Stand alone compressor pedal that is a battery operated?
PaulHornBass replied to MikanHannille's topic in Effects
For some reason I didn't clock that I could run my Keeley Bassist with a battery. Will have to give that a go and see how long it can last. Another compressor that I used to own and has a battery compartment is the DOD Milk Box. Wish I hadn't sold mine now, as they're a bit more expensive to buy secondhand nowadays! -
Stand alone compressor pedal that is a battery operated?

What did you go for in the end, @MikanHannille? I also have a desire for simplicity in my set up, so would be interested to know... -

An update on the saga. Towards the end of last year, the problems with my MB combo disappeared. A bit of crackle on the volume knob, but otherwise fine. I was so pleased with the amp's Lazarus act that I recently did what I felt I should have done years ago and bought another of the combos via basschat, to live at my bandmate's house in the Midlands, where we do most of our gigs. (I live in South London with no car.) No more going direct or plugging into unfamiliar rigs. Practicing with the same rig I gig with. Great. Then, over the past week, the problems with amp number 1 came back with a vengeance. Crackling and distorted notes up and down the fretboard. So now I'm contemplating whether to: (a) send it off to be repaired; (b) buy a used LM head and attempt to install it (assuming the problem is with the head part); (c) see if I can sell the combo as 'not working' and buy another combo amp/head and cab, perhaps as @TheGreek counselled wisely earlier on this thread, from a manufacturer with better customer service such as Ashdown.

Great compressor in very good condition. Bought recently on here and I like it a lot... I just have my eye on an upgrade. If that object of desire goes before I find a buyer for this, I'll be keeping the Keeley and withdrawing this ad. Obligatory ovnilab review: http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/keeleygc2.shtml

One Control Sonic Silver Sonic Peg, bought on Basschat following an Items Wanted post. It's a killer pedal, up there with the best I've used, but I'm going in a different direction for my tone shaping needs. One Control product page: https://one-control.com/products/sonic-silver-peg Basschat thread praising the pedal: Pictures to follow!

Bought a One Control Sonic Silver Peg from Paul after I posted in Items Wanted that I was on the lookout for one. He sent me some useful pictures of it showing the condition, and posted the pedal to me very quickly. Highly recommended! 👌

Scott's Bass Lessons technique accelerator
PaulHornBass replied to nekomatic's topic in Theory and Technique
I did this course during the first lockdown. I was a stubbornly pick-only player beforehand; after finishing the course, fingerstyle plucking felt completely natural and it's now my preferred technique. Of course the Technique Accelerator covers a lot of other stuff, but this particular area of improvement gave rise to a sea change for me. -

Tony bought a cable from me. Easy transaction, quick payment, a pleasure to deal with. 👍🏻👍🏻

Selling this highly rated compressor bought from ebay earlier this year. It is in good condition. The previous owner had it in his studio and I've only used it at home. Selling as I've recently bought a Keeley and I don't need two bass comps! Reduced to £80 plus free postage. The ovnilab website has the pedal as one of its top picks. Its secret sauce is described as follows: "The Low setting of the blend has an effect similar to the bass expansion/emphasis settings on many rack comps, which use a sidechain to reduce the amount that the detection circuit reacts to low frequencies. In this case however it is not a sidechain process, but an emphasis of the bass volume on the clean channel. While that does sound good, I actually prefer the Mid setting. It increases your punch and cut and articulation, without causing clipping from boosted lows. This is a killer feature." http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/vicegrip.shtml

Versatile hand made pedal from [sfx], capable of a range of tones from boost to fat and creamy overdrive. This is the version with the mids toggle control. Velcro on base. Recent purchase from Basschat, but just bought a new amp so need to recoup some funds! Asking just the £50 I paid, plus postage if needed.
