1. These basses are incredible. I have a Fiesta red one I received in April and I cannot put it down. Gigged it all over the place - hugely versatile. You can get a solid p-bass sound, J-bass, super J (when active) and a classic Victor Wooten sound with everything turned up to 10. Save yourself 20% (at least) on a 'new' one.
  2. Trades for 6 or 7 string basses are welcomed... ;-)
  3. **Price drop as cabinets are now sold** 250 ono. For Sale - my SWR rig - Recently bought a Hartke Hydrive setup so this needs to go Details; SWR 750x Head - 750 watts of power, loads of tonal variety, plus built-in octave and overdrive function (via footswtich). I've had this for less than 6 months (bought as a back-up to my Bass350 head) and it's in great condition. I have both a soft case (Gator 3u) or a hard case (5u) that can be included in the sale. Crushing volume, 2 killer effects, and pure SWR tone. The SWR 750x is the first upgrade to the highest-powered mono professional bass amplifier, the Bass 750. In addition to new chassis graphics--featuring the SWR logo badge in classic chrome--the 750x has inherited 2 popular effects circuits from the SWR Mo' Bass: SubWave (which produces a clean, pure and accurate octave effect) and Overdrive (which affects the pre-amp's 12AX7 tube to create overdrive that can be as subtle as a classic "flip top" or as nasty as a half stack). 750W RMS into 4 ohms, 850W into 2.6 ohms, 425W at 8 ohms Its pretty heavy (it's bass gear) so collection would be ideal; but I can post them at the buyer's expense. I have all the boxes and packaging from the Hartke gear I bought so that is an option. I live south of Reading - happy for you to pop over and take a listen if you like! Not really interested in trades.
  4. Music is subjective and we all have our favourites. Some people don't get Paul McCartney or Sting or Les Claypool or Flea or Steve Harris or Steve Lawson or whoever. There is no best or better. Some players are more technical, some are more knowledgeable but none of that has an effect on whether we connect to the music - or not. Some bass players really connect me to their music and some leave me cold. BUT I appreciate the art and ability that they all deliver. If you don't get Victor Wooten - I can't change your mind about that, in the same way that some people don't like broccoli. I can tell you all about the healthy properties and how it was made and cultivated. If you don't get it - you don't get it. But that's okay. Because plenty of people like broccoli and plenty of people like Victor. I studied with him at Music camp a couple of years ago, and met him a few times since - and he is a genuinely lovely, lovely human being. He is deeply, naturally musical and loves what he does. I don't connect to all his music, but I have my favourites. So, if you don't like it - that's cool. I know Victor would say the same thing. But you cannot deny that he is an incredible musician, and you cannot overlook the deep impact he has made on bass playing and you cannot dismiss the decades or practice, dedication and devotion that he has dedicated to the instrument.
  5.
For those that think you are on a wind up... Here is a slightly different take, although I still think Blue was talking about a well known Circus Monkey http://jacopastorius.com/life/
dude - I would never joke about Jaco!
  6.
Who on earth is 'Joco'?
John Francis Pastorius - had the nickname Jocko for much of his early life and many of his close friends called him Jocko. He took the name from a baseball coach who he admired. He later changed the spelling to Jaco but the original nickname stayed for some. Influence comes from all places - I love Stanley Clarke, James Jamerson, Steve Harris, Tal Wilkenfeld, Charles Mingus, Sid Vicious... and that's just bass players. Some guys died before I arrived - some started playing way after I started (and they are better able to express themselves than I am). BUT - blue, I am not going to argue whether you are right or wrong - because you are right! :-) Those are the guys that influenced you - and continue to influence you; and that's a pretty good list. You are not going to go far wrong with those legends to follow. The ONLY thing I will say to you is - don't dismiss any younger players and believe they have nothing to say. Same thing with saying 'all country music is bad'. There is something to learn from everything you see and hear - good or bad. BUT - (okay, this really is my last point) - if you are saying 'these are the greats - these are my heros, there will never be more' - that's also cool. Between Jaco and Chuck and Carole; they pretty much defined the genre. There isn't much more to say in that genre. But listen to Steve Lawson, Squarepusher, Divinity Roxx - they have something new to say. Music is a language, not a competition - and the game is still on. Peace and love.
