Up for sale is a customised P-bass, built by mine own fair hands. It was my main bass, but has fallen out of use and it's too nice to just be a 2nd bass. Alder body, rosewood fretboard with maple neck. Pearloid inlays (not stickers). 3 ply white pearloid pickguard. All stained walnut with a satin nitro finish. Wilkinson pups (was going for a standard trad p-bass sound, which these do really well), brass wilkinson bridge under the cover. As you'll see, I've gone for a rough sort of look, scratches and different depth of stain, just something a bit more interesting than the 'reliced' look. The neck is a jazz profile, thin and very smooth/fast playing. Holds a good low action and stays in tune well. Currently strung with rotosound flatwounds. Add a high level set of pickups, and you've got a brilliant bass. Really enjoyable to play. Obviously have spent a bit of time on this, so not looking to sell unless I get a good price. Based in Herts/London.

Bought a P bass wiring kit off John. Gave me helpful advice about the tone I was looking for and which parts to use. Arrived quickly and was by far the easiest repair/modding I have ever had to do - had old wiring out, new wiring in and playing again in 10 minutes. Wouldn't go anywhere else for any wiring I need in the future.

Go for a Tokai hardpuncher. Will absolutely blow you away and much better than an MIM, possibly better than a standard american, IMHO. Ash bodies though so consider what kind of weight you'd be happy with. Although generally speaking Vintage guitars are very good, I don't really like their P basses. I don't think they feel right. You'd be far better going for a Squier classic vibe - very good basses.

Fender Jazz and Rickenbacker have one night stand...

I really liked the RV4 and think rickenbacker are ridiculous not to have a budget brand, but this is definitely a marmite bass. Falls under the "just because you can doesn't mean you should" category. -

It's fair to say that it was a dreadful performance, but then can anyone remember blur ever being that good live anyway? Albarn's voice was always dreadful live and although generally speaking they may have been tighter in the past, they were always more of a recording band than a live band.

Dear London gigging bassists I'm looking at buying amps/combos and will most likely be gigging in and around London. Obviously, I don't want to be dragging around a massive stack to gigs on the tube, so I wondered what you guys did? I was thinking of getting a 1x10/2x10 100-200watt combo for stage sound, then just go into the PA. What do you use? Thanks

Hi bit of a feeler here to see if there's any interest. Danelectro DC59 guitar for sale in black, a la Jimmy Page. It's the standard version, the only difference being that it just has two standard control knobs, one vol, one tone. I'll get pics up soon. £150 posted. Located in London for collection.

One suggestion... Change your hand position, bring it so it's over the last few frets of the neck. The string tension is lower and you'll get the sound of more attack by the strings hitting the frets - a la John Entwistle.

Best Live album by favourite Band or Bassist?
TPTroll replied to Bo0tsy's topic in General Discussion
The Who - Live At Leeds. I love Entwistle's tone on that album.
That is the correct answer. 10 points to you. -
How about something like this? I Know nothing about it apart from of course it's a Mosrite copy. http://www.tonezonem...%27%20Bass/2082 EDIT: Not an endorsement of that site/shop....that was just the first result of a quick google.
Hi Thanks, ive seen those (and the Eastwood ones that look very similar with the P-90s) and although they do look great and certainly on the list, I'm trying to see what other pickup sounds I can get as have the jazz set up covered. Thanks though, good suggestion.

I have the usual suspects for day-to-day playing, but I'm looking for something a bit different, without breaking the bank. I've been trying to find a Danelectro DC or Hodad bass as I've always drooled over them, but to no avail. I want something that's relatively cheap (sub £200/£250 second hand) that has a distinctive look and sound, something that you don't really upgrade from. I've also I've also been looking at Burns Marquee basses and Italia basses. I love the retro look and would be grateful for any tips or comments on anything of this ilk. Any positive or negative experiences with any of these basses? Thanks
