2.
Really? It all amounts to part of the "I know nothing so don't come crying to me when you find out for yourself" lie.
That's what the tired old cynic at the heart of my being tells me. I'm just trying to ignore him a bit more these days.
 3.
Actually I'm thankful I'm a bassist! It has saved me a fortune! Guitarists constantly amass...
I'm not (primarily) a guitarist, but let me take a look through your list: picks - CHECK (back pocket full of them, various shapes and sizes) pedals - CHECK (more than I can fit on one board... see below) multi-effects pedals - does a Bass PodXT with foot controller count? pedal boards - CHECK (got one overflowing with pedals... thinking about getting another) power supplies - CHECK (got five of various voltages and polarities) batteries - CHECK (use 'em in my basses and my Ebow) cables (short, long, patch, etc) - CHECK (loads) different types of guitar for different sounds - CHECK the same types of guitar for the same sound - nah, I'm not mental amps for different sounds - have had in the past amps for the same sound but at different volumes - nah valve amps for vintage - can't afford it, but would like one solid-state for something different - CHECK (solid state for everything, in my case) broken amps for 'projects' - CHECK straps for all their guitars - CHECK (more straps than basses at the moment) cases (one soft and one hard for each guitar) - CHECK (more cases than basses at the moment) complete packs of strings - CHECK incomplete packs of strings with the high E having been pilfered cos they keep breaking it - CHECK (except it's the low E with me) mixed sets of different branded strings cos they can never find the complete packs they buy - nah capos - CHECK (although only one) tuners (clip-on, pedal types, chromatic, non-chromatic) - CHECK (got two)
 4.
Boss power supply for my distortion pedal - £28
£28?! Holy scha-moly. Have Boss upped their game in the power-supply world? Or is it the ol' PSA-240? I've had decent results with supplies from Argos or Maplin (£10 tops), and if I was going to spend £20-odd, I'd go for the 1-Spot combo package so I could power a bunch of pedals from one supply. Sorry, Sarah. Don't mean to piss on your chips. Have fun at your audition!
 5.
I nip into local guitar shop for 'a few little bits' and end up spending £47. And they didn't even have 5 string strings in, so it would've been even worse!!
Yeah, if they'd had a 5-string set of TI flats in, you'd have doubled that! So... spill them beans. How does "a few little bits" come to £47? Even a bag of 10 plectrums is only going to be about £3...
 6.
Some of the parts are original and the neck does have a value but bids were pulled that indicate folks were prepared to pay big money... in which case some fools may still think it is all MM and bid £1000+
To the seller's credit (and I'm feeling particularly charitable today ), the very fact that he's added this...
I have had a couple of messages from ebayers who are saying this guitar is not a music man guitar and have asked me to let all know about it. Like i have said in my description i know nothing about guitars and cant play them i came across the guitar in a clearence. Now weather these ebayers are after a cheap music man bass by trying to put people off and there is nothing wrong with it or they are telling the truth i really dont know. So i will leave it up to you to deside .
...makes me think he genuinely knows nothing. Anyone who was suspicious before they read that would then dutifully run a mile, and those who weren't at all suspicious would then feel they should at least look into it. Hats off to him. Many eBay sellers wouldn't do that.
 7.
LMII is class A/B i think?
Oh yeah. Of course. I'm even more confused about the noise now then. EDIT: No, wait. It's still got a switching power supply, so is it possible that the power supply kind of "runs down" its clock speed as it powers down, thus creating a falling-frequency noise?
 8.
also think it was a bit cheeky having the brit-funk issue one month, followed by the zender issue the next month when surely they could have all gone in the one issue.
Actually, for once, I didn't mind that. The interview (or at least the photoshoot) with Zender was clearly done at the same time as the Brit-funk feature, but they got enough material to separate it out over two issues. I wouldn't have a problem with them running in-depth interviews with each of the players from the Brit-funk feature over the next few months. Next issue: Stefan Redtenbacher?
 9. Right. Here's a perfect example of my problem with the pictures in reviews. I recently had a look on the Yamaha website, and was surprised to discover that the BB2024X (the silly-expensive one) strings through the body diagonally. Take a look. Now, I may have led a sheltered life, but I've never seen that before. Certainly not on a mass-produced bass. I think it's an interesting enough feature to warrant a picture in the BGM review, but no. Not even a mention in the text, IIRC. I guess I'm adding nothing by pointing this out, but I'm in that sort of mood.
 10.
I like the stuff he did with john martyn. Wasnt he in pentangle as well?
