  1. Yes ! Masters of reality first album also purchased from shades . Awesome The album was rightly lauded by the music critics , but ended up in many shops for as little as £1 -3 . I kid you not 😼 The gatefold sleeve is cool too I paid substantially more ..
  2. I remember going to shades records one Friday afternoon ( regular customer) I heard them playing this album and was blown away, They had the import ,and I had to go back the following Friday to get it . That , and manic frustration are 2 fantastic albums .
  3. Was that 20 party classics ? Seem very jolly ..( sorry 😺)
  4. Howdy! A bit of an odd question here. Mac user. Throughout lockdown I have been recording on GarageBand and quite enjoy doing so . I do have reason , but for some reason ( please excuse 😼) I find that it looks more complicated than GarageBand . Dare I say , intimidating I was wondering , if it was best to try and overcome my fear of using that software , and just purchase logic instead . With GarageBand for example, it is straightforward to me ,but reason looks more complex . Any thoughts ?
  5. Thank you ! I have early sabs, and trouble . I have the icon album from paradise lost , but haven't played it for years . Have heard of electric wizard . Have a cathedral track on a '90s complication which is good . Heard of my dying bride. Lots to look into here ..
  6. Yeah, saw girl school many times in the '80s . Always good value . I'd say if they were just starting out now , they'd be a lot bigger . The last time I saw them was with rogue make at the Hammersmith Clarendon . Rogue male supporting . Very late '80s/early '90s . Jim lyttle was a top bloke . It was a good gig . Onky saw rock goddess once at the marquee around the same time . They were good. They just passed me by for some reason . Not sure of the ins and outs , but I'm not sure if they were managed / promoted very well ..
  7. So many types of metal these days ( which is obviously good ) . I have to be honest , and say that I've heard of one or 2 doom bands but don't really know where to start . So I'll be watching this thread and see what's what . I suppose the nearest I've got to doom metal is obituary ..and death . It's probaly not doom ..
  8. Shame , but expected due to the reasons mentioned . I have fond memories myself , as I used to work next door to soho soundhouse in soho sq. ( was it also turnkey?) Bizarre happening one Monday morning , when me and my boss went to collect the post from rathbone place . We noticed a homeless guy walking around our building with a grey blanket . ( This was about 6.45 am). we said good morning to the local Hare Krishnas , while pushing our large trolley . On returning , we noticed the window of soho soundhouse smashed , and a guitar or 2 got nicked . In all truthfulness ( and hindsight), I could have helped myself as well, but was too honest and no basses were on display. A police officer showed up early afternoon , but not much was said really . myself and my friends used to always be in those shops many a lunchtime . The last time I was in Denmark Street , was about 2015, to get my steinberger looked at by Graham Noden . I used to be a customer of his a few times over the years. Top bloke . I've still got my Washburn status purchased in macaris back in'88 when there was a train strike . Graham took the active circuitry out about 12 years ago . I do miss the '80s.
  9. I was at the gig . I ended up taking home a seat from that gig , after the crowd surged forward and broke a fair few . Well , I was Young 😼 They had to do a handful of those songs again for the video , and were a bit peeved off to say the least . Great gig !
  10. I too was at the priest/ maiden gigs of the '80s at hammy o and the rainbow . Did anyone go to the one at the rainbow, where halford ran into the Crowd ? On the front cover of sounds the following week, there was halford standing ontop of the pa , and a big x covering his private parts 😹
  11. You're probaly right . Production ( mutt) was their friend .
  12. I had the getcha socks off ep ( yellow label , and not the rarer red ) and played it a lot . There was a rumour that they were going to play the music machine one Monday night, but in fact didn't . Luckily I saw them at hammy o supporting Ac/Dc on Rick's birthday . I remember Pete Willis being very good .I had the wasted 7"" , but hello America wasn't to my liking , and I was buying other metal instead . Looking back , I detested the pop stuff, although the harmonies are good and they have 1 or 2 songs that I do like . I keep meaning to listen to high and dry,,as I heard that in a friends house . May do one day ..
