAHA BB cheapos (can't remember the model, maybe also a 300). the pickups were their weak side.... Now all my basses cost in the £400-500 range, and what I appreciate of them is quality electronics, comfortable necks and that they make me want to pick them up and play (2nd hand Status's and a Musicman SUB5). The graphite neck also means it never goes out of tune. I think that from 500 up, you just pay for amazing finishes, exotic woods and the inherent satisfaction of having a rare bass. This probably nobody will notice except for one or two drooling bassplayers in the crowd. Blew me away at the London Guitar Show... Cant seem to find a dealer tho!
9. Any chance you prefer to sell it and order a black one????
Still searching. Thanks.
10. Its only a feeler... I really like my SUB5, but I've also got a Groove 4 and love the feel of the neck, so I would like to compare the five stringers against each other. I know it is a very specific trade, but I don't know which is the better bass for me and as they are both discontinued no chance of comparing them in a shop. I would also welcome any Londoner with a Groove 5 that might let me try it out. Also, any comments from people that have played both cheers.
 11. you missed a great amp. Got the same one back home. Great tones (a bit heavy though )
Whaaaaaaaat? I missed out there big time.
12. I actually like the more aggressive flying Vs (in guitar actually, like jacksons) IMHO. Not being able to play it sitting down is a drawback and quite annoying.... Normally cheap instruments save on the expensive to fix stuff like earthing, electronics, tunners... etc so try before you buy. In any case I think if you are considering a Thunderbird..... wow, I think it kicks the FV's behind anytime .... keep your money and get the T-bird. Also Epiphone have proven to be reliable.
I nearly bought a headless transparent plexi Steinberger copy for about £150. I GASed for it because of looks. I am SO glad I held off. It would be worth naff all. Save up, get a decent instrument. Forget that V.
13. Sorry Trev, but the status case has been sold. Still got the other one though cheers
I would be interested in the Status case if its available & fits a headed bass, I work in EC4 so can pick up from mile end tube, Trev
14. come on, there must be someone who needs a case at a very good price...
yeah, sorry.... missed that info.... East London near Mile End Tube Station cheers
These are great basses, really nice. Have played a couple of them in the past but couldn't make my mind between the 5 and 6 string. If I hadn't just swapped my 5 string Status Energy for a 6 string I would be knocking at your door anytime good luck selling it.
I agree with everything `out to play jazz` says.Having both TRB6p and TRB5p I`m a big fan. There`s a whole lot of bass for your money with the one being offered.Strangely, they have not become popular for some reason, but they wipe the floor with other flavour of the month basses.Quality for not a great deal of money!!
17. still here, actually only interested in Status basses. 6 string or Electro (4 or 5) (or of course the money)
Hadn't really considered Warwick's, If it has got smaller string spacing, I would surely consider it. You could PM me with pics of the bass. cheers
18. Well, I did what I could, but good for you. I might just keep the Status.... it sounds amazing...
Sorry, a 62 RI Jazz has its number..If i can get the it to him.. nice Status though!
19. Hadn't really considered Warwick's, If it has got smaller string spacing, I would surely consider it. You could PM me with pics of the bass. cheers
Would you be interested in a trade for a Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string ? I'm after a bass with slightly wider string spacing to make shifting between my Fender J4 and a five string easier.
20. Got a 5 string Status Energy (wooden neck) I would be happy to trade. Very fast neck.... A TRB6 is the only thing other than a Status, I would consider changing for... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=45019 cheers
