  1. I've never heard this cover of the Otis Redding classic before but you are indeed hearing a G# not an A as you suspected and weirdly enough it sounds "off" to me. Much prefer the A. As has been mentioned it could be that this version has strayed from the original somewhat. IF the piece is in b minor then the G# is outside the key and explains why it sounds off to my ear.
  2. This is exactly why I feel Sadowskys are better for being heard in a mix over Fender. You feel the Fender but really hear the Sad more in my experience.Depends on what your goals are. Currently rocking a Fender Player Plus Jazz V with a modified onboard Sad preamp with the VTC and when I play live I hear notes in a way I never did with unmodded Fenders whether American or Mexican.
  3. I agree with this. I feel like the choice of bass is for the bassist but the end-product is for everybody else. If a bass can be heard and you play it well I don't think most people care what it is,and why should they? Most paying audience members and music consumers wouldn't successfully identify a bass from an electric guitar. Play what you like and play well.
  4. It would be very interesting to see how many of us could tell the difference between a P and a neck only J on a recording.
  5. If I want to cover both I'm happy with just the J personally. It's close enough to me and still gets the job done. I wouldn't necessarily see a PJ as an obvious solution,on both pickups it's not J enough to my ear.
  6. The Jazz can "impersonate" a P bass using neck pickup only rather than emulate one. Two very different terms ☺️ In a live setting it gets close enough-a blind test in that environment would yield interesting results πŸ‘
  7. Let me know when you're bored of it 😁
  8. The more I try different strings the more I'm convinced they all have in more in common than they don't regardless of brand. I used to be really swayed by the marketing machine but not so much these days. I say that to say whenever a "favourite" of mine becomes too expensive I jump ship to something cheaper and I can't say I've been overly disappointed if at all. I think it was Paul McCartney that was asked what his favourite string choice was and he replied "Long shiny ones" I like that response 😊
  9. Hello again mate,I remember you from a different thread. I'm still convinced these are 34" you know πŸ™‚ Are the bridge saddles on your one further forward a bit? Hey of course it's not a big deal either way, great basses those early slapcut models, enjoy it 😁
  10. Same here. Had a very pleasant e-mail exchange with him about a year ago so it seems away from the norm there's been nothing since I last mentioned.
  11. No idea if this has been said before but I'm in the Jazz camp because it can do a P "impersonation" whereas a P can't impersonate a J. I like both 60s and 70s pickup spacing but lean towards the 60s for more authority in a band mix. I'll take either however.
  12. I'm still waiting for a response to an e-mail from the end of January this year so good question...
  13. I've lost count of the amount of bassists I would never have heard of if it weren't for their signature bass models. Roger was definitely one of them even though I knew of Pink Floyd since I was quite young.
  14. Congratulations!!! These are REALLY nice creations. I've tried one in both The Bass Gallery and Bass Direct and was very impressed 😊
  15. You may be pleasantly surprised. I'm specifically referring to Sunbeams.
  16. Have you tried DR rounds at all?
  17. That was me.Totally given up on them now. Regardless of brand (including TI Jazz Flats) it sounded like a thick blanket was placed over my cabinets compared to using rounds. I can't see the appeal but it's all personal.
  18. Always thought these were 17.5mm? I've had 2 Ray35's.
  19. They currently have another one at the same Β£749 in the same finish. They also have one in the charcoal grey finish @ Β£1,199.00 so I'm a bit suspicious of the price difference based on what you went through.Apparently it will be shipped to the customer directly from Cort so it's not even available to try in a showroom first. I tried one roughly when you started this thread last year and it was packed with manufacturing defects.
  20. I can accept that. I've seen jazz clips of his pre-Cream days and thought he played well in them. Just personal taste I guess.
  21. I think Ginger was under-rated. He had incredible (to me) jazz chops.
  22. Animal. That made me laugh out loud πŸ˜‚
  23. I would say he was better known as a pop singer in the 80s than a 60s/70s jazz guitarist. Chart topper was meant tongue-in-cheek but he did very well in his "second" career and made more money than ever. Actually maybe not so tongue-in-cheek,back in the 80s he had several top 10 hits in the US charts and UK charts including two number ones in the US R&B chart. So yes, 80's chart topper who sang.
  24. I think this depends on the age-range of the individuals asked. Similar is George Benson. How many people know the jazz guitar giant he is versus the 80s pop singing chart topper?
  25. I'm only recently learning how true this is...