  7. Remember - it's not all about the notes! Be early, be smart, be friendly. You are going to be spending a lot of time with these guys; you need to be friends (or at least tolerant colleagues.) Know your parts - keep it simple, no need to overplay. They'll know you're good when you make the song feel good. Leave some space for everyone else - let the drums breath, let the guitars sing, let the singer shine. We are a support function. Be supportive, and remember - we have 2 ears, one for you and one for everyone else. Smile and have fun - it's what we do!
  8. I'm not poking the fire here - but blue; can you explain the generational thing to me? For me, I am influenced by all the music I hear - whether it was recorded 100 years ago or yesterday. But your opinion is that it is only the music that is recorded during your lifetime, or formative years that has relevance. Seriously - I would like to understand your perspective.
  9. I grew up in the '80's listening to Iron Maiden and Steve Harris. Later I got into RHCP and Flea, then Rush and Geddy Lee. Much later I have started listening to Zep and JPJ - the The Beatles and Paul have always been an influence. In recent times I started listening to Victor Wooten, Janek Gwizdala and Scott Devine. I only discovered Jaco once he had already left the planet. Never really got into Mark King but love Stuart Hamm. I have no idea what the date a bass player was born has to do with me being influenced by them?
  10. Here's my take on it. Flea, a musician, a bass player - was invited to play a rendition of a famous tune to start a football game. He played what he felt in his heart, and heard with his ears. The tone he chose and the notes he chose were what he wanted to share. I am sorry that so many people didn't hear what he wanted to say. I am sorry that some people think his 'tone' was bad or wrong. I don't know which of the notes he played were planned, and which were improvised - I don't know whether he heard some of them as 'in' or some of them as 'out'. I do know he loves music, loves the bass and loves the Lakers - and I sure he loved what he did. I think he looked confident, focused and lost in the moment. That's all I ever want from music. Remember if you don't 'get' Miles Davis or One Direction or Flea - then perhaps you have something to learn. It's not the artist's duty to make you understand.
  11. Nearly a year since an update.... what's going on. Okay - here's the new baby.
  12.
anyway. I think the OP has one of the most beautiful basses I've seen in a long while, and it's kinda sad that even secondhand it would possibly be out my price reach unless I sold everything to buy one. But man does it look good
thanks man. It's a really incredible instrument. I had to sell a few to get it - but I can only play one at once!
  13.
Which are cool, but aren't quite there for me to say 'must have'. Their Olympic White was spot on, but am looking forward to seeing what other custom colours they go with. How do you find the preamp? Si
pre-amp is awesome. The sound variety is incredible. Passive with the front pickup sounds really growly and warm. Active with the back pickup on split coil is super jazz. Back pickup active is totally music man. Everything on = just awesome. I'll record a demo. :-)
  14.
This. Where would one find the price for one of these?
look on the Fodera website. It's around $4850 for the Monarch and $5850 for the Emperor I think.
  15.
Ah I saw Anthony Wellington post this . Very cool, I wouldn't hesitate buying another Fodera if the money was there, my MGS was wonderful. The Classic series are fantastic, and I just know they'll screw me over by releasing a Sonic Blue or Shoreline Gold colour in the future lol Si
they already do a Pelham blue and Charcoal Frost... :-)
  16.
It would look better reliced.
in 20 years or so I hope it does. :-) This bass is going to be played not pampered.
  17.
I actually don't like it. But I admire the guts it takes to order and wait for something like this. Of course I'm happy you love it. How come it was stuck in customs? I would of been panic stricken
just paperwork and blah blah I think. The logo is abalone and I think that has some extra import certificates...
  18.
Lovely looking bass. Glad it lives up to your expectations. How much did they sting you to get it in?
20% VAT + 3% import tax... but she's worth it.
  19. Chillin with my girl in the sun... :-)
  20.
Wow... Very tempted by the sunburst version of this. Glad it all arrived OK in the end
I was very close to buying the sunburst but in the end I figured - it's a Ferrari, it should be red!
