I have somewhat unwillingly decided to sell this head. I have arthritis which is not getting any better and much as I DO love this head - and I really do - it's just getting too much for me to move. You all know what this head does, full specs are here - http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/Bas.../bass_400_.html This one comes in a 6U Shockmount Flightcase, and if the price is right I'll throw in a Behringer Tuner which has fancy downlights to make the head look pretty. It is in very good condition, and comes with an almost full set of valves ( except the one that failed ) and was revalved within the last 18 months or so. Priced to go at £950 ovno Stewart

Whats the most reliable (heavy duty) bass amp
bassbluestew replied to Timface's topic in Amps and Cabs
You could make me an offer for my Mesa/Boogie 400 + .....................all valve lovliness wrapped in a 6U shockmount flightcase to keep it...nice. It's got volume in spades..............and I happen to be shifting an Ashdown ABM810 cab too.......this has got to be right up your street boyo !! You might even get it at a good price if your quick before I advertise it. Stewart -
Anyone here have or used to have an Ampeg 810?
bassbluestew replied to G-bitch's topic in Amps and Cabs
Just a quickie.......have sent you a PM, but in case you don't see it you can steal my old Ashdown ABM810 for £300, then if you decide you like the sealed 810 cabs, sell it to someone else for £300 and buy a new Ampeg. Jobs a good 'un, who do I send the cab too Stewart -

My older ABM810 has eight Celestions in it..................they're the original speakers. I'm told - although I'm biased I suppose - they're better than the Bluelines. S

I know less than hee haw about Mark Bass gear............................. I do however know 'kin good bass playing when I hear it.............inspirational stuff young Nate.....the KT Tunstall of the bass world !!! S
-
I KNOW I don't need to say this, but for my own piece of mind here goes.............. Make sure when you are soldering, that all speakers are protected incase the tiniest bit of hot solder falls off the joint ( espicially if you are soldering the top of the two speakers ) I KNOW you'll do this but I'd be gutted for you if you accidentally damaged a speaker at this stage. Sorry, S

Anyone run an ashdown head through an ampeg cab?
bassbluestew replied to ashevans09's topic in Amps and Cabs
The reh studio I use has an ABM300 (??) thru a Classic810.......sounds nice. Much better than I thought it would. S -
Before you go taking the feet off, why not try it again.........if it still sounds p*sh,, flip the cab in its side ( i.e. the side with no rubber feet thus re-coupling it with the stage ) and see how that sounds. If it STILL sounds p*sh, it ain't the rubber feet. I have rubber feet on my ABM810 and big the biggest casters I've ever seen on my Basson B210B and neither seems fo affect the sound adversely. BTW I used the small (???) Basson cab at a gig last night in a tiny venue, where we had our full brass section and a tiny pa ( we normally use this pa for foldback/sidefill). Nine of us in a wee space and it sounded killer. The Basson cab rocked like a rocking thing. S
lol.. Dave, I think the only thing wrong with my rig is what's commonly known as the 'human condition' !!!!! lol Why cant we just be happy with our tone? Always having to fudge with it all the time!
Thank the good lord it's not only me........I really, really love my Mesa Boogie 400+ and Ashdown 810 and the band has a huge van and lots of folk who really don't mind helping me move it, so why oh why am I looking at other rigs - and seriously !! My good lady is even more perplexed than I am..................now when I say "This is THE rig" she just either laughs and / or shakes her head. This is the good lady who spent a long afternoon with me ( and at that point two small kids ) in Overwater trying and buying EA gear, saying all the right thingas and not flinching as I wrote out a HUGE cheque ! What a girl. !!! S

Found this place whilst doodling about. Reviews, lessons and stuff. I thought the article on the Trace Elliot stand at the NAMM Show this year was particulary enlightening. Frogive me if you've seen it all before.......... http://bassplayer.tv/ Stewart

Dave, I had gone away after my last posting here feeling really sorry for you and how you have been f@cked over by both musical box and wood&tronics. No other posting on this ( or the old website ) has affected me as much as this. You have spent top dollar on this cab, you COULD have bought any other manufacturer in the worlds equivalent cab for this type of dosh, but showing great faith you choose Epiphani and to make matters worse, you had to import it from Italy. Having taken all this into account, Epiphani should be now be jumping through HOOPS to make sure you are not just happy, but DELIGHTED with your new cab. I almost get the sense that the sheen has been taken off this new gear and that'll you'll be happy almost to make do with a cab that works(I hope I'm way wrong). That's simply not good enough when paying this type of money for a single cab. You should be getting service above and beyond the call of duty here.........I'd really be getting a bit fed up by this stage. It's got to the stage now where Epiphani HAVE to step in directly to support their product, and more importantly their brand new customer. I'd give a detailed account of what's happened to Epiphani and I'd expect them to make it up to you - and I'd also tell them so. It's simply just not good enough !!! We're all behind - or beside you - Dave, Stewart

