  1. I have started playing short scales recently - starting with a little Gretsch expanding since then into a U5, JMJ Mustang and an Acinonyx. Shallow I know but I Googled short scale red bass because for showbiz reasons I needed a red bass to match some stage outfits! What came top of the list was a refurbished Vox Starstream Artist 2S on the Vox website. Including gig bag it was £350. Given they were well north of a grand when they came out - and some people had paid that - I went for it. I took it to a gig and our sound engineer raved about it compared with my other basses. Ironically I don't enjoy playing it as much as the Mustang and the Acinonyx basically because they have flats on them which feel better to me - so my next quest is to find flats that sound brighter than a normal flat. It's a weird looking thing and not everybody's cup of tea but it's nicely balanced and very light and with the right strings could be my go to bass - something I never would have predicted when I Googled red short scale.
  2. I have very few things cheaper or an equivalent price to the Danelectro - I have a Sire V7 Jazz style bass which I have played about half a dozen times, a TC Electronic Spectra Drive and a TU tuner currently fitted into a Boss BC Box and an Aguilar Octamizer. Of greater value I have a Vintera 50s Precision in Vintage Blonde and a red Spector Legend 5 Classic. And a ridiculously higher value Sandberg California TM4 Super Light in Redburst. All probably no good for you! .
  3. What are you interested in by way of trades?
  4. Bought a Sire U5 from Andy - great fellow to deal with and bass exactly as described.

  5. I'm interested in these- looking for something super lightweight as I enter the creaking age. Any good?
  6. She's a pretty little thing. Seafoam Green or whatever the equivalent Dano colour is. In pretty good nick - couple of marks and blemishes which I've shown on the picture. I guess you either want one or you don't. It's long scale which, if you've played one you'll know and never forget, means very long. I just haven't got on with it. I was going to stick it on a wall but that's really a fate no bass guitar deserves. It should be played. Bought 2nd hand pre-lockdown and I have used it for one rehearsal since then and minimal playing at home. It's strung with flats which is nice. No case so collection only - or meet up somewhere appropriate. I'm based in Cookridge in Leeds.

  7. The afternoon I was going to have it! Drat.
  8. Is this still available?
  9. There aren't many Superlights in the wild! I went looking and if I didn't want to by a custom one I could only find 3 4 string versions for sale in the whole of Europe. I ended up buying one that was shipped to Leeds from Madrid. Guess what - it's superlight! Haven't gigged with it yet but it feels lovely to play.
  10. Just picked up a Talman 30 in ivory. Pricy for second hand - £135 - but the bloke had fitted flats to it. Not plugged into my big amp yet but good through headphone amp and great fun to play.
  11. Too late now!
  12. It's one of the old Cedar batch.
  13. This is from Reverb
  14. Sod it - went for the Redburst in Spain. Did more reading, thought about my back, what I need is something pretty versatile and ultra light that's of impeccable quality. Didn't think I'd get much better for the cash. Now I have to think about the various things I could do with flogging to compensate US Telecaster anyone? How about a Sire V7, Danelectro 63 Long scale, Jack Casady Signature Epiphone in gold, Revelation RPB65, a Sterling Sub in Walnut, a Trio pedal or a Korg D1600 multitrack recorder, or even a Sheffield Wednesday season ticket anyone?!
  15. This is their Leeds stock.
  16. I’ll Google furiously but I can’t see there’ll be many Sandberg SLs or Elwood Ls close by. Bass Direct is a 5 hour round trip and I’m working.
  17. It never ends. Attracted by the Sandberg and Elwood L looks pretty good. Obvious problem living in Leeds I can't just pop to the shop and play one and it isn't chicken feed we're talking.
  18. That’s what actually promoted my thoughts. When I saw they were round the 8lb mark I was interested. New they’re a bit over budget and there’s very few second hand about. Likewise the Sandberg SL basses. Few and far between.
  19. And then I found this amongst others:- https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Mensinger_Joker_4p.html
