  1. UPDATED 18th October '22 --‐--------------------------- Date now confirmed as: Saturday 22 April 2023. Location confirmed as: Radford Care, Prospect Street, Radford, Nottingham, NG7 5QE https://www.radfordcaregroup.org.uk/prospect-street/ Exact times and costs TBC. ‐-------- Alas there was no 2022 Midlands Bass Bash. 😢 @jebroad had organised the 2019 and 2021 events with style, but has moved to pastures new so the venue wasn't available for 2022 and the event didn't happen. For 2023 we need to get organised. Otherwise those folks down in Surrey and Somerset will be gloating! First we need a venue: Do people have preferences or suggestions? @petecarlton will look into a venue near Nottingham, I can look around the M42 east of Birmingham. Anyone else have a possible venue? As for dates: the last two were in May, and I seem to recall they being on the bank holiday weekend. A Saturday in April maybe? (Almost) all suggestions welcome
  2. Yep, good point. I posted here to close out on the question I posed in March, but we need a new thread.
  3. I've come to the conclusion that the hall is perfect, but the load in/out of 20 vehicles with n+1 instruments each will be a right pain. ☹️ As we have missed this year then I suggest planning for March/April/May next year. Does anyone know of a suitable venue, or shall I look for something just off the M42?
  4. I apologise. A bit 😁
  5. 🎵 "Well you can tell by the way I plane my curve I'm a luthier, no time for lurve. Music loud, and varnish warm My destiny since I was born And you can laugh, and you can say 'He hates routers anyway' (But I'm) Drillin' and a-chisellin, and a-sanding' and a-fillin' And Staying Alive, Staying Alive! Ah Ah Ah Ah Staying Ali-iiii-ive!" 🎵
  6. There's a song they do called "Oil my neck". I wish they wouldn't.
  7. An introduction to 8 and 12 string basses, for those of us whO had never heard of them before this thread. Like me! 😁
  8. Slurry and Buff: Slurry and Buff are a double act comprising a young farmer and a male model. Slurry plays the piano and pretends to be somewhat laviscious and drunk, Buff sings the songs wearing a tux but no shirt. Their rendition of "I've got a brand new combine harvester" has women of all ages go weak at the knees. Bookings now being taken for the Christmas season.
  9. They were a little before my time, so I only know some of the hits and hadn't ever listened properly. I hadn't realised how funny the lyrics are! Have to keep an eye out now.
  10. No insider knowledge at all! Having read this thread I thought I should listen to them again for the first time in years, and Spotify listed them as playing The Shepherds' Bush Empire in October Checking the website it seems that was cancelled. 😞
  11. Lovely bass. Third option: Make a cardboard print-out of the headstock, get it signed by CT's bass player when they are in London in a couple of weeks time, copy it for spares, and stick that on with blu-tak. I think that idea would amuse the band, and the fans, and definitely be a talking point.
  12. Do you think you will get any fewer gigs playing a 4 string look-a-like compared to the real thing or a replica? Do you think the fans who come will throw things at you if you play a 4 with a false headstock, or just be mightily impressed that you took the time to look the part? I would go with @3below's suggestion. And keep looking.
  13. I have a rota swap and a pass out, so I'll be there.
  14. This cheap trick could turn out rather costly, but I'm fascinated.
  15. The extreme top end may be unaffected. The rest will have to out up prices to cover costs, but as discretionary purchases they will be hit and sell fewer. Which is not good for any businesses.
  16. Welcome aboard! Most folks come for the chat and get sucked into the marketplace. Sounds like you're going to just dive right in. See you over there 👍
  17. Brain of Britain on Radio 4. I'm not going to ever appear on it, but at least the questions are comprehensible. Unlike Round Britain Quiz which is worse than The Times Crossword on steroids.
  18. Put the crumble in your face then fill your ears with bass.
  19. The band for Sunday's service at practice. I'm on FOH sound, my son is on bass, daughter on vocals, daughter-in-law on flute. The whole band sounds excellent.
  20. Thanks Andy. We need a way to make the equivalent from something organic, that breaks down rapidly in water. Not just for bass makers and model aeroplanes.
  21. I'll ask first: What, in this context, are micro-balloons?
  22. The only two acceptable answers to that question are "Wendslydale" and "Adadoo, by Black Lace"
  23. Welcome aboard!
