1.
the same bass is in the for sale section here....
So it is! I guess it really is 36"-scale.
 2. http://www.ebay.co.u...em=260856017254 A 5-string Jazz custom from Howard "Satelli" (weirdest spelling of Satterley I've ever seen... the Bass Doc's Italian cousin, maybe? ). Claims to be 36" scale, but then follows up with "i.e. long scale", so who knows. Maybe Howard?
 3.
Can someone let me know the correct notification setting so I don't keep getting instant notifications. I turned it to off and offline and didn't get any, turned it back on and I've just noticed 20+ emails in my inbox just from this thread alone. Cheers.
^^^ This. This right here. It's like war in my inbox.
 4.
Can we have a 'to top of the page' button again please? Or have I not found its new location?
Right down at the bottom, between "Help" and "Community Forum Software...", there's an arrow pointing up. That's yer puppy right there.
 5.
I can't see the wiki anywhere. I know it wasn't used that much (probably because people never seemed to notice it), but if it's still here it's visibility seems to be zero ATM. I rather miss the graphic of the Jazz-a-like at the top (was it a Sandberg?) but I'll get used to it. Other than that, nice work!
It's still at http://wiki.basschat.co.uk/ Not visible from the new site, but still there (for now at least...).
 6.
Awesome, just tried it and worked first time. Thanks for that!
Glad to be of service.
 7. Where is this mobile version of which you speak, gents? I'm on my Android phone (HTC Sensation) and it just loads the full site.
 8.
Morning, gang! I'm still not getting notifications... Should I be?
All notifications were turned off by default for me. I've been into my settings and turned 'em all back on again, but I'm not popular enough to have had anything through yet.
 9.
Hey guys, I've just got Logic 8 studio, but not got an interface yet. At the moment the way I'm getting round it is using a soundcraft folio notepad mixer, and sending a stereo signal from that into the line in input on the back of the Mac. What I'm wondering is if it's possible for Logic to see that I'm using two channels on the mixer at once, and split it between two tracks on Logic, e.g imagine OHL and OHR on a drum kit, or is the hard ware not advanced enough to tell logic where it's mean to designate each track to.
The line-in input on the Mac is essentially a two-channel interface, so Logic will allow you to record either a stereo track (using Inputs 1 and 2), or two mono tracks (or just one if you like, of course). The left channel of the line-in will be Input 1, and the right will be Input 2. So yes, you can record OHL and OHR to two separate mono tracks (just hard pan them left and right), but nothing else at the same time. Or you could record (say) mono bass on one channel and mono guitar on the other, or whatever you want. But only ever 2 mono tracks (or one stereo track) at a time. To select an input for a track, click and hold on the box below "I/O" above the level meter for that track in the mixer. That'll bring up the inputs you've got available (i.e. 1 and 2, in this case). And to change a track in Logic from mono to stereo (or vice-versa), click the little circle symbol under the lever meter in the mixer. Circle = mono; two linked circles = stereo.
 10.
There will be no difference in tension. Tension is dependant on the speaking length of the string, the unit mass of the string and the note produced. Extra string length beyond the nut and the the saddles is irrelevant. However there may be a difference in compliance (and therefore feel of the string) which is affected by this extra string length.
Ah, I see my stock response to threads like this is not required. Very good, that man. Carry on.
 11. Just had a look at the retail page for Bass Day, with a floorplan of the stands. 5 stands in the bar/cafe room, and another 5 in the live room with the stage. I haven't been to Bass Day before, but I imagine that's a fair trimming down from previous years. I don't envy anyone with a trade stand in the main live room.
 12.
I'm wondering how they got my email address..
You ever subscribed to BGM or been on their mailing list? I think this new venture shares at least an editor with BGM, so it may well be from the same publishing house and use the same mailing list.
 13.
Find some OM. May not be quite what you're after but it's just bass, drums and vocals.
Good call. Probably a little "stoner" for most... but I thrive on this stuff. And don't forget the gloriously noisy Big Business, who were a bass/drums two-piece for their first album:
 14.
Alan's a great bloke so you you should have fun...
Yep, a good hour in Alan's wood-store with the white-spirit fumes filling the air... you'll have a whale of a time.
 15.
There was an article in Future Music a few months ago where this was mentioned in the context of removing sub 20 Hz artifacts...
Before mixing, though? By all means, throw a 20Hz HPF on each track while mixing, but why bother re-rendering every track before the mix (and risk degrading the audio if your render settings aren't correct)? One simple filter per track isn't exactly going to kill the CPU.
 16.
That's really nice. I can imagine it being the basis for a Sigur Ros type piece. Be interesting to see where this ends up.
Cheers. It originally had a drum-machine-type loop knocking away in the background, but I muted it to do the comping of the takes... and when I unmuted it, it really grated. So I left it off again. I have a few ideas for development, but I'll see what happens vocal-wise first. It might need nothing else.
 17. I've posted this elsewhere, and nobody's hated it yet, so I thought I'd bring it over here too. It's a fairly rough recording of a work-in-progress, and not the usual bass fare: http://soundcloud.com/bottomendian/aurora-solo-bass It's definitely an accompaniment rather than a solo piece per se, and that particular arrangement is geared towards a vocal over the top (it's gone off to a singer/songwriter friend to see what she can come up with), so there's a long intro and some interlude-gaps between the "chorus" and "verse" sections. It's played on my ACG Graft Recurve fretted 4-string, with the John East 2-band pre completely flat (IIRC). Strings are the D'Addario piccolo set (20-52). That recording's mainly one full take, with some short bits from the previous take, and a few odds and ends comped from other takes (did six in total; the first two were just awful and the last two were the ones that came close enough to make the cut). If anyone's interested in the processing and effects... I can't remember. But I can take a look if anyone cares. (Definitely some EQ and multiband compression going on.) (And yes, it's rough and rattly on the bottom string. Haven't set up the Graft properly for the piccolo set, y'see. ) All feedback and opinions gratefully received.
 18.
"Dry hump the sh*t outta ya bass" Damm thats where I have been going wrong. I know what Im doing next gig.
Oh, Dave. The mental image. Mind-bleach, please.
 19.
There isn't an emoticon for a *happy bunny*...
Ahem... Looking good, Scoop. Has Alan been employing austerity measures though? You've only got 2 bolts holding the neck on.
 20.
It's the only limitation I was able to put on the area; I wasn't able to put some sort of limit on the number of posts that affiliates could make (to stop some people taking the piss) and as it turns out it's worked well as it is. The new version of the site which I have recently been previewing will have the ability to 'subscribe' to threads so it'll be far easier to manage, they appear like facebook notifications rather than emails. I would like to keep the affiliates area but I can't justify making is wholly visible in the 'new posts' area for free as it would undermine our paying sponsors who we really need at the moment whilst we're upgrading. Initially I hoped was that the affiliates forum would lead to donations from the companies but this hasn't worked, hence the change. Hope that makes sense...
Ta for the explanation! When's the new version of the site expected to hit our screens?
 21.
Anyway, when I realised i'd made a mess of it I also realised i'd written over the original file
Story of my life.
 22.

You been busy with the grey paint, or just the saturation control?
 23.
It's been like that for a while now, certainly a long time before I locked and re-opened it.
Oh, OK. So it's intentional? If so, can I ask why? I like being able to keep up with build threads, new designs and all that stuff, but I don't necessarily want to subscribe to all the threads and have my inbox overflowing with notifications. I'm addicted enough as it is.
 24.
Low B or high C? What's the norm? The most pupular? What do you prefer? Why?
One of each.
