1. I have been looking at picking up a zoom r16 but the fact there are only two channel with phantom power could prove limiting in the long run. I was thinking of just using external pre amps if and when I want to use more mic's that need phantom power. I know this will add a bit of expense but im guessing it could also improve the quality of recording? The flip side I guess is that it is another gain stage in the recording chain so could just add noise and sound worse. The other option is to just go for the r24 which has more phantom power channels. If I do go the r16/more pre amps route is there any that people could recommend at a reasonable price? So far I have only ever recorded with a small interface and one mic so knowledge is a little lacking here! Cheers,
2. Just received an SM57 from Rick. Turned out to be a fault with the actual mic I paid for so Rick sent through a newer one instead. Very easy to deal with and recommended! Cheers Rick.
3. Not that he really needs anyone else to say it but I just bought a CV 50s P-Bass from Tom and it was all very easy and he is a great guy to deal with. Bass was well packaged and as described, communication was all great I couldn't really be happier. Thanks Tom!
4. I will give it a go and see what happens. The strings wont get used any how as said acoustic bass has long gone.
5. I had not even considered that. Looks like it could be a bit of meths on my old set!
6. Evening all, Anyone ever used Phosphor Bronze strings on regular electric bass as opposed to acoustic? Im stuck for a depping gig tomorrow night (String order didnt come through) set I have lying around that are not dead as a door nail are Phosphor Bronze. I dont see any issues with it at all and will probably do it but im just wondering if anyone has done it and noticed anything wierd/good? Cheers
7. What I found really helped me, and I think has been touched on above, was learning the triads that come from each note in a scale. That way you will know which chords in the sacle are major or minor and what basic notes you can use over them and how you can get to and from each chord. After you have a good grasp of this add in the 7th for each chord and you can really start making some interesting stuff happen. Then just add other scale factors as you progress. Learining the chords in a scale on guitar really helped me with this! I dont really see the scales as scales anymore but more as groups of chords that share the same notes. Not sure if that makes any sense at all but I cant think of another way to explain it!
8. Hmmm...... I dont think you can justify it unless, as others have said, you have serious money to burn. There is no way that an average bass player would sound better on a bass costing £5K than somone who is seriously talented on a £250 squire....just as I am pretty sure that Lewis Hamilton would beat in me a race if I were in an F1 car and he in a Fiesta. Therefore, I would not spend stupid ammounts of money on an F1 car.........nor on a bass.
9. Hmm, well with any luck adding a touch of Mid and rolling off a bit on the lows will make your sound cut through the mix a bit more. Might not work but worth a try at least. Ha, yeah good luck with the drummer thing....like trying to communicate with a primate in my experience. Another thuought....Hartke have a section in the Affiliates forum on here so if you still get troubles it migth be worth asking a question in there? Hope things work out ok!
10. You must be making some serious nosie with these to have it turned up that far and still be struggling to hear it! I have no idea how you have your amp set up but you might find that using the E.Q to dial in a few more mids to you sound and take out some lows, which take a lot of power to amplify and might not be projected well by the cabs, makes it easier for you to hear yourself. Like you say the acoustics there will be shocking too so that will not help one bit. Forgive me if that sounds patronising, i really dont mean it to. I just seems that strange that your set up is not enough at the moment. Of course it may just be that you are far more 'Rawk' than a few of us on here!
11.
The back of the amp states... 8 ohms = 240w 4 ohms = 350w There are 2 outputs which both have 8 ohms written next to them. It's just really thrown me...lol So would it be worth while upgrading to the 500W amp..just for a little bit more oomph??
It all depends on what you need really, but like uzzell said I would think you already have enough power on your hands for most applications. If you need any more than you have now you should probably start thinking about putting you bass through a P.A and using you rig as a monitor. What are you going to be using this set up for?
12. +1 to both the above. Until very recently I used one Hartke 4x10 8ohm cab with the Ha3500 and it was more than i ever needed so im sure you have enough power. Depends on what your doing of course but your rig will go very loud indeed. Cheers,
13. I looked into it a while ago as I'm building a BFM jack and decided in the end to go for two 1x10s rather than a 2x10. Two 1x10 cabs sound the same as one 2x10 but I think I will find two smaller cabs more useful. Not sure about the port sizes though!
14. I have just bought a couple of Eminence speakers from Tom. He answered any questions quickly and clearly and the whole deal went without a problem. Easy to deal with and a nice guy to boot.
15. At about 3.00 mins into "Let It Be" by The Beatles im pretty sure there is a pretty bad duff chord on the piano. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGSMMOIYm38 Also, an album by John Frusciante called "Will to death" is full of studio noises. Mainly him turning paper as it was written and recoded in a week or so and he had to have the lyrics written out. I know the chilis get stick, and rightly so, but a couple of his solo albums are worth checking out. Cheers,

18.
Probably wise. Damage limitation and all that.
19. I will look forward to seeing how the Jack turns out for you. I got the plans recently but just have not had time to start the build!
20.
Bonners are.. good. I live in Eastbourne, and wherever I see a price, I know that I can get it cheaper (mostly from gak.co.uk or in store). eg. I got my fender american 2008 standard jazz bass from gak.co.uk for £769 and they're doing them online for £959.00. Now I;m not sure what year that is, but they can't have got £200 better in the last year. I mean, I'd say shop around, and you'll be sure to (usually) find a better price. But for service they're excellent. And yes, why the hell is there a Brighton Uni campus here?!
Not sure really, I was doing Physiotherapy so im guessing it might have had something to do with the demographic profile! I was based mainly in Meads Village which it seemed was 100% populated by over 60's. Most of the courses were full of people I had nothing in common with though which was a little annoying........until i discovered how distracting student nurses can be.
21. Hi, Up for grabs is a Hartke 3500. I dont really know how old the amp is but i have had it for about 5 years and it has worked perfectly for the majority of those. The reason i say the majority is becuase there is an issue with this amp that i should make you aware off but it is an apparent cheap and easy fix. See here for details.......http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=41391 The amp is 350w at 4 ohms and 250w at 8 ohms, i have only ever used it with an 8 ohm cab and it has been more than i have ever needed although my band are not too loud. The flight case in the pictures will be included and seems to be a custom fit job from a company in Birmingham, unfortunaly their name has worn off the plack. I will also throw in a jack to jack speaker cable (Pretty thick, with neutrik connectors). The reason i am selling is that it was previsouly my back up and after picking up a Tecamp Puma 350 from Guitar Guitar recently it is just taking up space. Price......I find it frustrating when people say 'im not sure' but im really not due to the intermittent fault. How does £100 collected from Southampton sound? Even adding a few ££ for someone to take a look at the fault you still have a top amp with full flight case for a pretty good price. Would rather cash but could be open to trades. Nothing specific in mind so try me. If the price is too high considering condition I am open to offers but if not then i will keep hold of it and get it fixed then relist it. Cheers, Adam
22. My uni campus was in Eastbourne (not what I had hoped for up for when applying to Brighton uni!) and i had a few dealings with Bonners but obvisouly in store and not mail order. Like most music shops some of the staff are a bit suspect but on the whole they were decent people and the managers and such were helpful. Customer service was good and they were quick to sort out any troubles I ever had. I think you will be fine.
23. Alex should be along any time soon.... While were waiting check out -> http://www.barefacedbass.com/
