Ghost are probably my favourite metal band since Metallica.  Absolutely fantastic

    Ghost are interesting.

Metalheads can be rather fickle sometimes. Desperate for something new to come along after years of metalcore/screamo and when it does i.e. classic metal riffs and powerful clean vocals albeit with pop style hooks and lyrics about devil worship, they don't like it!

I saw them in Portland, OR in 2019 - absolutely fantastic live show.

"In more extreme forms of the genre though, the lyrics can get downright disgusting. Whether it be about cannibalism, rape, self-mutilation, or sexual deviancy – for better or for worse (mostly the latter), heavy metal has had some of the most deplorable and abhorrent messages scattered across its twisted backbone over the years."

I'm afraid to say there is some truth in the above quote.

I really don't want to listen to such stuff.

I think some Zappa is probably the heaviest music I would listen to nowadays. I like his tongue in cheek attitude.

My current delve through the history of C&W has lead me in the opposite direction to seek out 'nice' music. Nice to listen to, nice to play, nice to sing along to.

That and back to practicing with my Jazz quartet, which of course is nice.

This was pretty popular on mainstream radio last year:

Starting this thread as a dedicated thread for the topic raised in the "three piece' thread.

So you're in a 3 piece, and when the guitarist switches from rhythm to lead you feel that the song goes 'empty'.

    What can you do?

Opinions welcome from "Embrace the Space" comments to tech tips etc.

Played in three pieces / one guitarist bands for years, pretty much my whole playing career.

    I would recommend...

Guitarist has humbuckers or minimum P90s. Single coils just don't cut it for three pieces.

Bass player has some sort of light/medium OD gain for solos to 'fill' it out. Also, lock in tight with the drums and keep the rhythm steady.

I think short scale and lightweight gear, though not my taste are going to continue to be popular, particularly given the "white men of a certain age" demographic of Basschat
