  1. Steve what basses do you like regardless of cost?
  2. That's fair Steve. So if it was me I've had very good luck with Squiers so would look at another one. I know you don't like them however 🙂
  3. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/bass-collection-sb315-5-string-bass-guitar-made-in-japan-lovely-bass-/1499771017 Oh all right then 😆
  4. You're correct. All Broadnecks are German only.
  5. Hi Steve. It played effortlessly but I didn't plug it in as I was short for time and had a train to catch out of Southampton. It was light as well if that's an important factor. Nice thickish neck and wider string spacing (18mm at least) if that's what one likes.
  6. This one @Cornwall Steve
  7. The red Yamaha I posted and possibly the link I posted to the Sire. The Sire not your thing? You said you would take one over a Squier (I think Squiers are great) Apologies for the double posting of the Yamaha suggested by @Jakester earlier.
  8. I can't disagree with this to be fair.
  9. https://bassbros.co.uk/product/2010-ibanez-btb675/ That's your lot from me 🤣
  10. https://www.theguitarstoreonline.co.uk/products/sire-marcus-miller-p5r-5-string-bass-in-tobacco-sunburst-pre-owned I literally played this yesterday in the store when I was briefly in Southampton with work.
  11. 16.5mm apart from the Broadneck 5s. I have really low action on both my Broadnecks.
  12. Based on German Warwicks (I have two) and EBMM SR5's (I've had a few) I really wouldn't pay too much attention to the scale length. I tried a Lakland Skyline 55-02 in Guitar Guitar recently and the B string on that example sounded awful to my ear. There are good and bad B strings in every scale length. I personally believe it's for mainly for marketing purposes.
  13. No we don't agree. I never said Metal is noise. I don't think it's appropriate to blare out any loud music in a guitar store where gear is tried out by potential customers. Metal is not my aesthetic choice but it's still music played by often very talented individuals.
  14. Not getting something doesn't automatically qualify it as nonsense in my opinion.
  15. Maybe not just to fans of jazz. Guitar Guitar in Camden sometimes blare out metal in the store and erm...I'll leave it there 😂
  16. No punk expert here but wasn't it rebelling against certain kinds of establishment "nonsense",like jazz did/does in certain strains.
  17. Ok I'll bite. You not liking jazz music makes it nonsense? 😂
  18. I have to say I was browsing in Anderton's last week and tried a 5 string Dingwall Combustion Nashville Edition. Call me mad but I totally fell for the banjo sized frets it had. My hands just glided over the fretboard with barely any effort. Playability for days...
  19. I've been to gigs and seen bassists switch between 4 and 5 string mid-set and based on the end result never know why they bother. But maybe that's for another discussion ☺️ I play across the fretboard as I exclusively play 5s so therefore I play the G all the time.
  20. Yes I understand WHY mods exist but having owned SR5s in the past it's never occurred to me on any them to change out the neck. I ask to understand WHAT the "improvements" if any are. Your response to @roger highlights and answers my question. Can I ask why then you still prefer wooden necks? I learn a lot from this forum being far from an expert 👍If I have any "issues" with SR5s it's the narrow (to me) string spacing, the necks always felt great.
  21. I've watched about 3 videos including this one. They sound REALLY good 👍
  22. These look amazing to me. The fact that I'm a fan of 47mm nut width and 19mm bridge spacing means I'll stick with my current Jazz 5 string (for now)
  23. This would do well in the Bass Picture Funnys thread 😂
  24. Do you have any specifics by any chance? Tried Google but nothing so far...
