  1. I've been wondering why Yamaha built their factory for cheap acoustics in China and the one for cheap basses in Indonesia. Will it to be with the different kinds of wood needed and where good supplies of them are?
  2. Ditto this reggae version from 1973
  3. Side 1, Track 1 .... and the only song on the album never performed live .... 🙃
  4. I thought I was going to have to give away my Westone Thunder I-A guitar, I've been quite surprised to learn that it still has some value. Unplayed this century! 😄
  5. This wasn't what I was looking for, but is something I was very glad to find I had a bit of a moment listening to it
  6. Something I'm hoping exists: Blackbird in a full band RnB or soul style. I've found a live performance of it by Alicia Keys. I like the way she sings it, but the accompaniment is just herself on the piano.
  7. I got a delivery from UPS yesterday. The shop hadn't bothered to add anything to the manufacturers packaging, just stuck the label on it, and it arrived absolutely pristine. Related to this, I was wondering what cheap hard cases like this £50 one sold by gear4music are like - are they actually any better than lots of bubble wrap and cardboard? And would it make the parcel insurable? £50 hard case
  8. As someone who shelled out for the Beatles In Mono box set, I'm contractually obliged to point out that the original mix had zero stereo 😁 As for the stuff about the piano, we're very definitely listening with different ears and heads, so......
  9. The same pink paint on the same bench under the same lighting in the same month probably photographed with the same camera....
  10. It's a funny song, it gets under my skin, while I'm listening to it simply just existing suddenly seems tremendously exciting, and this cover really makes the most of that quality, and while its playing I feel totally revved up, heart and soul [/insanebabble]
  11. I'm listening on my phone, so clearly I've no idea what things really sound like - my head seems to fill in enough gaps to keep me happy - but here's another upload. The production strikes me as pretty typical of its time, but that's not an especially well informed opinion.
  12. I'm really really hoping that the SB-1 due to arrive sometime this side of the Rapture will neatly render the TRBX superfluous and take over its stand, sending the TRBX off to a new home. Both 1½" nut, both light, both strung with Chromes....so there's a decent chance. But I'm not going to risk saying anything definite 🥴
  13. Another stand arrived today so I was able to take a shot showing the difference in size between the BB and the TRBX. I should have thought of doing this when there was some natural light, but never mind.
  14. Cant bring myself to listen to it again, but I think I recall Siouxsie Sioux having to resort to yelping a long way short of Helter Skelters top note?
  15. Or, even better, a BB424.... 😬 Here's the two of them together
  16. My TRBX has a laminated neck, four bolt join and a regular bridge. My BB424 has the same laminated neck and four bolt join plus the 45° through body stringing. The difference in how the strings sound unplugged is massive, the BB feels alive in comparison. The other factors: the TRBX body is smaller, which the neck doesnt go as far into; the BB is 2mm wider and 3mm thicker. Which is the most important factor?
  17. Some extremely rough, rounded up all the way figures. The new Snowy White Special 4 H is on sale in the US for $2,500. Add on $400 for a fast courier: $2900 Convert to GBP: £2115 Add 3% for currency exchange: £2180 Add 2% duty: £2225 Add 20% VAT: £2670 So the Andertons Customer Service experience is costing £300+ Taking the slower, USPS -> Royal Mail route would knock about £200 off that.
  18. While both the 424 pickups are usable, I'm finding that I leave the switch set to both pretty much the entire time, which I guess bears out your comment. They make two quite different sounds, but ones which blend together well.
  19. Some guy did a comparison video of the 424 1024 2024....all white
  20. I hadn't really realised that SBMM prices had reached these kinds of levels too. The price of my made-to-order USA G&L SB-1 is suddenly looking like a bargain. (Ok not a bargain, but less of a ridiculous indulgence 😬 )
