WHUFC BASS

I remember years ago, me and a drummer were trying to get a trio going for pub gigs and such and decided to interview some guitarist / singers. We decided to do this in my front room rather than splashing out on a rehearsal studio (we were skint at the time, having just left school). Anyway, this fella turns up, nice enough bloke with his missus in tow. Me and him are discussing the set list during which time the drummer farted. Now I dunno about you, but I've got a real toilet sense of humour and this just happened to give me the giggles. It wasn't a rip-roarer, it was one of them ones where when you hear it, you aren't sure if it actually was a fart or a noisy chair. I looked at him, and by the grin he was trying to stifle I knew the bastard had farted. Anyway, I'm starting get get the giggles now and I can hear him trying to cover up his giggling too. Meanwhile, the bloke and his missus are completely oblivious and he's carrying on talking about the setlist songs and gigs etc. The only thing I can liken it to was the scene from the Life of Brian where he's going on about Biggus Dickus. Eventually, to remove myself from the situation I offer to make teas and run out into the kitchen where the tears are rolling down my face not only at the thought of the drummer farting but of him having to try and sit there conversing with this fella about the band. I'm bent over double laughing my bollocks off when I turn round and he's stood next to me in the kitchen holding his knackers so as he doesn't wet himself from laughing, tears pouring down his face. We were there for a good 3 or 4 minutes not saying a word, just laughing - at one point I thought I was going to have a coronary. Anyway, we then realise we can't just leave them both in the front room on their own so I say to him that he's got to go back in and keep them entertained, as I'm supposed to be making tea. We then start arguing over who has to go back, in-between long gusts of stifled laughter. He eventually agrees but just before he goes to head back he laughs again and a huge jet of snot shoots out of his nose. That's it for me, I'm on the floor like an immobilised cockroach hardly able to breathe from laughing and he's on his knees, with more tears, snot and dribble coming out of his mouth. Another few minutes and we eventually compose ourselves. The next twenty minutes were hell. I couldn't look at the drummer because I know what'd happen. I dunno what this guitarist and his missus thought but they never came back again. I wonder why.

I bought a Warwick Corvette off Ebay. The person had it down as a Watkins bass and nobody was interested. Looking at the photos it was obvious it was a Warwick and I put in a bid. Got it for £150. Bargain ! Played really nicely too.

I reckon he should go on stage wearing Lycra a la Steve Harris. That'd make people sit up and take notice of him …. *shudders*

They're not actually made by Kent Armstrong, they are a Kent Armstrong design made by "Sky Pickups" in Korea - hence the cheap price. Proper Kent Armstrong pickups are just as expensive as Barts and SDs, sometimes more so. They're good pickups all the same - I have a set of single coil Jazz vintage hot pickups in one of my basses and used to have a P bass with the vintage hot p-bass pickups in. That gave a real poweful output and a superb precision sound.

But I think the words, feel, soul, lack of and an uncanny knack to cultivate an ego the size of an aircraft hanger just doesn't make me warm to him one tiny iota.

Always been my amp of choice - I've tried some other rigs but always find myself coming back to Trace Elliot. Great for all styles of music, reliable and a great sound too - especially the early stuff. When they first came out they knocked spots off anything on the market IMO. The only other amp I'd consider would be an Ampeg SVT of some description.

One of their mum's used to play piano and they practiced in their front room. Talent doesn't come in to it mate. Its all subjective.

I saw them in 1983 at the old Marquee on London when Stuart Morrow was playing bass for them. Not really my cup of tea but it'd be a good gig to get. They play all over the place.

[/quote] Do what my singer's old band did back in the early 80s when they were booked for a 40 minute slot at the Skunx Club in Islington. They only had three songs so he came up with the brilliant plan of starting a fight after the third song. It worked like a charm and there was a full scale riot in the place with the police being called. Gig was cancelled and they got away with their credibility (partially) intact.
