My mate had a very red P-bass with a white scratchplate when I was at Uni 81-84 and afterwards. From memory it wasn't as deep a red as that but would have been similar age or a year or three older.

I can vouch for Luthier's Warehouse bodies.

I made a Harley Benton kit as a lockdown project. It actually came out well, fitted withdecent strings, it sounded great. I ended up upgrading bits until only the neck and some screws were original. Then I got hold of a squier neck and built a second bass from the bits. The only weak points were the very soft body timber and the pickguard being very far from standard P-bass. Best bits were the excellent neck and, surprisingly, the pickup.

This, my basses have a 10:1 value ratio. The correlation between quality and value is weak. Between what I paid and quality is no existent, my most valuable bass was the on I paid the second smsllwst amount for, thd build quality is excellent but I have better sounding cheaper basses.

The question on which this thread is predicated is disturbingly like "when did you stop beating your wife?"

Apparently the delicious double bass on shipbuilding is by Mark Bedders.

Found some fun things. Wild World, until I realised the tab was the guitar line not the rather pedestrian bass. Cars. Then the original Robert Wyatt shipbuilding 😻

This one does an excellent job of 'Cars', despite its light construction. <edit> 30" does that count as short or medium?

f it's just for appearance, Stagg sell braided cables that are actually reasonable quality for not many £££. I have a couple for when I want a vintage vibe.

I need to sell a bass to raise funds and make room for a new couch.

This is an excellent reason to have multiple basses, some with flats and some with rounds.

I just use it as an open invitation to edit it and post more guff about flatwounds, lemon oil, heft and Pepe's legendary emissions.

It does make me wonder how many people know that 'ms' is short for 'mistress'.

Utterly unapologetic British Heavy Metal, delivered immaculately. Having seen Saxon a few weeks ago, their stage show is tremendous, their performance excellent, and they are genuinely even better than they were when I was a teenager clutching my copy of "Wheels of Steel".

My view is that if he's got a problem with women, we'll... he's got a problem. It does hint at 'incel' in the way it's put, but the whole ad seems to be defining what he wants by knocking what he doesn't like. That attitude would make me move one PDQ anyway. I can understand if some people feel uncomfortable in a mixed gender band - it can become like a family, and that is tricky for some people to handle. But in that case I'd expect them to express it better. That said, if we can have bands like the phenomenal Girlschool, then we shouldn't get upset about all male bands (any Boyzone fans?) But personally, I can't see the fuss. I want to be in bands with decent people who are competent musicians and want to pay the sort of music I enjoy. I don't give a fig about their gender etc. I have been in a band that had male/female vocalists and that gave us a very specific sound ( think Beautiful South) that would have been hard to achieve with MM of FF vocalists.