Dave, Sorry mate but this is getting sooooooo complicated I'd be sending the whole lot back, and demanding - yes the time has come for demanding - a completely new cab ( with matching drivers ) and a full refund of all your out of pocket expenses to date PLUS some compensation for being mucked about by an apparently top end shop and manufacturer. A pair of cabinet covers maybe ?? All this to be done on the understanding that if the new cabinet is not absolutely perfect it will be shipped back at their expense for a full and immediate refund. If they are sticky you should perhaps point them in the direction of this thread to see how both their reputations in the UK bass playing community are hanging by a thread. It will certainly make people think twice before going down the route you have, however a successful and happy outcome would go a long way to restore confidence in them fully I'm sure. You asked if there was some sort of law ?? Contact your local Cunsumer Advice centre, goods sold have to be "fit for purpose" and this cab obviously isn't. I'm sure European Law will apply but basic consumer rights will remain unaffected I'm sure. You have been MORE than reasonable in a completely unacceptable situation - time to get tough I think. Good luck man, Stewart

I use an 810 and gig twice a week..............we have a van but before that it went into the back of my car. There are heavier cabs.......they're just big is all, and even then they're not THAT big. ANd they're aon wheels so once it's on the level its a one man job. S
-
Didn't the very old trace's have go faster red stripes ?? I seem to remember mine did. S
-
Dave, I feel for you bro'. Keep a note of ALL your out of pocket expenses and present it to Wood&tronics when you are happy all is well. There is no way you should be out of pocket in any way, shape, or form, regardless of wether you are buying from overseas or not. If you buy something new on t'bay and it's faulty you don't have pay to return it. This company should be bending over backwards right now to help you out. I'm gassing for a new rig ( although I love mine - Maslows hierarchy of needs I think !!! ) and am looking at MAYBE getting one from Germany. No way I'd be paying anything to send it back if it was goosed. An £800 cab should come hand delivered in a velvet sack. S
-
B&Q do velcro strips, you know both sides, so you attach one to the cab, and the diametrically opposed opposite (compositionally speaking of course) on the amp. That way you won't ruin the carpet covering on the cab. I use it for holding various bit and bobs inside my rack and they don't move about at all. Comes in various lengths and widths, get at least inch and a half wide, more if you can. Stewart

+1 on the TI Jazz Flats.............luvverly, luvverly strings - but a tad expensive. Buit as I always says, you gets what you pays for. AFAIK Jamerson was a La Bella man on his P bass. And for that reason, and ONLY that reason I'm going to buy some when the TI's get tired. Soppy old git that I am. What does Babbit use ?? S

Trust a fellow Weegie to pull me up on my German ...... S
Well good they may be but at that weight you do not want to lift their 8x10 version! and of course we have now left the realms of Behringer pricing way behind. Which for some is an unfortunate reality. Nice if you have readies and roadies
Are the Behringer cabs much less than £300 ? I'd be surprised if you can get anything of any quality for that price. And the Basson cabs are great quality AND less than £300. If a Behringer cab was £200, I'd save a few weeks more and go for the extra 50 -75 quid. I think my 210 was £250, but that wasa while back. And I wouldn't suggest the Basson 810, though I'm sure it'll be amazing if the 210 is anything to go by. Myself, I have an old Ashdown ABM810, trouser flappingly good, but the Basson 210 has more bottom end. At the end of the day you gets what you pays for, but with Basson, you get a good bit more than you pay for. S p.s. No, I don't work for them.

You want a killer cab sub £300, search out Basson, I have one otheir B210B cabs, which I use with my MesaBoogie 400+ and it is killer ( ain't it Ped ). I just couldn't believe how cheap these cabs are at the mo' , I think they are jsut trying to break the UK market so grab a bargain. It's easily the loudest 2x10 cab I have EVER hear. It's also the heaviest. The magnets in each of the speakers weigh in at a massive 200oz's specs are - 2x10" BS1075 Driver Horn with OFF/ON switch 500 watts rms 101dB / max 125dB 4 ohms 28Hz - 20 kHz Frequency Response: 12 dB - LP 18 dB - HP Crossover Point for the horn is at 3.5K 24 1/4" x 18 1/4" x 33 1/4" 110 lbs Website is www.bassonsound.com Stunning S

Thanks All, I WAS hoping you'd all be telling me it was CRAP and I'd be better off leaving well alone. Bloody Gas, I do like my Mesa Boogie, but I did like this Glockenklang ( I think it translates as something like Long Bell ?? ) sound too. Size and weight aren't really an issue ( my 400+ is in a 6U shockmount case, hardly light, and I use an Ashdown ABM810 too ) as we move all our gear in a van and also I have a large 4x4 so space is plentiful. Mmmmmmmm I'm away for a think ! S
The Soul head is 2U and the Heart Rock is 3U. If it was 4U, what you probably saw was a Bass Art:
Now thats what I thought having looked at their website................but this thing looked to have vents, could have ben the soul head and a vented rack cover I suppose, but it looked all in one. Have you had the new upgrade done to your head apparently it's to match your head up to the new "6 box" producing 1000 watts at 2.7 ohms, yes you did read that right, two point seven ohms !! I take it reliability ain't an issue, I gig at least twice a week so it has to be robust. Have you heard any reports of the new 6x10 ?? Where did you get yours ?? I suppose Thomann would have it, but I'd like to try it before spending north of £2k on a new rig !!! Any idea what the resale values are.............might have a look on t'bay. Ain't gas a bitch !! Thanks for the help so far, Stewart
