1. Trade wise looking for a high quality acoustic bass or will PX towards a DB. As both are unlikely I'd prefer a straight sale. C
 2. In response to a couple of Qs, weight is a tad under 10lbs and side dots are at the frets (so to speak) and not between them. It's a very easy neck intonation wise, in fact I find it almost as easy as my lined neck in that respect. C
 3.
Despatch? POB. Going to Kilburn. Is Vic there?
I've got that Michael Caine in the back Of course it was all different before Boris and all these bloody bikes and blokes with tight trousers and stupid beards, poofters the lot of 'em
 4. Will close this now and start a new thread for what's left Cheers Chris
 5. I've had this listed in a thread with loads of other gear for a while and it seemed best given that a few folks I was at the weekend hadn't seen it, to give it slightly more prominence! This is for sale for one reason and one reasons only, it's just been replaced by an '83 Wal Mk1 FL (see http://basschat.co.u...ss-mk1-on-ebay/). I'd love to keep them both but you know how things are......... Body: Original 1978 Fender with J-PUP rout Neck: Original 1978 with gorgeous ebony board, again by Shuker. Back of the neck looks a bit scrappy but it's been very well done and it feels beautifully played in. Tuners: Original 70’s Fender PUPs: Nordstrand NPJ4 P/J set bought from Bass Direct for £175 here http://www.bassdirec...on_pickups.html. Circuit/preamp: No idea, doubt it's original Bridge: Early 80’s Fender high mass (I can offer this with a Badass or a Fender Vintage RI also) This bass is sublime and takes what is an extremely low action for a wooden neck, in short the board has been beautifully done. The PUPs, which replaced some active EMGs that had been installed, are extremely well balanced for a P/J set and compliment this lovely old bass perfectly. Note: The photo at the top is the original from Bass Direct when it was sporting the EMGs, pics below which are less good quality are sporting the new PUPs
 6.
I'm not wearing a wignal for anybody. If I go bald, then I go bald and that's that.
You say that now....
 7.
... But surely, tone alone is not the sole criteria, at least for most folks..? Budget, portability, ability to sound good in various venues, connectivity... It should sound as good as the player wants, I'd agree, but that's not the end of it. A great sounding amp/cab that requires a low loader and a crane are not going to sell very well, I'd say. Similarly if it needs a mortgage agreement for financing. Compromise is the name of the game for many.
I'm neither disagreeing with the above or passing judgement n any way, just pointing out that in the grand scheme of things, when buying gear, questions about tone are not always top of the list.
 8.
I've just gone wireless, how does that stack up? Amps and cabs do effect your tone, but if you're going through a PA it can't make that much difference can it? as for the bass not making much difference, the old computer analogy springs to mind "rubbish in, rubbish out"
I'd have thought that the range of variables that can affect a wignal (or wireless signal, that was originally a typo but I like it so will stick with it) is far greater than that that can affect a cable? And PA is of course amps, cabs and cables, so the same quality criteria apply. I totally agree with the OP re amps and speakers however, people often choose these on the basis of criteria other than tone, e.g., total power or size etc.
 9.
Always wanted one of these Chris, but sadly I couldn't lift one now.
Trust me Keith, it's a lot lighter than my old Phil Jones rig, and actually quite a lot smaller Hope all's well mate C
 10.
A good cable will have no effect, but a bad one will, and not in a positive way.
Yep, end of story

 12. Bump for two lovely loaded Jazz Bass bodies (the Greco is now sporting a Badass III, the Guitarbuild a vintage Fender), but I'd be happy to swap these over if needs be. I'll eBay these at the end of the day so will be happy to haggle a little between now and then! Cheers Chris
 13.
I wish I could go back in time and stop myself watching that!!
+1 Is that guy at the wrong gig........?
 14.
When you say everything, I assume that doesn't include your original Wal
Ha ha, no, that really was the point, one with frets, one without. I don;t play retted often but once I got used to the Wal circuit (took a while), I found all other fretted basses a little lacking in tonal options. As it also took me a while to get used to the way the Wal balances and plays, and as my original fretless Wal was once fretted, the obvious choice seemed to be to get the original re-fretted and buy a new fretless. I knew exactly what I was looking for and up it popped in Seattle! Now selling my other six basses (did I ever need six), to pay for it and my B-15 as an insurance for the possibility of needing a new DB, but very happy I've gone the path I have. Problem is that at present I have two Wal FLs, one with rounds and one with flats, and love both equally. Do you see where I'm going with this
 15.
Here's the 8-string: http://www.thomann.d...y_8_bubinga.htm If you ask them to fit an extra four strings, they knock £35 off the price: http://www.thomann.d...trans_black.htm Bass Guitar Magazine rates them: http://www.deanguita.../pages/rhap.htm The reviewer wasn't so concerned about separate saddles, though I'm not sure I follow his logic. 8lbs 8oz seems remarkably light ...
It's not you Jack, it's a bit boring and predictable. You'll buy it and hanker for the Yank
Destiny is a terrible thing but perhaps inescapable.
Exactly Dave, well put
 16.
I've had SO much helpful advice on that subject in the last week, Basschat at its finest. Love the idea of that Kramer I spotted on eBay, but splashing £1000 on a bass I've never played, to be played in a style I've never used, in a band that has no suspicion as to what's on the horizon ... maybe not. Watching eBay (UK) to see what surfaces, and I'll stroll down to Macaris a bit later and see what they have by way of Dean Rhapsody basses.
Where's your sense of adventure young man
 17.
Not mine, but I wish it was!!! Just up my street, especially as JJB was my inspiration for taking up bass (Cambridge Corn Exchange, 1977) Hmmmmmmm............
There you go Greg, done deal
 18.
You mad impetuous fool! Like it though.
Calculated risk to be honest Jack, you gonna do the same with that 8-string?
 19. As far as PayPal are concerned you did the right thing and sent to his registered address, it's his fault and his issue to resolve. Hold firm on this.
 20.
I'd forgotten how heavy a 1978 Fender Precision is....
You'll be needing one of those new fangled things WaterofTyne is playing these days then! Welcome back mate. C
 21. In fact make the claim now and see if the seller offers to pay for the work
 22. If you bought it on ebay, don't touch it, get it to a luthier and then, once in the know, claim either for the work, a new pre-amp or a return. If you do it yourself and it still doesn't work (for any of a number of reasons) the seller can claim you did the damage C
 23.
... so all in all it wasn't the greatest suggested purchase
I beg to differ Rob, many thanks for the heads up
Wow! You did it, nice one. Lovely looking bass. Congratulations
Thanks mate, it was a little anxiety inducing to the point that the moment I received the customs invoice I went straight to the depot, paid and collected there and then! Lovely lovely bass
 24.
When I tried all the P Bass in GuitardGuitard when I was choosing mine I played them all through this. it was amazing. Everything sounded brilliant. Should have heard the Nate Mendel through it. Amazing. My P American Special really suited it well. No way I will ever be able to afford anything like this.
What these things do to bass tone is quite special and hard to describe. What they do to electrics is quite well documented. I find it's with DB that it really excels; I've always found the E string on DBs particularly problematic to amplify, but through this it just sounds sublime, to the point that I actually change well-learned patterns to allow me to drop on to the E as often as possible. And if I get good news when my DB goes to DB hospital next week, this will be staying put One thing is for sure, if I owned a bass shop, I'd make every customer play their prospective basses through one of these!
 25. The BigHead is an very very very good piece of kit, completely changed how I practice on electric simply because all previous headphone units made me sound crap, this makes me sound rather good
