  1. @hooky_lowdown Relationship of Command got some serious rotation in my house when it was released. What a sound. What a nutty album.
  2. Exactly. I lived in Birmingham which was great because just used to hop in the car with a bunch of pals and zip up to Nottingham or down to London for gigs dead easy. Often would see a band twice on the same tour. Gone are the days of rocking up in Camden and parking for free on the high street for a gig at the Underworld ..
  3. I used to use Songsterr but I swear it was making my laptop all buggy so I quit using it and went the YT route instead, I used to use Samboat Music when I first started. Now I use Guitar Pro.
  4. I have only cracked Enter Sandman successfully (have only been playing for a year really). I have had a shot at some other tabs but haven't followed through with it. I just checked my bookmarks and Creeping Death is the most recent half-assed effort I've made 😁
  5. Wow, you were right at the front! Someone was watching over you that day.
  6. How did he manage to film that? There used to be strict rules about video recordings at gigs and recording equipment back then was super chunky!
  7. From what I understand of the recent Download pilot festival (last weekend), the overall demographic was rather mature. Apparently, there was a leisurely walk round in a circle down the front of the stage during one band set, by those fondly remembering their days of circle pits whilst acknowledging that time had undoubtedly moved on 🤣
  8. My first Donington was 1991, I had just turned 18. What a memorable day that was. Check out this website, there are lots and lots of contributions from fans who were there that day in '88. Take some time to read them all. It makes for chilling reading though and all these years later, still raises goosebumps. I heard a bootleg recording after the event and you can hear the desperation in Axel's voice as he's screaming at the crowd to move back. http://www.ukrockfestivals.com/donington-1988-vftmud.html
  9. Lol it was probably the same fella. It just goes to show, tools everywhere. Even at metal shows where the tool:normal ratio is exceptionally low. I was at a Pantera gig once and somebody’s hands pushed me from behind, really really hard across the floor towards the pit. I was just standing watching the band, quite near the back. Because I wasn’t expecting it, I got a little bit of whiplash in my neck, it happened so fast and it really moved me a long way across the floor. Like, why would anybody do that? As a rule, I don't mind getting hurt at gigs, as far as I'm concerned, it means you're having a good time. But that was just knob behaviour.
  10. Thanks for posting, just took a screenshot for practising.
  11. How are you getting on with that? I found Enter Sandman manageable to learn compared to other Metallica tracks.
  12. I was at an Anthrax gig some years ago. They hadn’t toured for a while and everybody was really amped up to see them again. There was a big pit for the duration of the set, it didn’t stop the entire time. I was right behind the row of those standing on the edge of the pit, which of course is like the wall you bounce off when you come flying out and go back in again. Some big guy was standing in front of me with a girl, looked like they were on a date. Every time someone came hurtling out of the pit and made contact with them, he got really agitated and began getting aggressive with people allegedly “bumping into his girlfriend”. What an idiot, what do you expect if that’s where you going to stand? If you don't want to get bumped then you move back and blend into the crowd a little. One unlucky guy ended up flying into him twice and the second time it happened, the guy grabbed him and threatened to punch his lights out if he crashed into him again. Like, how do you have any control over where the pit takes you. There was no point trying to intervene, there was no way to communicate with the sound so loud. The gig finally ended when some mosher came sliding across the floor at speed and his boot made contact with the girls ankle. I watched it happen - she hesitated and then dropped to the ground in a heap sobbing like she had suffered a footballing injury. Fair to say that pair had an awful night out, whilst the other 1000 people at the show had a cracking time. Including me and my mate standing behind them, rolling our eyes.
  13. Want to know what I love about gigs? Not having to stand RIGHT NEXT to the sound desk to get the best possible sound experience every single gig we went to together because ex can't enjoy himself if sound isn't perfectly perfect. What I also love about gigs is not having to look at his frowny face for 90 minutes when he thinks the sound engineer isn't doing his job properly. Which we'd know about obviously, what with being RIGHT NEXT to the guy. And breathe ....
  14. Ah I'm with you now - from your original post, I inferred that it was a relatively recent association. If I'd known it was way back when, it would have been obvious. My bad.
  15. It's either CND or the IRA, I can't figure out which ... 😆
  16. Kreator were supposed to be headlining the Bloodstock festival this August (UK). Can't see that going ahead though.
  17. No way! Kreator have toured the UK loads, have seen them quite a few times here. My Megadeth picking is probably inconsistent too, I'm in it for the love not the talent 🤣 What Megadeth songs do you play? There is an Ellefson thread in Off Topic if you would like to join us in our mocking. Sorry, what I meant was solidarity for our fallen brother in metal.
  18. That being said, the highlights looked like everyone had a blast.
  19. I agree. Look at the success of NWOBHM in the 80's. Those guys were in the right place at the right time, nothing more nothing less. Okay, they eventually got to quit their jobs and hone their craft full time which generally improved their outputs. It's the very definition of gap in the market. Also, clever marketing happening now is holding on to that aged fan base - that's why there's metal cruises and metal craft beer all for the taking. It's the demographic. KISS even have their own golf clubs and skis in their merchandise now. Such a simple idea and it's hit the spot once again.
  20. Ha I've been learning The Trooper for MONTHS. Run to the Hills is another one I keep coming back to - fooled by how easy the tab seemed... Not as clever as I look, am I?! I can play Wasted Years though. Other than the KCC, I have nothing to compare it to. But the Jackson is lighter and the neck is more slender, which were two boxes I really needed to tick. The KCC is clunky in comparison and not as smooth in feel or tone. 24 frets also a plus for egotistical rockstar aspirations.
  21. That is a great tip, thank you. I play DC every day (no brainer). Note to note consistency is where the work is needed for sure. I have been doing it with my third finger being on the one. (321 121 321) Is that what you meant?
