Why is one quieter? HAve they got different valves in? Or is the circuit different?
the both run on jj 6l6 now. But, they're two completely different amps. which makes it hard... and they both sound pretty damn good.

So i have both of these amps and one should go. I want a sound like the guy from ISIS and well it's a tough choice. I play a stingray by the way. - The v4b from the 70's is an ultimate vintage sounding amp. The roar and overdrive are just AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING. In punches through everything, it's loud, pure, and man it's a beast. But it's hard to stay somewhat clean at higher volumes. And it's a sketchy combination with the stingray. And THAT bothers me quite a lot. It's like it can't handle the 'ray. But with everything on the stingray set flat, it sounds really cool. This amp was hard to find, and well it looks amazing as well. For the looks alone i'd keep it haha. Last bandpractice it sounded AMAZING with everything flat. - The v4b from the 90's is a SVT baby actually. Almost sounds the same, looks the same, controls are the same. Just lower volumes. Great mids on this amp, and greeeeeat higher tones. It never ever let me down, ever. Even on tour when it froze - 20 it still worked and rocked. But it doens't have the balls that the other amp has. One of these has got to go to fund my rickenbacker... So... comments and advice please. I'd appreciate it.

If you like mids and higher ends get the HE. If you dig Bottom end... get the HLF. I chose 2 HE's and the result is almost the same as a 810. I like 'em alot.

FOR SALE: A 70's AMPEG V4B. He's in PERFECT condition and sounds like it should sound. FAT AND WARM. Overdive is lovely as well. I bought this a few months ago, I got it retubed, revised, it had a full check up and it's fully working. I'm selling this because i 'm saving up for a new bass (ric 4003, stingray... I don't know yet) I paid 975 euro's but would lik eto get 950 euro for it. I'll take trades with stingrays, rics, fender basses as well (vintage please)

well last saturday I drove 2 hours to pick up my dream amp. An AMPEG v4-B from the 70's. It's in amazing condition and well i was pretty psyched to use it an the rehearsal. atthe rehearsal it sounded really good at low volumes. but when i played it louder it got in an instant overdrive, which got annoying after a while. I play a stingray and 2 ampeg 4*10 cabs as well... what are your settings when playing with this amp? Take care, Kev

yeah they're very cool. I can imagine the neckdive, the headstock is huge. They're cool sounding basses, they're pretty cheap as well.

I totally agree. I still have one now and I owned several other grabbers and rippers as well. The price they're asking is pretty outrageous. Especially when you can buy the original rippers and grabbers for 600 dollars these days. I bet that a whole lot of people would get a decent boutique bass for such a high price. this doesn't make much sense either
