  1. Not quite true - Fish was "Fish" before he joined Marillion - a nickname given him by his friends due to the long hours he allegedly spent in the bath, while lodging as a trainee forestry worker before his musical career took off. The nickname was snappier than his real name (Derek Dick) so it stuck. <anorak mode off> And whilst its hard to deny that the B side of their first single "Grendel" does owe more than a little to aspects of Super Ready, that's just one track from a 30 year career (4 albums with Fish and 10 with his successor, Steve Hogarth). The Marillion of today is a very different beast from the Marillion of 30 years ago, and continues to boast a superb bassist in Pete Trewavas. Both Fishes knew each other from the touring circuit and got on well, Singer Fish paid a moving tribute to bassist Fish on Facebook on Sunday. Here is what he said: "there is a dark cloud over us all today:-( I've just heard that Chris Squire has passed away. There was a post on Billy Sherwood's page that was soon removed and I hoped it was a hack. However both John Wetton and Geoff Downes tweeted to confirm we have lost him. I first saw him on stage at the Edinburgh Usher Hall back in 1975. It was my very first concert and I was catching my then favorite band. I admit to being so impressed with the big guy on bass that It played a big part when I welcomed the suggestion from friends to adopt his nickname. It was a bit embarrassing when we first met backstage in L.A. when I was on an American tour with Marillion. "Fish meet Fish" being the introduction. We met several times over the years and I have fond memories of a lovely guy with a brooding dark side that oozed danger. We partied very hard a few times and opened quite a few story boxes in the late hours of a morning. He was a brilliantly talented bass player and master musician and I hold him up there with the best I have ever seen or heard. Another legend lost, RIP Fish."

  3. And if Alex reads this and is not comfortable I'm happy to withdraw.
  4. I totally get what your saying KK Jale. Just aware there are possibly a few Basschatters with severe GAS for Barefaced kit and a little discount might help them out? Making some money is not my motive - I do love my Barefacved cab and the overall ethos, and would like to see their cabs more often in the big wide world. Happy to donate anything I might earn to a music related charity.
  5. Its true! Tell them I recommended Barefaced to you and could get up to £50 off your new cab, depending on what model you choose http://barefacedbass.com/competition.htm pm me first so I can give you my referrer email details. Cheers
  6. Just home from cousins 60th birthday party at Via Fossa, Nottingham, Nightmare load-in upstairs, through thronged bar full of concurrent stag and hen parties, tiny stage with a pair of dead mains sockets, competing with throbbing house piped music bleeding through from downstairs, yet all turned out fine. Hard work competing with relatives who haven't seen each other for months and want to talk and eat through the first set, but the place was jumping in the second set. First gig with my Warwick 2007 Custom FNA 5er, and I loved the sound through the Warwick LWA 1000 head and Barefaced Big Baby 2 3g cab. Warm and deep yet punchy at the same time. Kudos to the venue staff, especially the security guys, who let us park in the no-parking area and kept an eye on our vehicles while we loaded in and out. Time for sleep now, then a 370 mile round trip to pick up a Fleabay Thumb bass :-)
  7. That would be an FNA Jazzman 5 Custom Shop 2007 acquired just this Monday from fleabay and not quite set up properly yet - but it does look great! Wow that was fun! Thank you for the kind comments on my humble basses - isn't it funny how basses always seem to sound better in other players hands! Thank you to the patient souls who tolerated my ham-fisted attempts to try their basses!. Excellent organisation, appropriately amusing raffle prizes, shame I didn't try the cakes - they looked tasty! Many thanks to the organisers!
  8. The Terminal Five Experience played at the South Notts Beer Festival at Wilford last night. Venue is a rugby club, and when we arrived to set up in the clubhouse a match was in full progress outside. This resulted in having to set up in a crowded clubroom surrounded by 40 drunken Vikings (complete with false beards, horn helmets, plastic axes, the works). Quote of the day - "Is there a mic on, I need to make a speech" - at that point the rig was just a pile of boxes and cables with not a speaker in sight! No time to sound check properly because the European rugby final was on the big screen directly above the drummer. Then they wanted us to go straight on, 40 minutes earlier than our advertised start time. You'd think this would be a recipe for disaster? But no - it was a great gig. Sound was tight and clear, plenty of dancers and audience singers, and a good time had by all. First gig with our new drummer after just 4 rehearsals with him - he sounded like he'd played with us forever. 2 new (to us) songs went down a storm. Bonus - the early start meant back home with cocoa by 11.30!
  9. Sold a Lakland 55-01 bass to Simon. Excellent communication throughout, very prompt PayPal payment, Simon kindly organised the collection of the bass and kept me informed throughout. A simple, straightforward deal conducted professionally and efficiently. No hesitation recommending! Thanks Simon.
  10. Winning FleaBay bidder failed to pay up so it's back on sale.
  11. And, dare I say it, there is a pretty good forum on the Warwick web site where you could post your GAS
