True actually, I don't think anyone was wearing a metal buckle now I think about it. Or everyone had their shirt hanging out.

They were truly stunning instruments, good man for bringing them along and allowing people to play. I didn't dare play them. Not because I have a metal belt, but because I couldn't possibly have done them justice. And you didn't look terrified, more "justifiably wary" 🙂

If you read the headline about events you will notice the last sentence: This is specifically to avoid buckle rash. Joking apart everyone is careful of everyone's instruments, and wandering back from the cakes to find someone you have never met playing your bass 10^8 times better than you can and thoroughly enjoying it is part of the fun.

Heading to church, to untangle the mess I left on stage yesterday, will reply when I get in later.

Thanks. I know pastes come with different W/m^2/⁰C ratings, so that was my main concern.

Evening all, I'm replacing a couple of damaged input sockets on a friend's Fender 85 amp, nice easy soldering job, no high voltages. As you can see from the photo, taken before further disassembly, there are two amp chips firmly bonded to a piece of aluminium. This is attached to another thicker block (which isn't visible), bolted through the aluminum back plate of the housing. (Which is labelled "warning gets hot in operation", or something like that). So the metal back plate, thicker block, and visible aluminum comprise the entire heat sink. I had to remove the back plate and block to get to the solder side of the circuit, and noted thin tranparent grease between each layer. I assume this was thermal paste, but all the paste I have used has been white, more like that visible on the chips. So the question is, is there a minimum spec or recommendation for thermal paste to use when reassembling? I have a little tube suitablebfor CPU heatsinks, but I think something better is required? This is an 85W amp. Many thanks, as ever.

Never fails to raise a smile that one. Only the gentle swaying of the cymbals convinces me they haven't sped the film up. 😁 And annoying as the others may be, they are still better drummers than I am.

Was that underappreciated when it came out?? One of the best albums ever, I practically wore my copy out! Not a duff track on it and you can hear the fun they are all having. Plus you get to hear one of the all time finest vocalists in pop - Roy Orbison - singing with one of the worst ever - Bob Dylan 😅

Camel - Stationary Traveller. Just superb Rick Wakeman - 1984. Wakeman doesn't like it. Tim Rice wrote the lyrics but his name is teenyweeny on the sleeve and I dont think he's a fan.But Chaka Khan's vocals on Robot Man and Julia are stunning. U2 - Songs of Innocence. Overshadowed by the iTunes delivery fiasco, but has some heartfelt songs.p Pink Floyd - The Final Cut. Not the CD issue with "When the tigers broke free" shoehorned into side one badly. But the rest of the album isn't bad, and The Gunner's Dream is one of those songs I wish I could write.
