  1. I wouldn't presume to suggest what you should like. I have 19 basses, active and passive, 4 & 5 string, long and short scale, fretted and fretless, modern and traditional, d from every decade from the 60s to the 2020s. So I think I'm very open to different instruments. I've tried basses like the modern players. They look pretty, but I don't bond with them. My friends who have had early 60s fenders since the 60s/70s still gig them and I do prefer them. The two basses I find myself gigging most are the 1960 P reissue and the 1963 J reissue. Having played real ones, I'm pretty sure I would use them if I could.
  2. It makes me sad to see that YOB bass for me that I will never own 😫 At least I have my AVII.
  3. Hawkwind at Castell Roc again. Wonderful venue for an amazingly fluent and confident band.
  4. I noticed that your Gaelic pronunciation of 'Fender' is phonetically written as 'Rickenbacker'.
  5. Do you remember Nobles? Safly closing at the moment
  6. Sorry, I find that highly ambiguous. The arrows are drawn in the same plane as the truss rod and Allen key... so it's possible to interpret those arrows as meaning either direction. If you see it as looking into the end of the truss rod along the allen key, it suggests anti-clockwise as tighten.
  7. Yep, we were originals and the other bands probably were too.
  8. If you use this like I get 90p commission! https://amzn.to/4m67EGR
  9. I searched the British Newspaper Archive last night and found a tiny ad for a gig by my old band Two Moon Junction (named after a spicy movie) at the 'Newt and Cucumber', in 1993. The extraordinary thing is a pub putting on three live bands for a Monday Night. Things were different then.
  10. All started with a gulf of misunderstanding.
  11. I've seen several bassists in established bands using the cheap Lekato straps iff Amazon. I have two.
  12. Never come across that. I'm a member of two and used to rehearse regularly in a third. Perhsps it's a regional thing.
  13. Bought a Spectracomp from Simon, rapidly despatch and well packaged. Many thanks!
  14. Peter Noble now in Whitchurch and closing I got my first bass amp from the Llanishen store about 86.
  15. Quad electrostatic speakers!
  16. Music Exchange and Bass Centre in Birmingham, unused to go there with bandmates in the late 80s/early 90s.
  17. Last Thursday I saw Hawkwind at Chepstow Castle... epic. A local band had a great extended spot in the crowded beer garden of the pub next to the Castle for the 2 ½ hours before the doors opened. Onebof my bands had that spot booked for next Thursday with Terrorvision at the Castle. Our bl got a new job and neither of my other bands could make the afternoon setup time. 😭😭😭😭😭
  18. If Fender would release a Squier strap in the same designs, I would swap the straps on my Squiers.
  19. I took off the battery cover and screwed the four screws int the body recess until flush. Then I glued four neodymium magnets into the sfrew holes in the cover. Simples!
  20. I've found that joining an originals project is opening up some real learning for me. Another dep gig has got me learning several new tunes and transposing a few I know which is interesting! Finally, the odd jam or guest spot where you get thrown in at the deep end and have to come up with something with no prep is great ear training.
  21. Antigua. Edit: Actually, that's not irrational.
  22. New strawberry flavour! The Italians seem to he getting upset over Cheesy Pasta. They should show some respect, it's Crawley's signature dish!
