As I have just completed another successful gig playing the 5 stringers I have decided to move on my fours. Will happily discuss trades for anything 5 strings. I have three 4's for sale/trade: A Stadium bass in black, Czech made. MTD designed, asymetric neck, zero fret, lovely woods, great electrics, beautiful player, great tone. An early Nightingale bass in black (Bernie Goodfellow designed I believe), lovely figured maple neck, great player, plenty of mojo but a lovely instrument. Finally a lovely Fender GB41SCE Acoustic bass, these were expensive beasts, beautifully made with some quality hardware and electrics. As I have made the move to 5's I am clearing out the 4's. Did another successful gig last weekend with a 5, so sticking with it. Mainly looking for trades but will look at sales to raise funds. I have a fab Czech made Stadium bass, super high quality, great player, Tobias designed with all the trimmings. Next up is a nice old Nightingale (Bernie Goodfellow designed I believe) which plays and sounds great, has mojo but is a great player. Lastly is a really nice Fender Acoustic bass, a GB 41SCE, these were expensive beasts with some nice hardware and features, really playable neck for an acoustic. Pics below: Stadium Bass at £ 275.00 Nightingale Bass at £ 295.00 Fender Bass at £ 195.00 All 5 string trades considered! Cheers All

5 strings - 35" scale - the downside...
vmaxblues replied to vmaxblues's topic in General Discussion
I am using the B string sparingly, but I do tend to like the E on the B string. It's a muscle memory thing for me, and finally the 5's are feeling a bit more familiar now. Odd how key things have helped, simple things like....A is the middle string, sounds obvious but strangely helped. The two fives I have are wider string spacing which is what has made it possible for me to transition, but this has obviously had an impact on the shapes my left hand is getting used to. But I take your point, I may be over thinking it, and standing awkwardly. An observer at a recent gig said to me afterwards, 'are you alright, you didn't look your normal self?' I had put this down to me concentrating on not making a mistake with the stringing, but it may have been I was somehow standing awkwardly. -
So, having made the move to 5 strings and now owning 2 no.35" scale 5 stringers, and loving the change, however I have just come down with a really painful elbow, just like tennis elbow. Only just made the connection, I think it is me practising a lot with my new 5 stringers, what do you guys reckon? And, what can I do about it? Cheers Stuart

I have had the same issue, I got it all off with a product called....wait for it.....'sticky stuff remover' yes honestly, and it solved it, most odd though. On ebay and Lakeland stock it.

Hi Guys, Got this from Muzz recently and it is a superb bass, unfortunately (or fortunately) I have recently converted to 5 strings so must start divesting myself of my 4's. The M2000 has some great features, especially the electronics and the neck is gorgeous. Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower, Count in

its such an unnatural feel that intro, never quite got it, just fall into it... -
So, to cut a long story short, we have a great PA which consists of two subs and two tops, because of a strange logistic issue (too tedious), we tend only to use the tops and as we only put vox through, this is fine. Trouble is our drummer wants his kick drum mic'd up. So what I have been doing is bringing my Markbass 2x10" extension cab and he has a TC 250 head and we mic up his kick drum through that. This has been OK apart from the hassle of me bringing an extra cab I am not using etc.. We gigged this weekend and he started fiddling with the amp settings (not really knowing what was what) I think he is expecting a stadium filling bass drum sound. Well, we kicked off with Parklife, and JEEESSSUUSSSS, the noise coming from behind me was a massive bass warbling underwater phase drone, had to run back to quickly adjust eq. But it has got me thinking, my poor 2x10" is going to get quickly screwed up with this kind of use, so is it best I get him to invest in a 1 x 15" and save my MB cab, or will the MB withstand this kind of use (at normal usable eq levels)?

Cheers All, feels the right thing to do, and I need to persevere until it becomes second nature, neural pathways and all that....

Do you let other people play your bass(es) ?

Friends and fellow bass players I know, no problem.. random numpties not a chance -
Following on from a previous thread, I did my first gig entirely with a 5 string. I took a 4 as a safety blanket but never used it. This has arisen from acquiring a Lakland Skyline 55-01 in a trade recently and finding that the string spacing felt very natural to me and meant that the transition became easier. And having that extra availability of a B string opened up some great possibilities. Surprisingly only mis stringed a couple of times (I was expecting a lot more). My rationale was that it is all very well at home and a rehearsal but until you have gigged it doesn't count. Following on from this I have just done a trade with Woody to acquire a second 5 which also has a wider string spacing and these pair will now be my gigging weapons of choice for the forseeable future. HI All, Got this in a trade recently and while it is a surprisingly great bass, I am transitioning to 5's so this has become surplus. It is this one: £150 for a very capable bass.

Mine has arrived today postmarked from Chicago, only had a brief look, but for £2 seems a bargain, but my carbon footprint has taken a battering!

Just did a trade with Ben, everything as it should be, great communication, top bloke to deal with.

Used the Lakland at the rehearsal last night, played our entire first set with it, and felt pretty comfortable with it, only slipped a couple of times. Went on to do the second set with a 4, and amazingly that felt weird for the first couple of numbers! I think it may well be worth persevering with the Lakland.

great comments guys
