1.
I made that nut from an ivory-coloured chopstick.
Velly nice.
2. I think there was planned to be a collaberation between Ernie Ball and the pickup designer Bert Olini - the end result would have been a Bert and Ernie model.
3. Allparts UK also distribute Mojo so the Ampeg range is available via them - not likely to be 'on the shelf' however - delivery around 14 days. Oops my mistake - website says it IS in stock.
4. If you consider Fender blue /silver may be close enough, Allparts can supply it.
5.
Wilco are big fans of these I believe...
Don't you mean Bilko?
6. Anyone out there confirm my recollection that the early imported run of Musicman Stingray basses (circa 1978) were supplied with flats as standard? ALSO same recollection on a new (in 1976) Gibson T-bird? - I don't have the bass any more but have just rediscovered a string set put away years ago and indexed 'from Bi-centenial T-bird' - Flats with orange thread wraps. DITTO 70s Rickenbacker 4001. I reckon they've always been around but guys re-strung so regularly and kept trying the latest products, usually rounds.
7. It's got out of hand - I'm just about to head out for Sunday lunch and I'm gonna have the pork - do you hear? - PORK!! Then again, they do something that sounds like 'lamb cutlass' - I think graphite might be involved.
8. With a handle like shaggy you should be very careful out there - one or two members seem to have rammed the point home quite forcibly.
9.
sing of dodgy workmanship
Never had much of a problem with Allparts (exept for timing) as long as you get the order number right - better description (by pics) would help. Now , altogether now ......
10. Thank heavens for a sensible and informative reply. Saved me getting to the point of mentioning Cardigan and woolly jumpers.
11. It's OK Steve - bilbo's asleep now. My source reckons the parts were made in the Far East and then put together in Wales. However the ad. states 1980s and I thought Welsh Assembly came later than that?
12. Afraid we've got a way to go yet - here's us taking the mick out of this listing and I've just been told that there is indeed a chance the bass was made in Wales - I'm seeking verification but the information did come from a mint source.
13. I'm trying to come up with a line about chops but struggling.....
14. Yes certainly looks a nice joint round about the shoulders - got a feeling though it may sound a bit woolly.
15. Possibly, but being Welsh he was always a bit sheepish about any involvement
16. I think this was designed by that renowned Welsh luthier name of Barry Island.
17.
It's a shame the word 'thud' is always used
The word I use is THUNK.
18. It's a good idea to make your choice of fretless bass as close as possible to the fretted one you use so that the only difference is.....you guessed it! I would advocate an unlined board with the occasional side dots - when I tried a lined version I was drawn to what looked like a fret and was inclined to play in behind it. Just my experience mind - we're all different.
19. Strangely enough you need a neck on first. When you say you have, the guys will chip in with certain formulae.
20. There you go - unless you're going to re-string using more wraps, simply slacken the string to the point whre you can push the wrap right down and hold it there while you re-tighten. Glad to help.
21. Just on open A? Can you establish if the buzz is eminating from behind the nut by depressing the string between nut and machine - if so, the likely explanation is too little wrap on the A-string post giving insufficient break angle. See what happens and report back.
22.
See....I knew you knew everything.
Whisper it....I even understand women (oh dear, what have I said?)
23.
have a word with the Bass Doc- he knows everything about things like this.
Thanks for the compliment rs. but I think the distance between lee4 and myself precludes any practical help. Super glue can be successful but I would suggest a replacement nut is the best way forward. I've always found Yamaha's spares dept to be helpful - ring them and quote the model bass and they should be able to supply a nut to fit at nominal cost.
24. New one costs around £70 so he's obviously allowed for depreciation and the fact it doesn't suit Fenders - then added £100.
