1. It's a Guitarbuild body IIRC, has a few coats of Danish Oil. Feels rather old despite being quite new.
 2. If you do sell my '78 Fretless P/J is in the classified section, I'd love to offer a trade but I have far too many fretless basses! Good luck Chris
 3. PS I can of course provide pickguard screws and drill some holes, just never used this bass with a pickguard, hence the lack of either!
 4. I won't go on about this bass to much, suffice to say that it is exceptional, cost me a lot to build (neck mainly, which was a custom order from Warmoth and cost pretty much what I'm asking for the whole bass), and that if you're not happy with it, I'll happily take it back and refund you. This is the fretless I was playing routinely until my Wal landed, and I decided to part it out and keep the neck. However, I have a few other things listed which didn't sell so it seems wisest to rebuild and take a hit on this and keep some of the other stuff. I'd always wanted a blocked/lined fretless neck, partly for the aesthetics and partly because the blocks really do help if you're moving around the neck a lot. It's a top-grade neck and I can provide receipts with the bass ($610 plus courier plus import duty). So Warmoth AAA birds-eye maple neck with ebony board, lined with pearl blocks Schaller tuners DI Marzio Super Jazz PUPs Kiogon circuit with push/pull series/paralell Fender vintage RI bridge So, pics. Not super high quality I'm afraid but you get the idea. 5. Don't refin it Karl, there's something quite magical about it as is
 6.
What's with the two channels and the two bias?
They replicate the circuits of the '64 and '66 models respectively Sean, '66 is much nicer to my ear, slightly fuller and rounder. Others prefer the '64.
 7.
I do like the originals, but having played one of these last year, I fell in love, craved one ever since, incredible things, and almost identical, uber cool looks plus all the reliability of a modern piece, stunning, all you'll ever need.
Yep, that's why I bought it Rick. I've owned amps and cabs that made a quantitative difference to tone - PJB to my ear is quantitatively better than Markbass for example - but the B-15 is qualitatively different, it's in a completely different league to anything else I've ever owned or played through (possible exception being other B-15s of course). Nothing I've owned has flattered an instrument the way this does, and that's not just electric basses, DB sounds incredible as well, it seems to add some real magic to the tone, almost like I'm, playing a £100k instrument as opposed to a £1k one! I'm pretty sure that when I next record DB I'll be doing so through this with a mic on the cab as opposed to on the instrument (unless someone buys it of course!).
 8. That looks familiar If it's the one I think it is, it is absolutely lovely to play and hear, and a pure stunner to look at. A classic vintage Fender. Good luck with the sale.
 9.
I've got one of these original '64 cabs complete with dolly (minus original speaker) in the back of my garage. I've been on the look out for an amp to go with it for about 25 years The guy I got it from threw the amp out as he thought it was too old technology!
Damn, that's a shocker! Let me know if you fancied selling the cab Keith, I quite like the idea of the new and (theoretically) reliable head in one of the old boxes, and '64 is something of a landmark year for me anyway
 10.
Can you please stop bumping this, I don't need reminding that it's still available!!
Ha ha, bit too recently manufactured for you I'd say Rick
 11.
I wish I have that problem to deal with, my valve amp is too small to produce that much boom in band situation. My LB30 cuts thru the band onstage when driving abit hard but sounded like lemmy when solo which I don't quite like lol.
But if you don't solo it doesn't matter (you might need more power/control if you do). Lemmy's bass is a great example of what I was on about above, awful solo, good in the mix
 12.
I don't think this is anything to do with valve sound either. The amps are just eq'd differently. this is really just another variation on the 'it sounds great at home' theme we've had on here several times. Deep bass is difficult to control, depends upon room acoustics and a bass sound that is great with the rest of the band sounds horrible when soloed.
Yep, end of story, there's a reason 'that' Ampeg tone has been such a mainstay, it works in the situation that most bass players need it to work, in the band setting on stage or in the studio. As Phil said, the old 'why do my band hate my lovely bassy tubey tone?' thing has been done to death, it's because like all instruments, what works solo and in ensemble situations are completely different. See if you can get hold of isolated bass tracks from some of the recordings on which you like the bass tone, you might be surprised just how crap it sounds without the band around it. It's the same with orchestral music also, when I used to do such a thing it always amazed me how, when the conductor called for a section to play a section in isolation, just how different it sounded without the rest of the orchestra, even with 'lead' instruments such as flutes and violins, but especially with double bass and tubas Bands are collaborative units, if your drummer is throwing things at you, you may need to have a serious think about the tone you're after.
 13.
That would be a shame, the fretless version is comparatively rare.
Take your point mate, but it's really down to what makes it work for the owner I guess. I'd keep it fretless for sure. Perhaps rather than suggest he fret it I should have suggested he spends a bit of time learning to play it - there's nothing you can do on a fretted that you can't do on a fretless after all
 14.
Oh,how I would love this! I own the fretted version, same colour, slightly younger though, a 1984. Best bass I've had, a keeper for life! Alas, the funds are non-existent for this beauty. GLWTS though ;-)

Thanks for the kind words! I would definitely be keeping a hold of this if it were fretted, unfortunately I can't justify keeping such a wonderful instrument when my intonation is so... questionable.
Actually, you could always keep it and have it fretted? Extra £100 and you may have a lifetime keeper as per Bobby's post?
 15. It probably says a lot to say this at a time when I'm also selling a fretless bass (at twice the price), but this bass is probably one of the best fretless basses to come up for sale on here for quite a while, in fact I really can't quite understand why it's still here. I currently have five fretless basses (I know), and need to offload at least two of them, but I am SO tempted by this
 16. Gentle 'don't really want to sell but will if I have to' bump
 17. Gonna withdraw these parts while I have a think about some new projects, keep yours eyes open for a rather special fretless Jazz soon
 18. Just took a few minutes off to browse the bay and thought I'd noticed something of a trend. 30 seconds of rigorous scrutiny and data analysis indicated that over 500 of a total of just under 1000 items listed by Gear4Music are damaged. What the hell do they get up to there? Do they recruit very clumsy people, is the warehouse on a geothermal fault-line, or is there something more sinister going on?
 19.
If you can't lift it it doesn't matter how good it sounds. Don't torment yourself.
There is wisdom there, it takes a second to injure your back and a lifetime to live with that injury. Whilst I'm a huge Ampeg fan (I've a B-15 and V4-B, neither at SVT power or weight), aTech 21 VT Bass though a lightweight rig will get you close enough for most audiences.
 20.
and then some wonderful fingerstyle from Bob Babbit:
I always assumed that was Jamerson. Either way it is one of those lines that gets better each time I listen to it, and each time I try to play it I realise just how subtle and nuanced it is
 21.
So, are you selling the bodies separately again now? Or still only fully loaded? Sorry I'm confused!
No need to be confused As its says above, I'd prefer to sell them as loaded bodies. I'll happily split however for the prices indicated. Cheers Chris
 22. Hello Ziggybass, photos are at http://basschat.co.uk/topic/269366-four-fender-alikes-closed/page__fromsearch__1, I'll try to add some details re other gear later today Cheers Chris

For example, I'll do the Greco, J-Retro, Badass, Di Marzios and either vintage white or tort pickguard for £400 posted (and throw in Fender neckplate/screws). That combination would make a VERY nice Jazz Bass!
