  1. Which immediately made me think of The South Bank Show. I have the LP of Variations, but haven't played it in ages. Did find this on YT though. I forgot that the title sequence changed over the years.
  2. Oh FFS! Typo on my part. Which I won't correct as it lets me make the comment above. 😁
  3. That, and he has to play three more notes: A,B,C,CH,D,DD,E,FF,G. *Welsh joke, feel free to google or just move along.

  5. This series of podcasts is just great! Ian Anderson is always entertaining, Adam Clayton really interesting, Nick Mason a gentleman of the first order. Ramble all over the place, but hey, it's in the title 😁
  6. That's a different film. Backdraught, I think.
  7. I've been to @Owen's church. What you need to appreciate is that half the congregation sing the songs in English, and the other half in Welsh, at the same time. Now while this makes for an awesome sound in the sanctuary, it must be a nightmare for the musicians who also have to play in two languages at the same time.
  8. And that, my friend, is called GASlighting.
  9. I absolutely love the repurposing of the mains plug pins! That and @Dom in Dorset's idea of using earing studs as fretboard markers are just genius ideas.
  10. Having read the article, the first advertisement was this: Which pretty much sums it all up!
  11. Nurse, nurse! Another developing case of GAS! Bring over that large mallet and the bagpipes and hopefully we can cure it early.
  12. Was this intended for the "Bad Jokes" thread??
  13. How did "Crown him with many crowns' go, @LeftyP?
  14. If you are anywhere near a music shop then go and play a few things. @Bridgehouse is a gentleman, a scholar and I'm sure can be very persuasive, but the actual sound of the instrument in your hand counts for more than anything else. Even if you're not looking to buy then you get an idea of what you do and don't want. Not sure where in Oxfordshire you are or what shops are near you.
  15. Thanks. I like the look of the rotary switch rather than little toggle switches. But of course it's more expensive and looks very 1970s 😄
  16. Very nice. What is the rotary position switch for? I rather like that as it's a bit unusual.
  17. They need two bass players as the instruments aren't plugged in and the only sound is what is picked up by the vocal microphones 😉
  18. OK. This is the version we did in lockdown last year. Excuse my expression - I did ask the video editor to just crop to the instrument, but she didn't ☚ī¸
  19. If anyone fancies introducing a new song to their church which definitely has space for the bass player to improvise then you're very welcome to one of mine we introduced last year which was quite well received. The line I play on the recording is pretty simple (to make sure got it right), but others have put more runs and fills in.

    Hi

If TalkBass implement the same captcha the answer there will be "US" 😉 Must have arrived here with site upgrade at the end of last year.
  21. Replacement of essential broken gear is OK. Hope the new one arrives quickly!
  22. We still get a mix including CCW, old hymns and stuff like Graham Kendrick and Stuart Townend. Old hymns I enjoy as essentially the bass can play the melody and it's a finger workout. Some of Kendrik and Townend is hard work!
