Thanks for the replies. I assume that Roto's and Elites DBE strings will fit? (I tend to always use 40-100 Roto's on my headed basses).

Is there any particular advantage in using double ball-end strings as against single ball end? It seems as though my recently acquired Status 2000 can use either, and using single ball-end would save me from keeping two types of string in stock.

Although I agree that it is all down to taste... I will give a +1 to the Squier VM Jazz, it is a lot of bass for the money and perfectly giggable.

The only problem I have ever had with my Status Basses was a bad earth on the jack socket, which caused intermittent cutting out. (Easy fix). I'd call Rob Green if I were you.

My first Bass was a 3001. It cost me £220 way back in 1984... used, but pretty much 'mint'. I gigged it for about 6 years, mainly in a blues band. Amazingly deep and very loud. The downside was 'neck dive' and overall weight.... But what an incredible sound! I sold it a few years ago for £450.... and now regret it.

I would certainly be into trying something 'different' in the way of cabs, but living out in the wilds of West Cornwall the opportunities are limited. I have to buy 'on-line' so tend to play it safe. My local music store doesn't even stock MarkBass amps because.... "Local folk won't buy those new fangled things". To some extent maybe most people go with what they know. However, I wouldn't say that I chose my current rig on looks.... it definately isn't pretty!

Hmmm..... Strange. My Trace 1x15 farts at lower volumes than my Aggie. And the Aggie seems to go much deeper.

Now that is UGLY (IMO).

Jeez! I briefly owned (and quickly sold) a Gibson (Was it a Ripper or a Grabber?) in the early '90s for about £200. How times, and prices have changed!!!

(To my ears)....

+1 for the 'suck it and see' brigade. ... Unless you opt to go for a cabs that were designed (hopefully?) to work together as a pair. i.e. Trace designed their 1x15 and 2x10 as a set. I assume (some) other manufacturers do likewise. A matching 2x10 should in theory add brightness to your 1x15.
