  1. This is my exact Christmas.... except the weird Christmas liqueurs get opened at breakfast time and are consumed slowly and steadily throughout the day.
  2. If anyone has the bass tab to "French Disko" by Stereolab, you will earn my eternal gratitude and a big sloppy kiss (optional and subject to availability). Thank you.
  3. An odd one is "welcome to the jungle" by guns n roses. One of those tracks that everyone knows and that has had a long life. But... Didn't even manage to crack the top 20 in the UK singles chart. Which is pretty surprising, even taking into account that a lot of people had the track through buying the album. So, as a single, it wasn't really a big hit.. yet it is still one of the best known rock songs. Huge AND not huge.
  4. Might need to check your settings in Spotify and set Streaming to "very high". Also, Spotify quality seems to vary a bit depending which interface you play through. For example... Played through firestick Spotify app (which goes through optical cable, soundbar and sub) setup, sounds awful. Played through my TVs native Spotify app, which goes through same optical cable, soundbar and sub, sounds miles better.
  5. How about The Sex Beatles... Can't lose with that one!
  6. Band names courtesy of Peep Show... The Hair Blair Bunch Coming Up For Blair Various Artists SpunkBubble Mama's Cumquat Curse These Metal Hands Man Feelings Danny Dyer's Chocolate Homonculus Free The Paedos .... I'd avoid using that last one!
  7. Fave one hit wonder... "Your Woman" by White Town
  8. Their second album "stigma" is awesome and still sounds great.
  9. BC is a welcome safe harbour from the toxicity of political discussion that pervades Facebook and other social media and forums. I've only been on here since last summer, but everyone seems friendly and helpful (and generally seems to avoid politics... Long may that continue). 👍
  10. I think, a bit like with cars, the paintwork would suit some models more than others. But you're right, it's purely subjective.
  11. Here's how it looks on a car...
  12. Is anyone aware of any basses coated in vantablack? Or would it be completely unsuitable? Surely it would look awesome on the right bass?!
  13. Thank you all for your great suggestions. Some of them I already knew, some were great to find out and the rest are on my list to try. I would also add "Crying" by Bjork, which I found today... A simple funky riff that repeats itself. Thanks again BCers 👍
  14. Does anyone have any suggestions of tunes that have simple (i.e. very easy to play for a beginner) riffs that repeat through the whole song? Thinking like "National Anthem" by Radiohead All suggestions gratefully received 😀
  15. US guitar firm Fender illegally restricted discounts, says CMA https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/oct/08/us-guitar-firm-fender-discounts-cma-uk-sale-price-deals The UK’s competition watchdog has accused the US guitar maker Fender of fixing prices illegally by restricting online discounts on its guitars. From 2013 to 2018, Fender Musical Instruments Europe impeded competitive online pricing by imposing a minimum sale price on vendors, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said in a provisional ruling. The practice, known as resale price maintenance, is illegal and makes it difficult for customers to find good deals. Fender is the world’s biggest maker of guitars and its famous models include the Stratocaster, Telecaster and Precision bass. The California-based company’s models are played by stars such as Eric Clapton, U2’s The Edge and Taylor Swift, and its basic Squier range is popular with beginners. The CMA has been investigating Fender since April 2018 and has already fined the company £25,000 for concealing notebooks at its European headquarters in East Grinstead. The watchdog fined Casio £3.7m in August for restricting online discounts for its digital pianos and keyboards. Ann Pope, the CMA’s senior antitrust director, said: “Shopping online can make it much easier to compare prices and hunt down bargains – this can be especially important for potentially big purchases like a guitar. “We take allegations of resale price maintenance very seriously because it removes one of the benefits of the internet of making it easier to quickly find a better price by shopping around.” The CMA said guitars make up a big part of the UK market for musical instruments, which is worth £400m in sales. Online sales of instruments have grown to about 40% of the market, making it important that internet vendors can offer the price they want, according to the CMA. It said it had not made a final decision that Fender broke the law and would listen to the company’s version of events before coming to a verdict by the end of the year.
  16. I recently took up the bass and got a Yamaha trbx174 as my first instrument... Very happy with it. Do get someone to do a proper set-up on your bass and factor it into the overall cost. I got a cheap Harley Benton 20w amp from Thomann... Just right for practicing in the spare room... Gets plenty loud, but not so loud as to p!ss off the neighbours. As a previous poster mentioned the Zoom b1 four is a great little tool... Has drum rhythm tracks you can play along to, lots of sound effects for you to tinker with and a looper function that is kinda fun to mess with.
  17. Ignore that post above... Mixture of poor eyesight and uncoordinated thumbs meant I posted something/somewhere I didn't mean too... And I haven't even started drinking yet!

    P&J

Just out of interest... Are there many bassists in big name bands who switch between P and J basses for different songs... or do they all tend to stick with the one style of bass for their set (and just tinker with pedals/effects)? Sorry, for the dumb/naive question (I'm a noob bassist).... while I've seen guitarists switch guitars during a set, I've never really noticed bass players doing it.
  19. An honourable/dishonourable (delete as desired) mention should go to L7 for their trouser dropping on Channel 4's "the word"... And for the used tampon throwing at Reading Festival.
