  1. Clearly @Dad3353 and I both need to grow up! 😁
  2. I bet you say that to all the girls 😉
  3. Yep. Whenever people have asked me "Why does your bass have 5 strings?", they never believe the answer "It's easier to play and I'm lazy", even though that is ultimately why I play 5. 😁
  4. I had never heard of Auerswald before this post. Having looked at their web site I can only conclude that they are inspired by Chris Foss's sci fi novel cover art from the '70s. This is better than being inspired by the illustrations in The Joy of Sex, which he also drew, but either way I would stick to a P bass.
  5. My guess would be that the low frequencies are sustained for longer because the bowing continuously excites the string, rather than decaying quickly away after the initial pluck.
  6. I completely agree, but it seems a lot of people dismiss him and Mullen as not that good, just because they aren't flash.
  7. Congratulations on getting the gig. I know people have a pop at Clayton's uncomplicated bass lines and Larry Mullen's straightforward drumming but they are the perfect rhythm section for that band and those songs. Lock in with the drummer, let the guys up front go wherever they need to, and everyone will have a great time. Nobody other than bass players and obsessives will even notice what bass you're using 😉 When and where are you playing?
  8. Solid Foundation were a dub reggae band in the late 1970's. Technical Noodling is a type of cooking pioneered by Heston Blumenthal. There's a YT video of the now ageing Rastafarians attempting to eat this stuff for the first time, it's called...

    Hi!

    Welcome aboard!
  10. What's the construction? Could it be cut into two 2s, or a 3 and an open sided 2?
  11. He must have had ear plugs in during that take. Surely it's impossible to be that arythmic when there is a band playing right next to you??
  12. One of our worship leaders is known for starting the song with the capo in the wrong place, maybe three times a year or so, which always gets a laugh from the band and the congregation. Apart from that he's a superb singer, great guitarist, very good drummer, writes songs AND is thoroughly decent bloke.
  13. This is so true. I have a set or Rotosounds on my number one 35" 5er at the moment and I don't like them as I can't get the intonation on the B properly. I tried them as they're UK made, but they don't work on this bass.
  14. I play 5 because it's easier and church bands are forever chamging keys, but if I ever have the spare money for a 73 Rick 4001s or an Ovation Magnum 1 then I won't complain there's a string missing. Surely you play what you like and what suits the music?
  15. I must resist the urge to donate £3.57 right at the last minute!
  16. If this is no longer for sale then you can change the title to add *Withdrawn* to the end.
  17. Tend to be a bit small, do you know of one that would accommodate 20 bassists plus gear?
  18. We absolutely must organise one. I'm happy to sort it out if you can give me the details of the venue we used last time. Early June makes sense this year, as the upstart NE Bash is planning to be in May. 😁
  19. Give us a twirl, @Clarky! More seriously- well done for the idea and for getting this going.
  20. I have played this at a couple of bashes. It's half the scale of my regular bass, but it is great to play and sounds good too. Great fun. I'm sorely tempted, especially as I am away a lot, but funds won't permit it at the moment. GLWTS!
  21. There ought to be an extra badge. A bit like "supporting member", but something like "Ten years gone and counting" As Andy says, this is a good place.
  22. I dithered about buying the Warwick Alien 5 string that was posted in the marketplace last week, and now it's sold. So I'm still in.
  23. That's wonderful! A proper drinking song, and the dancing just gets better as it goes along.
  24. I read this as that the action is too low for you to play slap, and that you want to raise the fretboard as part of the fix. Does that mean you're going to raise the bridge so you can get your plucking fingers under the strings, and then raise the fretboard correspondingly so the action there is still low? Won't that mean the strings bounce and buzz on the frets all the time as they are now vibrating vertically? Sorry if I'm being thick here, I don't play slap and I'm just trying to understand the problem. I'm also not a luthier so I can't help practically either, sorry. ☹️
  25. That's a most excellent idea!
