I have three 'tone' knobs on my active bass that cut or boost centred on different frequencies. I have tried fiddling with them. In the end they just stay centred. I do have the balance between the P and the J pickup slightly towards the P though.

I do and had the same at my opticians when they did my test. Even the optician said their test wasn't comprehensive but gave an indication whether there might be problems and whether further tests were necessary.

Inappropriate question? The mind boggles. What's up with people? All this communication and no one is actually communicating, leaving people to second guess and jump to the wrong conclusions. If you'd asked me (which you didn't ) I would have said I'd pass your details on in case he wants to sell. Job done. No feathers rustled. Weird.

I don't know how big the amp in the combo is physically. Would it fit in a rack? Then you just need a 1x10".

I've only ever had two people tell me the lines I was playing weren't as per the original. Neither of them were actually playing in gigging bands at the time...

It's fairly typical in that there's a repeating riff but parts of it are different every time. Rebel Rebel - David Bowie is similar. Each 4th bar is always ever so slightly different. I doubt even the original bass player could replicate it. It's not important as long as they're different otherwise the bass line stagnates. I normally have a song on repeat while doing something else. Usually commuting. Learn it in my head then it's only a matter of refining it when I pick up the bass. Sometimes an easy tune will be right on first play through with the bass and two more will confirm it.

There are many posters who will tell you straight away that when you go for an audition you're auditioning the band as well. Same goes for an interview. You've worked for some dreadful companies. If he is playing a rehearsed solo you'll know when it ends. The rest of the band will just comp until he gets there. All guitarists will have a 'tell' at he end of their solo which indicates that the crowd should bow down and worship them or otherwise appreciate their god like qualities and fantastic soloing ability. Just wait for it. It'll be obvious.

I'm confused. The only way this can happen is if you are playing 8 bars over the same chord. Otherwise you have to go back to the first bar as soon as he starts his solo. Unless he realises and comes in on the second bar and plays the changes with you. This is a situation where your theory comes into play. If you're playing the same chord you just have to watch him for his cue to say he's finished. He'll give the cue subconsciously even if you haven't agreed one. Or am I misunderstanding?