  13. Interesting about the 7th son album. Maiden were obviously great at donington ( and cologne the following Sunday ) . I had that album , but with tracks like can I play with madness , I had to get rid I don't recall them singing baggy trousers , but Bruce did start wearing flares onstage . Yes, justice is a very good album. Tracks such as one , harvester, shortest straw and blackened are classic Metallica imho. The garage days ep is great imho , but they have milked the covers a bit too much imho. Having whiskey in the jar on the live set list should have been dropped by now imho. Watered down rubbish imho Apologies for the many imho😼
  14. He could do a mean version of rivers of Babylon on that
  15. He'll get a lot of ribbing for that , that's for sure .
  16. It's funny really about metallica . I have all of their stuff. I think with therm , when they were the underdogs they were at their best . They still have occasional tracks that still kick . I thought death magnetic was a return to form along with the 12" with hate train on it . Then they churned out another s&m ..and lulu 🤮. Hard wired is patchy imho and I'm bored of them now . I bought the ride the lightning deluxe box set , but sold it because their attitude is too much like kiss these days imho. I offloaded the live binge and purge ,as we all know that is going to be reissued . I'll just stick to downloads with them from now on . I saw them at the o2 a few times . The pre death magnetic gig for a fiver was brilliant . The lhardwired gig at the o2 was the last time I saw them , and tbh I'm bored of the cash 🐄 Ive seen them many times ,and wore the various t shirts . The first time I saw them was at the Lyceum , but I have that on download and don't need all the filler . I think Jason was awesome also , and he sung whole songs in place of Hatfield at times .
  17. They actually played this as their jingle 😺
  18. I had that 12" ep by the blood , but lost it when I moved home . It was pretty gothy from what I remember . Hard to find now . Alices restaurant was a pirate rock station on Saturdays and sundays . Sometimes you could hear them getting raided and start up again .. I was gonna say that I need to get out more , but due to COVID I can't 😺 This is still on one of my old record boxes ..
  19. I was at the bandwagon a few times . I remember neal Kay was kind of softly spoken and was named catweazle He played an awful amount of tedious ( imho) AOR stuff , and we had to constantly badger him to play Budgie . I still have the 1st metal for muthas lp. I had a fair few 7" singles, but ended giving them to animal charity shops ..except the soundhouse tapes which I sold for £385 a few years ago when times were extremely hard . You tube is handy for listening to stuff that you can't find anywhere . Typing this is doing my head in at the moment due to the multiple adverts on planet woke radio, I'm getting fed up with that station .There weren't many ( if any ) metal radio stations here in the uk . Does anyone remember Alice's Restaurant ?
  20. Unfortunately , I don't drive so everything seems far now 😺
  21. That's a great story old man riva , about your experience with diamond head. 👍
  22. Thanks for the kind offer prof You have some fine basses. I'll have to decline your kind offer though, as I think my probable next step is to get a proper status seeing as my Washburn status has always been my go to bass. I nearly sold my Warwick a few weeks ago, but that is very light and has a slimline body and judging from the reaction I am better off keeping for now . Out of interest, where are you based ? Oops ! Berkshire , which is a bit too far from me in poole 😺
  23. I only play sitting down these days , due to only recording stuff on soundcloud these days . My friend had a Kramer duke . Great sound and incredibly low action , but I couldn't get on with it playing finger style . Pick playing was great .
  24. My very first gig : Nov 1979 Quartz , girl , praying mantis at music machine . Mantis were really good . Girl didn't seem to be onstage for long but were very loud for me and in truth I didn't like them . Quartz were entertaining but the material wasn't there tbh .
  25. True skank From what I remember , Angelwitch and diamond head also . so many bands from that era . some of the best gigs were from sledgehammer . They were odd at the marquee, where the fans ended up sitting on the stage . As for Angelwitch , Kevin Riddles was the man who kept it altogether imho , with Kevin heyboirne not really saying much ..
