Chorus Pedal

I had a Boss CEB-3 but it didn't suit me, not quite deep enough. Replaced with a Digitech multi-voice chorus - much wider depth range but digital and a bit 'metallic' sounding, still using it. I found a circuit for a modded Small Clone and built that at home with depth knob and 4 'voice' settings, its very sweet, works well on bass and lead, and very versatile range. It's my favourite chorus pedal, very quiet, true bypass.
2. I guess either separate parts secondhand or whole instrument second hand is a bit of a lottery.; you get resonant wood and you get dull stuff, at least with an assembled one you get to hear it and feel it. You could spend a lot of money on separate bits from a reputable source but still not get the mojo since wood is natural and varies a lot. I'd spend some time playing second hand ones till one 'speaks' to you.
3. I have just recently brought my 5-string Warmoth Gecko back into live play for the first time in years. Trouble was I got so used to the marvellous comfy fast low action neck of the stingray but I was just on autopilot for the gigs and not improving. A couple of hours tweaking the setup of the gecko, it played its first live gigs with me on Fr and Sat, the tone is marvellous - rich and deep, only a couple of songs gave me problems re extra string and I have suddenly had to focus a lot more again on what and how I am playing. Really enjoying it, and the occasional reinforcement with notes on the low B adds hugely to the sort of music we play. Great to start getting more confidence with it.
4. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Why oh why would you want to sell?
5. I love my Warmoth Gecko, put together about 11 years ago, sounds gorgeous, rich deep harmonics, lovely stable neck, great quality parts and very easy project. Pretty expensive but you end up with a unique instrument that plays and sounds great.
6. Must have been a very satisfactory 15 minutes with a rotary sander and a blowtorch. I'd love to be able to 'do that for a living'. "There ya go mate, fully f*€ked, that'll be £50"
7.
Just about to wire this up now.. Got a Xerograph Deluxe in the post, not sure which pedal to replace yet though.
Did you say REPLACE?! Get a bigger board.
8. Great venue for live music, our punk covers band have a gig at the Picturedrome on 2nd July, a fundraiser gig for the Huw Thatcher trust http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-12974434 Any of you fine bass chaps in the vicinity fancy an evening of punk classics and raise money for a worthy cause, drop me a line and I'll put some tickets aside.
9. a lot of passive switches are fine, only needing battery to power the indicator LED. Its a simple 15 minutes soldering a footswitch and 3 jackplugs, the parts will cost you no more than £12.
10. Is the EN012 diecast aluminium the size you are after? 111 x 60 x 30 mm http://www.bitsbox.co.uk/boxes.html I get a lot of stuff off Bob, very fast service and good prices. Get yerself a stepped drillbit and you are in business.
11. Here's another one I'm putting together for my guitarist mate and apple geek:
12. if the 2 batteries really do power separate parts of the circuit then you can just connect both reds together from the battery clips and both blacks together and send them to the +/- of a 9V dc jack plug socket, and power the pedal with a standard 9v adapter.
13. they really are very easy and cheap to make at home, I'm amazed why people spend over £70 on a set of velcro slats. Here's a sketch of the one I put together. MDF, velcro and a couple of rubber feet
14. New pedal time again, this one's finally finished off after knocking around half-complete for the past 4 months. It's a clone of the splendid Xotic BB Pre-amp; basically a classic Tubescreamer overdrive unit but with an active eq section by way of treble and bass controls run off a separate TL072 op-amp chip. A really good transparent overdrive tone means you preserve the characteristics of your guitar while adding bite and overdrive to the tone. With gain down it also acts as a clean boost or a treble boost circuit. Very versatile pedal and a great addition to the growing board of fun.
15. I found a cheap set of stepped drill bits on ebay, they have been invaluable for drilling enclosures no pillar drill strictly needed if you start the holes first with a 2mm metal drill bit
16. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Active-Jazz-B...9#ht_500wt_1156 Nice looking quiltiness but shouldn't the headstocjk have a bit more stuff on it, like ser no., country of origin?
17.
and your point is....?!
Huh?! My point is that I've totally screwed up the months of the year in the calendar and convinced myself it was being held this weekend. Gawd knows where that came from......saved me from an embarrassing trip to Harrogate yesterday, spent most of the afternoon tweaking the PA, it had been set up by monkeys with apparent hearing deficiencies.
18. I've built a couple of beavis units plus pot to control send/return level, they work fine (as you would expect - great site)
19. Gotta set up the hall for this evenings gig, might not get there till 2...
20. got a gig local near Harrogate on Sun nite so will have a car load of gear, be rude not to turn up really
21. Allen keys Duct tape spare battery extension lead spare lead phillips screwdriver
22. best cab i ever played thru was a mesa boogie 600w bass cab, 4 x 10, sounded gorgeous and it had casters on it. I felt embarrassed as I'd wheel my hartke cabs to a gig on the casters I'd screwed into them, then turn them thru 90 degrees so they had proper 'full contact with the floor'. The mesa cab sounded way better, but too dear for me to buy. There's a couple of morals in this story but its late and there's toast on.
23. normal pva is easily strong enough. you dont even need the cross-linking waterproof stuff since few people immerse their basses in water too often. I like to use 2-part epoxy like araldite to glue a fingerboard to a neck. it saves having to clamp it quite so hard for so long so you don't get little clamp marks down your neck. If you have the right offcuts and clamps you can avoid this anyway, I just like the smell of araldite in the morning.
24. Go on Fender - release something new for a change - just once - please!
25. What evidence does he cite that he thinks the ser/no is not authentic?
