1. If you're not aware, this week sees the release of a brand new Esbjorn Svensonn Trio album 301 - it's being said it's some of the best stuff they've ever recorded to tape. All live, recorded in one long recording session. If that wasn't enough, there is also a brand new Phronesis album due out on the 2nd April. Good time
2. Bump (now offered for sale as well).
3. Absolutely no one interested at all style bump?
4. *Bump* Now with added pictures...
5. I have a Phil Jones Bass Cub up for trade/sale if anyone is interested? I bought it from here over a year ago (I think?) and paid £300 for it. New they retail anywhere between £370 to £470 or there abouts. A fantastic quality amp that's really well built, superb sound quality and has a gig bag too. The unit is in fantastic condition, the gig bag is missing one foot but otherwise great condition as well. Has the manual somewhere too. I'm looking for a trade on this one ideally. I really need a compact 1x12 cabinet at 8ohm to go with my Promethean combo. As the Promethean is already compact, I can't justify two small amps when the Promethean can do everything I need. I just need that extra *umph* from an extension speaker, and I think 1x12 would be just the ticket. Not sure which 1x12 to be honest, but I'd prefer not be offered Ashdown or Trace Elliot cabs. Just not my thing I'm afraid, though there's nothing wrong with them. I'm also not interested in the Promethean 1x10 to go with the combo. I want that flexibility of using the combo on it's own, or the head with the 1x12, or both units together. So what do people have? If it comes down to a sale, then I think £260 inclusive of a fully insured courier service or £250 cash collected would do it. PM me any questions. Cheers.
6. Great review on the Red Sub 'Neephied' - very interesting bit of kit
7. I never used to drink....... then I had children
8. A Yolanda Charles gig I attended back in 2010 in Preston, which I've just uploaded to Soundcloud for download http://soundcloud.com/fourfingerfunk/sets/yolanda-charles-miles-bould/
9. Hey guys, thought you might appreciate this. I've just uploaded the Yolanda Charles gig I attended way back in march of 2010. It was at the Mad Ferret in Preston with her husband on drums and was like a music workshop. Full details are listed on the Soundcloud page. Hopefully Yolanda won't mind, but it was a corking set, and it seems a shame not to share it. http://soundcloud.com/fourfingerfunk/sets/yolanda-charles-miles-bould Enjoy
10. 100% agree with that article. I'm very lucky with my band in that the the singer does most of the bookings, and he's very strict and level headed when he does this. A minimum fee for the band or get someone else, end of. I'm sharing that link
11.
That I do understand. Many people are completely unappreciative of the effort it takes to get up on stage with a band and try to entertain.
Agreed. It's weird though how the same set, same effort, same performance gets such wildly differing responses. Just part and parcel of the deal I guess
12. The word I would use is frustration rather than contempt. Especially if you're playing your socks off and hardly anyone is paying attention. I don't have contempt at the audience for that, but it's frustrating nonetheless.
13. I'm by no means an expert myself, but I was given some good advice quite a few years ago. When trying out a bass I always try to play it acoustically first with no amp. Shop sellers know lots of tricks to big up the first impression of an instrument, when trying to get sales. This will include tried and tested chops and licks that sound impressive played through the best bass amp making unsuspecting buyers go wow! Playing a bass acoustically if you can first gives you a reasonable measure of how it actually sounds without coloration from an amp. It's by no means fool proof, but I've found it very helpful in the past. Plus, asking a shop seller to go somewhere quiet to try out an instrument probably says more about your professionalism than any number of fancy chops you could play. Shop owners/assistants are probably not bothered if you're a good a bad player, just whether you're a good or bad payer!
14. Welcome to the site. Some corking vibes you've got going there matey. I'll give this a proper listen later, but I foresee a purchase for my birthday
15. Good shout out on the Harley Benton rebadge. I just wish someone would do a 1x12 to suit the Promethean :/
16. Seek and you shall find: 2x10 cabinet for £190 http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/RedSub-B210T-Bass-Cabinet-2-x-10/H4S
17. Hells bells, have you read the spec of the combo, 500 watts at 8 ohms! Anyhow, three hundred noughts for a 500 watt combo is great value. £240 just for the head makes it a viable option as a backup unit too. I wonder it they're planning cabs too?
18. Spotted this and thought that anyone interested in a uBass might want to consider a new range of uke basses by Kamoa. The bass bit is around 4.50. Not much else to go off yet and no real sound clips, but this looks really nice with proper strings etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXt1aYxTE90&feature=youtube_gdata_player
19. If you're looking for a better practice amp, maybe look at something like the Roland Cube amps. Still perfect for practice as they're not too loud, but offer good tone for their size and will crank a bit if needed, as and when you decide to join a band. They also have headphone sockets out too, so you can be even quieter if required. Failing that, have a look around on the forum for sale section, or put up a 'wanted' advert on here. Must BC-ers are very generous and willing to help out if they can.
20. Not really, but I do often wonder who has it now. It was a Hohner P-bass with fretless neck in sunburst finish. It weighed a bloody tonne, and if there was a ever a nuclear war that thing would of survived. It was built to last, and no matter how many times it got dropped, pranged or dinged it never once gave up. I'm sure a lot of my current back problems are due to that bass and my then poor skill and posture
21. I believe Kala's are known for taking several weeks for the strings to settle in, especially as the strings are very stretchy. I don't own a Kala, but I've been following several Youtube posters avidly as I do want to buy one eventually. Any how, a video you may find useful: http://youtu.be/0aVEzhjXaTc Failing that, there's a great uBass player on Youtube called Magnus, and he's super helpful to boot. Maybe email him if you don't find the answers here: http://www.youtube.com/user/bassMAGics?feature=watch
22.
For a little bit more normal..
I've got their albums at home, and haven't listened to them in bloody ages. I'm so digging these out tonight
