1. Yes I go in there now and again. You must work in the pub trade (or related), no one could know all these pubs.... could they?
2. No, I'm on the opposite side of town, just near the Humber bridge. I used to teach near there though.
3.
See you down the Rampant Horse, OPE
? Unlikely you'll find me in that part of town - are you going there or something?
4. Hi Mick, My last test connecting the send and line in worked fine so I think the speakers are ok, something in the preamp at the end of the signal chain I think. If I can find a schematic then I think it'll be an easy fix.

6. Thanks for the replies, Just had another look at it. Cleaned the pots and sockets - no change. Lots of brown gunk inside it - yuck. Connecting the send and return makes no difference, but there is a line in and connecting the send to this and it seems to work. Can't crank it up at this time of night, but it suggests that the fault is in the preamp and somewhere around output gain and end of the preamp chain (line in appear to after this in the chain - which I think is a bit odd). Thanks John
7. Thanks for the link, it's a bit too far for me, but if I haven't traced (;-) ) the fault by tuesday I'll give them a ring and see if they have an schematics/service docs. Cheers John
8. Hi, I plugged in my old GP11 4x10 trace combo this afternoon and it's developed a problem. 90% of he volume has gone and it sounds very distorted. I had a quick look and without doing a full on diagnosis I suspect it's the power transistors that are failing. Anyone had a similar problem or have any thoughts. Thanks John
9. Hi, 38 and played guitar and bass for 22 years now - I'm very much into rock when I play guitar, but prefer things to be involved with more funky/soul/pop when playing bass. Mainly play fingerstyle, but will use a pick if the song dictates it and I keep goin back to slapping and trying to get my chops to a point where I could at least impress the sales assistants in the local music shops. First bass gig was in a band doing Punjabi music while at Uni, we mainly played Bollywood type "pop" songs and did a lot of weddings and functions. I didn't understand a word that was sung but it was a nice earner and a good laugh and taught me a lot about how to get through a gig and keep things rolling. Just joined a band playing older classics (lots of RnB) and looking forward to bass gigs, and will make a change from my guitar bands. I'm just about to (finally) get to grips with playing a 5 string and have just started working on getting my sight reading up to scratch. I usually play guitar or bass in the school musical (we hire in a band of all the peri music teachers - they take it quite serious), and it'll make life a lot easier if I can read the score instead of going away and learning everything. Cheers John P.
10. Very nice playing. She's really talented - to play that well and under the kind of spotlight that being in JB's band must bring, at her age is amazing.
11. Lol - if it was painted I could maybe see how someone might get mixed up, but this is just a basic (cheap maple?) wood neck - I can't imagine how you would think it had any graphite in it. It's some kind of cash convertors shop that are selling it, so that'll explain the lack of knowledge I guess.
12. Looks excellent. When I see basses that look as cool as this I start getting tempted to go for a single cut. Hope it sounds as good as it looks.

bbe opto stomp
I've been using mine only for about 6 months and I'd gree that it is, indeed, subtle which, in my book at least, is a recommendation. I have experieced no noise whatsoever from my rig as a result of uisng it and I've had nothing but positive comments from House Sound Engineers. I tend to have my Volume set at about 11.00 - 12.00 o'clock and my Compression at about 10 o'clock and it really tightens and evens thing up. I leave it on all the time and wouldn't want to be without it. FWIW, my signal chain is: Active Bass > BossTU2 > BBE OptoStomp > SansAmp BDDI > Amp.
Thanks for that - sounds like I should add one to the list. At approx £50 these might be a bit of a bargain. Thanks John
14. Gator - I'll have a look for them, it's look like a neat way of doing it (although maybe a bit bigger than I need). The opto stomp might be on the shopping if I don't find a multicomp in the next week or so. Cheers John
15.
Here's my little corner of FXdom... Chain is: BSW -> Micro Q-Tron -> BBS Opto Stomp -> ODB-3 -> GE7B -> Cool Cat 18v -> DOD Phaser -> Artec ADL2 -> Behringer DR100 -> TU-2 -> ART ZDirect DI
Nice setup you've got there Pete. Did you make the board yourself - I notice the power supplies must be underneath the pedals at the top. What do you think of the bbe opto stomp - I'm toying with getting one but they don't seem that many around compared to say aphex, ebs etc. Cheers John
16. I'm just about to fit some caster to my trace 4x10 - it's so heavy that I'll be tempted to leave it at a gig if I don't. Hopefully it won't affect the sound too much but I'll look out for some removeable casters just in case. Homer - let us know how you get on - I'll be very interested in the results.

bbe opto stomp

Hi, I'm just about to put a new pedal board together and had intended to get an ebs multicomp but I've just come across the BBE opto stomp. I've read some rave reviews and some saying it's too subtle and it's noisy. If anyone has one I'd appreciate your comments Thanks John

20. If I hadn't just bought another bass, I'd have had this - looks excellent!

EH nano pedals

Thanks guys, I guess I should track some down and give them a try before I dismiss the idea. Cheers John

EH nano pedals

Hi, I've just come across the EH nano pedals - has anyone tried them with bass? Just wondering what you think of the general quality of construction and sound... [EDIT: They seem to get very poor reviews on the net - so I guess I'll keep looking...] Thanks John
23. Sounds like a reasonable plan. What cabs are you using? Maybe someone has something similar and could throw in some suggestions for amps. (just had a look at your bandsite - looks like things are going well...MM endorsement too, very nice!)
24. I'd say go for it. Although lessons can be really helpful, I think you'll learn a great deal from playing with other musicians. Besides which, isn't being in a band the main (for most of us) reason for taking up bass in the first place... just be choosy about who you play with - if it doesn't feel right (for whatever reason - music, personalities etc) then move on, there are usually lots more bands than there are bassists.
25. Hi Rich - welcome aboard :-) The string is there in case you want to use it with an acoustic guitar (they often don't have 2 strap buttons). There should be a way of adjusting the length of the strap to get it to a reasonable position... if not then you have to start learning some Mark King lines.
