  1. I seem to remember a period (80's?) When bass players and drummers found themselves pretty much redundant for studio work due to the advent of programming. I also remember the next big thing which was software that added the "human feel" back into tracks as they sounded too manufactured. I've always played in front of the beat and I'm aware that I do it. Not saying it's right, or good and try as I may, can't change but eventually, it seems to become integral to the sound that the band has. On the other hand, I suppose it could be any one, or more, of the technical possibilities that have been proffered.
  2. I should have an old pic on the PC. I'll have a look.
  3. The bass. Red Roscoe Beck Jazz 5 The guitar. Hamer Steve Stevens
  4. Yes, exactly that. Super stable, but heavy. Apart from a proper bridge, all the rest was odds and sods.
  5. From memory, the only thing that survived the accident was the neck. The framework I recall, was created by the owner and his Dad. It worked, and funnily enough, sounded like a double bass.
  6. A few years ago (about 5 I think) I bought, what was later to be called the "Frankenbass" from a BC member (Bloop dad) A superb vision of creativity and feat of engineering resulting from, (if I remember correctly) a vehicle / double bass related issue. I had bought it with a view to learning but also as a bit of a quirky statement. I loved it although It seemed at the time that not many others shared my enthusiasm. Fast forward a couple of years and it was usually then described as my "art installation" In 2021, after settling back in the UK in Norfolk, I decided to sell it as I had a further two EUBs and so, it was sold via Facebook to a lovely young lady called Sophie who weighed approximately half of the weight of the Frankenbass and who also loved and "got the quirkiness" Was it doomed to be forever a conversation piece? No it wasn't. Attached are a few pics. Ranging from my purchase, a first live gig with the new owner, to getting tried out by an old pal of hers (yes, it really is him) and the new make over to give it a more modern appearance and now being played live at least once on a weekly basis. Sorry to bore you all but I just love it when things, particularly instruments which seemed to have stalled, get the chance to continue their journey. 7. I was in an Essex band called Midlife Crisis (South Woodham Ferrer's) at that time, there was even a website dedicated to bands with that name. There were 43 bands registered😂
  8. Well, if I pass Wednesday's audition, I will be a member of " Lady & the tramps" covers band doing stuff by Bonnie Raitte, Samantha Fish, Kelly Clarkson, Sheryl Crow etc. If I don't get it, I'll still be a member of Dereham indoor bowls club which is not really a band as it's a bowls club.
  9. Just a stab in the dark but is there a possibility that the name of band 3, and the term "no gigs" are connected in any way?
  10. That's nice. Got a real F bass vibe going on. Cool.
  11. Ah, so you've joined the club Pat. You won't be disappointed. I'll expect to hear it at the next Blues meet.

  13. It'll turn out like Starwars. They'll get to Vintage MK4, then bring out The Fender Original Vintage series, and then the Vintage Original series. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
  14. Here's mine. Elwood 5a Got it as a PX when I sold my Elite Jazz 5 I know you've heard it all before but this really has turned out to be everything I've been searching for in a bass. A sort of mixture of all the good attributes of all the other basses I've had in the past.
  15. Okay, final attempt before they go in the shed forever. Pair of EV SX 200s. 300w 8 Ohm tops. Also double as great floor monitors. In out Speakons, all working. Inc 2 cables I've had a look on Ebay and can't find any under £275. No, they don't have covers. Yes, they're scratched. Yes, they're gigged. Yes, the little EV badges have fallen off however, they sound fabulous and are basically unbreakeable. Absolutely perfect for pub rock or a rehearsal space. Quality sound for not a lot of money. Pick up only I'm afraid unless you want to do all the arranging of couriers etc at your risk. Price drop. Now £275 for the pair. But now includes a Yamaha 400w powered EMX 212s mixer (200+200 both with graphic) Sounds brilliant with these tops. Plenty loud enough for rock vocals in pubs/clubs etc. So, apart from a pair of stands, a great sounding pub PA for £275
  16. Two leather bass/guitar straps. Both about 70mm wide. Plenty of adjustment length. Price is for the pair. Loads of life left. Happy to post, about £3 I reckon.
  17. Yup, they are nice. Had two 6ers but the dreaded arthritis put a stop to those.
  18. Sorry, just agreed a sale and packing it up now but for future reference if your after one, this was 18.5 centre to centre. Thanks for the enquiry though.
  19. Now that's how I like to remember the 70s. Proper rock n roll.👍
  20. No problem. As you say, inevitable however, you've gone right up in my estimation as you had the decency to wait 13 hours😂
  21. Yeah, why not? Other hobbies are good. Especially when they don't involve singers, low-life pubs, egos, 1am breakdown and load-ups, unadvertised gigs, unreliable band members, overloud guitarists and drummers, drunks and Hey Joe😉
  22. Will obviously supply more pics if any interest. Metal detector sorted so now looking to sell. I've got enough bass guitars for someone who's not in a band so, as I've got into metal detecting and fancy an upgrade, there just might be one of you that has a pro level detector you're not using and fancy a well used, but nice classic Energy 5 string that weighs just around the 8lbs mark. No case but could chuck in a cheap gigbag. The dot markers are real, not stick-ons. Seen some fair usage but great for what I imagine is a 30 year old bass. Super light for a five string, very comfey to wear and play. All pots work, has a new battery compartment. Welcome to come, play, twiddle and decide. Quality biscuit provided with exceptional cup of accompanying coffee. Newly strung with I can't remember strings that were a new spare set I got with another bass. Think they're 40-125s Never appears to go out of tune.