Why aye, man. And loads more. Highlights include Kate Bush, Everything But The Girl, Peter Gabriel, Alison Moyet, Talk Talk (love those albums!) and T Rex.
 11.
The class D amp and the poswer supply are both switching types. It might be a beat between the two frequencies that you can hear. Or it could be that the filtering on the class D low pass filter is not quite right. When you switch off, as the voltage drops the switching frequency of the ampm and psu will shift, so the audible effect will change.
So is this what causes my Little Mark II to do a sort of falling "ptschooooo" noise when I switch off, regardless of where the master volume's set? I always wondered about that. I kind of like it -- it's kinda cute.
 12. I think all mine have already been covered. From my formative years (before I played anything other than piano): Paul Simon - Graceland Paul Young - No Parlez Peter Gabriel - all his solo albums And once I started playing ultra-short scale piccolo 6-strings... OK, guitars... these led me towards the bottom end: King Crimson - Red Pixies - all the albums Smiths - so many great lines from Andy Rourke
 13.
But I am considering skipping the Bassballs route and moving onto the EHX Enigma Q Balls- tried one briefly before xmas and really liked it, though I´d need to have a much longer look at it as it´s kind of expensive.
Got an Enigma from a Basschatter a few weeks back, and I've still not found the time to really have a thorough sit down and fiddle with it. However, from my brief dalliance with it, I can say two things: 1) it's definitely going on my pedalboard; and 2) it's a sensitive and fiddly beast that's going to take some time to fully get to grips with. I got some awesome sounds out of it. If you take a look over on Talkbass, there's a big thread full of soundclips people have made. Quite an eye-opener.
 14. Not an eBay link, but for any of the Matsumoku-lovers that might've missed it, our very own FlatEric is selling one of his Westone Rails. If I had the cash to spare, I'd have it for myself.
 15.
Aha - it's something like that Epiphone but all-black. Wasn't sure if was hollow-bodied or not...
Eccleshall 335. Anyway, I like Simon Gallup. Over-rated? Under-rated? Don't know. Don't care.
 16. Just to clarify... I voted "Uncool", because it's catastrophically uncool. However, I'm catastrophically uncool myself, and I would play this bass in a heartbeat. It appeals to me enormously, but it's still uncool.
 17.
Aha - wasn't sure as I've never seen it clearly.
Now I've said that, I think he's also using an Epiphone Jack Casady occasionally:
 18.
I'd agree with that too. Had an influence on me, I must say. I really like the chunky bass he's been playing for a fair few years now, but don't know what make it is.
I thought he was Gibson Thunderbirds all the way these days?
 19.
Oh and what's going on with that neck plate?
Interesting, innit? Almost the right shape for the era, and it's still got the micro-tilt adjustment hole. Looks like it's made from an old Coke can though.
 20.
Wouldn't mind the neck though.
+1
 21. Looks like a late-70s SR headstock, but that's not a MM bridge. And I'm pretty sure the neck plate should have a logo and serial number if it's late-70s as the headstock suggests. But I'm no expert, unlike this site.
 22.
Whats the country they were doing that in then? I guess you'd just need to play a note with a frequency that matches their national grid frequency - so 50Hz here, 60Hz in the USA - to drive the chainsaw at its "best". LOL.
Easily done in the UK: 50 Hz is a slightly sharp G on the 3rd fret of the E-string. Fret it, bend it up a bit and... voila! Boost the bass and cut everything else so you're getting more fundamental than anything else and you're away. Wonder what the impedance of a chainsaw is...
 23.
Pfff.... that's halved it's value right there.
IIRC (and Dave might correct me if he finds his way onto this thread), it was his first bass, so it'll be the one that he bashed out Buzzcocks and Undertones covers on through his youth. Which probably halves the value again.
 24. Hold on... I've got a black Hondo Precision-copy stuffed with an EMG. £300ish for a Status neck, a little bit for a new pickguard, and I can stick it on eBay for £1k+? It's even got provenance: "played by North-East bass legend Dave Anderson". Sweet.
 25.
I saw this digital mixer on the bay which i wouldn't mind taking a punt at if i'd had more money. I'm just wondering though because it appears they want to charge VAT on top of the final price and i'm wondering if they're allowed to do this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
No, they're not, according to eBay's own T&Cs for businesses, which state:
Remember that If you're VAT registered, and therefore must charge VAT on the items you sell, the prices visible to buyers in your listings must be inclusive of VAT.
If you want it, contact them and tell them that. If they kick up a fuss, report them.
