  1. After my G&L experiences, I'd half forgotten that when you order and pay for a bass, it usually arrives. Really pleased. After the wispy TRBX neck, the BB424 neck feels much more substantial: 2mm wider at the nut, 2.5mm thicker at 1st fret, 3.5mm thicker at 12th fret. The body feels much bigger, too, the cutaways having three fewer frets to reach. And the reward is in the tone - exactly what I wanted. BANG. (or do I mean CLANG?) The strings have red silks and are as rough as £¥€&, so I'm guessing these are Rotosound 66s? To sound like my idea of what a bass is the TRBX needed Chromes and its bridge pickup ignoring. This sounds right with rounds and both pickups on. The condition is excellent (except for the whiff of B&H Silver) and I'm very happy with the price I paid (only slightly more than half of what the TRBX cost)
  2. I can't decide if I want a Vahlbruch Quantum Compressor + a Neunaber Iconoclast Cab Sim, or just a smack across the back of my head
  3. I cannot resist an excuse for posting a clip of one of my most favourite songs Vow Wow - Siren Song - Live in London 1989 Genki Hitomi always seems as if he would be an absolute sweetie off-stage.
  4. I presume the TRBX headstock takes the SR as its model (the neck specs are an almost exact copy, too)
  5. As someone who's gone in exactly the opposite direction (used to play the guitar a lot, hit a ceiling, deep down had always wanted to play bass etc) I know exactly how happy you're feeling 😊 Like being on the open road after being stuck in traffic.
  6. But is it actually on it? I thought there were trademark problems? If so, lucky escape.....
  7. First of all its innards need the tender hand of a competent surgeon. iirc I attempted to bypass the active electronics at the very least. Probably the neck pickup too. I had no idea what I was doing, it's a miracle it still makes a good crunchy noise. The action is unbelievably low. I took it out of its box a few months ago, for the first time in half a lifetime, and was bored of it within half an hour. Once the world is a bit more open, I'll have a go at finding it a happy home, or at least someone who can get it vaguely as it should be and find it a happy home.
  8. I was about 16. You should see what I did to the active electronics 🤯 Many many many years later the neck is still in exactly place. I might have had a foolish streak a mile wide, but at least I instinctively recognised decent quality.
  9. To put that into the context of current Fender Jazzes, those specs are most similar to a 60s Road Worn, which is 21.1mm and 24.5mm
  10. Is it not just that the body beyond the bridge and the number of frets mess with the perspective?
  11. That's not how you spell how wonderful to see another Westone Thunder! Those strings are vintage, you know.
  12. You can get a 734a for only £80 more than that 🙃 To be fair, though, it is red.....
  13. It's got a third knob where I was expecting to see a switch
  14. Did the G&L JB-2 have a slimmed down body? Currently the American versions is discontinued, but the Indonesian Tribute version is still going. PMT advert
  15. Yamaha's specs pages for the 424/5, 1024/5 and 2024/5... BB 2 series ...and the 234/5, 434/5, 734/5 and P34/5: BB 3 series
  16. Don't think the G&L 3+2 has been shown yet, much nicer than the 4+1 on the JB5
  17. Does the USA one have a more narrow nut, or am I getting misled by the perspective? Whilst browsing through the YouTube results for demos to listen to, I came across this very entertaining 56 seconds Fender Zone duet
  18. 424 434 The 434 neck is 1mm thinner at 1st fret, and 2mm thinner at the 12th (21mm / 23mm vs 22mm / 25mm)
  19. I've a G&L SB-1 on its way, too. It's possible that between them the BB424 and the SB-1 will render my TRBX604 redundant and sellable. (But selling your first bass.... I still haven't sold my one and only guitar, and I haven't played that properly since I was 17)
  20. I should say that the price I paid was to a retail outlet, includes shipping and was via PayPal. The bass appears to be in very good condition. I've also budgeted for a set up and fresh strings, so I'm not really bothered about a few £££ on the price, especially as it was the only example on Reverb of the only bass I was wanting to buy. I'm going to put Pro Steels on this BB, which will complement the Chromes on my TRBX. Hopefully I'll have two very different sets of feel and noise.
  21. Someone has to be the idiot who drives up prices, why not me? 🤷‍♂️
