He's re-listed at £150 again, I'd say it's a pretty good price. I think the Grind was a direct replacement for this, so if they sell at £290-ish, this one seems OK. A lot better looking too, imo. J.

Cheap innuendo's always funny, especially when it's all in the filthy mind of the reader... :brow: I like the Prick - it's an interesting hybrid & I'm intrigued by what it would sound like - one noticeable thing here is that the pup placement isn't the same as either a P or a Rick, so that's going to affect its overall tone regardless of the pickups fitted. I'm inclined to think the body's been made specifically for this project - a P, or P derived design would have its pup route exactly between the scratchplate & bridge pickup. The more I look at this, the more I think I want to build one. :ph34r: As to where it came from, I found it on RickResource, which is 95% populated by our Colonial chums, so I assumed that's where it lives. I don't think that's a Grind - looks like A C4, from about 2002. The Grind has some extra contouring & black hardware & less of a Hippie Sandwich thing going on: I can be this pedantic because I've got a C5, identical but for a 5th string (really!). Mine's currently waiting patiently for a de-fret, but it's a lovely-looking, well-constructed bass very comfortable. Not very exciting-sounding, if I remember, and a bit heavy, but a bargain if it's cheap enough. The Ibby pups are interesting - they look like Gibson Mudbuckers (it's the same set as the EB-0 copy oif the same era) but in fact they're single coils. I can't speak for the big square neck 'un, but I've got the same sort as the bridge one fitted in my Frankenbugger Parts-Box Special: And it sounds great - I'd say a lot more like a real Rick pup than the "accurate" Hi-gain copy on my Kasuga. Admittedly the neck pup on the Frank [b]is[/b] a real Rickenbacker Hi-gain, so that probably sweetens it a bit, but the chrome bridge pup is very bright, full & loud - it measures about 11k so like a lot of old MIJ units, it ain't subtle. Rick copies have been selling well lately - probably due to RIC's own price hikes, and £500 is pretty good for an Ibby - because of the brand name these are the most sought-after & collectable Rick copies. This one does have a neck/body split he's stopped mentioning in his ads, without seeing it, there's no real way of knowing if it's an issue or not - but this sort of thing can be a symptom of neck/body join warping, which can result in an unalterably high action. J.

The same spot was used by various other buskers at other times so there's plainly a "circuit" they play. Highly recommend Barcelona, it's a fantastic city & I want to go back! J.

Saw him when I was in Barcelona a couple of years back - his hair's shorter but I think it's still the same bass! Very entertaining & dextrous playing. I even gave him money! Jon.

I played pretty much exclusively with a pick for about 20 years - my fingerstyle was rudimentary at best & never got used live. I decided a few years ago to make an effort to develop good dexterity with my fingers, and have now got to the point where I don't touch the pick at home and when gigging it's about 80% fingers. At practice last week I got inexplicable right-hand pains & had to resort to the pick for a lot of songs I wouldn't normally, and on Friday we were playing a long set so I made the decision to play a 100% plectrum gig, for the first time in about 4 years. What I realised was that about half of my band's songs sound better with plectrum bass, and despite having developed a pretty solid fingerstyle, I still play more confidently & accurately with a pick. There were a few songs where my parts simply don't work with the pick but on the whole it was an eye-opening & somewhat liberating experience. I'm going to be reintroducing the pick for a lot of songs from now on - & I think this is a clear demonstration of the validity of all techniques. Learn 'em all. Jon.
