I've used one of these on a recording session. Nice bass actually. Obviously I wouldn't play it live. Image, y'know
Ah, y' see, that's exactly why I would - and have - played it live! The downside's the spine-crushing weight & the fact it tends to squeal like a piggy at any sort of volume. Looks nice on the wall though. Eric - love the Seiwa, remember discussing it a bit when you got it. Interestingly I subsequently got a Washburn SB40 Vulture II, which has the same massive bridge. Whipped it off to give the bass a hose-down & there's the verification of the hardware manufacturer, at least: I must admit I'm cheating a tiny bit with the Talbo - while these originally appeared in about 1984, making them "vintage" enough for this thread, mine's a reissue from about 2000 - and that's only "vintage" on Ebay! Anyway - 1982 Washburn SB40 Vulture II, a bit more obscure than the near-identical Force 40, I suppose... J.
Nobody heard of em ?
It's not vintage Japanese & I don't think it's a particularly old bass. No, never heard of Ridgewood, likely a small importer brand, there are literally thousands of them. J. -
FOR SALE - TOKAI HARDPUNCHER (BLACK 1980'S)
Bassassin replied to greendredmusic's topic in Basses For Sale
Interesting, and possibly should be being discussed elsewhere, but - I don't scrupulously clean my basses that often, just a wipe over from time to time, however I wouldn't consider selling a bass that wasn't immaculately clean,. Personally I find it f*cking vile to buy an instrument & then have to spent hours scraping some disgusting sod's encrusted filth off it before I can stomach playing it. Maybe that's just me but it happens a lot. Jon. -
Aha, this is turning out like a game of cards!! "I'll match your Kasuga, through-neck, probably early 80's and raise you with this . . . . .!" You would need two Kasugas to beat my Electra! Erm, it's just occured to me, you already have one, don't you? P.S - Ref your revious post. . . . . If you only want an Odyssey for the name, I've got a couple of planks that I can scratch "Odyssey" on the head . . . that'll do you then!! Usual address??
Electra Outlaw obscure? I don't fink so, matey! So obscure it's famously played by an indisputable Prog titan, and inspires both heinous modifications in surviving examples and lookey-likey custom tributes? Naaah. I've only got the one Kasuga (and it's a not-very-obscure Rick copy) but I still win. And it was one of the scabby planks with "Odyseey" scratched on the top I was after - very generous of you to offer them both! Anyway - one form my own shed: J.

Cheers Paul, appreciate it! J.

The bridges are certainly not the same, but they are from different years & there are some obvious changes. The bridge on the 1st pic is a bent-tin style, while the other one's cast, probably brass. The heel ends of the necks are different too - one's rounded & the other's square. That's actually some lovely grain on the second pic - although as the ad stands, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. J. -
Updating my original post about my prog band Maya29 to say that we've just set up a Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Maya29/190452804313584 There are demo versions of all of the songs from the Fifth Sun concept piece (tracks 1-9) on the Band Profile tab - have a listen, let me know what you think & if you approve, click the "Like" button. Ta! Jon.
Here's a new game for this thread. You post an ebay listing, and other readers have to spot the wildly inaccurate "fact" mentioned in the listing. I'll start: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/bass-guitar-westone-...=item3a62ad3d64
Plenty of scope here - where do you want me to start? How about: there are at least two different basses in the photos. Hmm. J. -
That neck pocket to fit a standard 'Fender' heel?
Depends on your definition of "standard", Fender heels seem to be either 2 1/2" or 2 7/8". This is 63.5mm, which is 2 1/2". Not much of a shim though if it turns out to be the narrower width. J.
AND he used the same type of Steinberger bass as mine too!
That was a Hohner B2A, after he did his back in - I remember he later flogged it on Ebay! J.

Interesting bass! Never seen a Grant-branded one before but identical ones appear with the Columbus & Maya brands. Maya was a Japanese export brand (Columbus & Grant were UK importer names) used by Rokkomann, who allegedly had their own factory in Kobe. Do you know if the pups are proper 'buckers or single-coils in big cases? You can test this by seeing if a bit of metal will stick to the side without pole pieces. Trying hard not to be tempted by this. Jon.
Don't know why you are interested, Jon - these are lousy basses, impossible to play, no good live and you would not want one - so if you see another one, please let me know!! Cheers.
I've heard they're rubbish Eric, I only want one because the name sounds like a prog concept album... Of course, having two of the things cluttering the place up must be unbearable, I'd be doing my charitable duty by taking one off your hands! Anyway, I approve of the way this thread's heading, and it deserves an unidentified Kasuga through-neck, probably early 80s: And if anyone spots one of these, in the UK & at a sensible price... J.

Always liked them, bassist was a diehard vintage JapCrap player - Ibby Blazer & Roadster. Only ever saw them once, in a little tent at the first-ever T In The Park. Hopefully they'll see sense/get bored & get back together. Jon.
I'd say this is worth about £350. I made an offer of considerably less, which was turned down within seconds. If anyone is thinking of buying it, hopefully my lowball offer may have prodded the seller a few millimetres towards reality. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=260727468767
Ross - spotted that last night and didn't bother PMing you because of his eye-watering price. However - did you see what he paid for it in December? No idea why I never spotted that first time around, though. J. -
A bit gutted to admit I'm never going to do this justice: As with other stuff I'm selling, part of a project dating back around 7 years - that apparently being how long it takes for me to accept I'm never going to do something! This was imported from Brazil - BCers with very long memories might recall these. I'm not 100% about the woods, tbh - it was a while ago - but as far as I remember it's a 3-piece mahogany back and a Brazilian cherry 2-part matched top. Routing is for standard-sized J pups, the neck pocket is 63.5mm wide & 15mm deep. Weight is 4.23 lbs/1.91 kg. There are two minor & easily-fixed flaws, both of which were present when I got it - a dent on the top of the upper horn, maybe 8mm long: And a very small flake missing from the upper side of the neck pocket: The lacquer on the body is a sealing coat & intended to be sanded off prior to finishing - but it gives an impression of quite how stunning the wood will look when properly lacquered or oiled. Looking for £60 for this, plus £7 for UK postage. This is a ballpark (it's gotta go!) so PM me with offers! Presently I'd prefer PayPal payment (as I need some money in the account!), and the only trade I'd consider at the moment would be for a good lined (preferably factory) fretless Jazz neck. Jon.
