1.
Oh, obligatory pic:
And I think, the first pic of a maple Auntie Sue! Very nice, almost wish I'd grabbed one myself. Jon.
 2. Interesting - I'm not actually sure! I played bass for 3 years before I got in a proper band, playing its own songs & gigging, so I put bass first. But the reason I got a bass in the first place was because me & a bunch of underage schoolmates had a life-changing night, where we experienced live music & pints for the first time at the same time. As we staggered back home, we decided to start a band and decided who would play what. We never did actually try & play together, but two of us went on to play in gigging bands. Jon.
 3. There were Korean (probably) made versions, which I assume this one is. Seller's a BCer, Steve Rickwood. You could ask him! Jon.
 4. Party like it's 1985: You know what it is... Jon. Edit: 'Kinell - snap! I thought I was the only person with sufficiently little taste to buy a b/w one!

Also, a Quantum bass from the same seller. Some one lend me £600 will yer?
These two are being sold by our very own Steve Rickwood - who I've known since he was just a skinny lad! If I could afford them I'd have 'em off him! J.
 6.
Good price for a Thunder 1A in London Gumtree - £65! Someone snap this up! (It's not mine, honest!)
Oh, definitely would, if he was 397-ish miles closer. Unless he's missed a nought off the end. J.
 7.
Your obviously a Rush fan to pick up on this.
I've been called worse! Funnily when I first heard Rush (about 1980) I assumed he was a pick player - it took until I actually saw them to suss that he wasn't! I first noticed the one-finger thing when the Exit Stage Left vid was released - there's a brief slow motion clip focusing on his right hand clearly playing up/down strokes with the index finger. I'd guess his "flamenco bass" technique evolved from that. J.
 8. Geddy Lee's been doing this since what - 1974? Jon.
 9.
Where did you find that? And if you don't mind me asking how much was it? I've been looking for one (or an Affirma 5-string) for ages. If you find that it's not for you please let me know, as I'll be interested in buying it.
If Wayne bonds with it, there's a slightly ambitiously-priced blue one on the Bay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ibanez-EDA-905-Piezo...s-/120684194910 J.
 10. Ain't life tragic? Reduced to selling my body... J.
 11. Some better pics of the pups: As you can see, very nicely put-together - fully potted & sealed, cloth-screened earth lead & the wires are full 30cm & haven't been trimmed. Standard bridge & neck Jazz sizes, reading 6.42k and 6.74k Twenty quid to you, Squire, or make us an offer. J.
 12.
Gherson jb deluxe! Made for Italian market ebay link also, found this link JB deluxe
Made in Italy by real live Italians! Actually, they're probably dead by now... This one's just up the road from me & I had toyed with the idea of dropping £75 on it if it didn't get any other bids. Doubt I will though. Cheers for the other link, good to see some close-ups. Don't think the pups are original, if they are they must've had badly-trained rodents doing the routing. Really don't like the bodge-job holding the bridge pup in - makes you wonder what sort of mess you'd find where the proper screwholes should be. Ghersons are a bit like buses - haven't seen one for months and then all of a sudden: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=180624624425 Dodgy neck on this one (although a couple of washers under the truss nut might sort it out) so you might have to buy both to get a player! J.
 13. Well, the listing's been pulled now - I think he might have sussed he'd been rumbled, and even tracked this discussion down. It's anyone's guess what the parts actually were, but the body (and probably the neck) is a cheap copy of indeterminate age - plywood or butcher block at best, the black oversprays on the contours are always a giveaway, you never see these on a solid timber body. The neck has a Gibson-type nut, glued-on fretboard and I'd speculate the odd positioning of the tuners is because it's originally had small holes (for the enclosed tuners common on 70s/80s Jap & Korean low-ends) which have been ineptly enlarged. You'll notice the tuners are all spaced differently as a result. As I said, a filthy old piece of burnt plywood junk, not worth more than £50. And if you'd like to discuss it, Mr "Prestigeguitars", that would be an interesting conversation. J.
 14.
That's why I wasn't concerned about your threats to steal mine - you'll never outrun me
I wouldn't get too cocky - it's all about stamina, you'll only be able to sprint so far dragging that thing. And it will look great on my wall. Until the weight pulls the wall down. J.
 15. Filthy old piece of plywood junk that's been on fire? £450? Bargain! Sometimes I really want to beat these idiots to death with the rubbish they sell. And I can't work out if this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VINTAGE-FENDER-FULLE...2-/200575448089 ...is wilful bullsh!t or just pig-ignorance. The Japanese factories must have bought several million "Fullerton Red Bottom" J pups because you find these in 90% of JapCrap Js & P/Js. I've got half a dozen of the bloody things sitting in a drawer. Jon.
 16.
Nice bass?
Nice player, typical skinny Ibby neck, very well-balanced & weighs bugger-all. Basically though, they sound as odd as they look. The combination of piezo & conventional pups is downright weird, the piezo can take some fine-tuning to get it balanced & working properly - but this should already be done on yours. People may, on occasion, point and laugh. J.
 17. EDA905 in Ghastly Gay Orange? Looks like you're copying me, sunshine: You want to be careful - next thing you know you'll be upping sticks, moving to Edinburgh & playing prog... Jon.
 18.
Does anyone know anything about Oakland basses? One here for sale.
I know the brand - Oaklands appear on the Japanese home market, and do turn up over here from time to time. They're often quite derivative of Ibanez original designs (Blazer copies are quite common) although the ones I've seen aren't Fujigen - or Matsumoku for that matter. This one certainly has an Ibby look - particularly the headstock & trc. Looks quite tidy but I'd want a better look than those pics before I'd drop £150+ on it. Being neck-through & stripy doesn't make it a Matsumoku. I wonder if Ebay thickies will ever work that out? J.
 19. I built a perspex Precision: Tips the scales at 14lbs, kills my back & I can barely manage one song with it. Heaviest bass I can (mostly) comfortably gig with is my old JapCrap Jazzer which is a shade under 10lbs but I'm gravitating towards lighter planks - it's only a matter of time before my Hohner B2A becomes my permanent gigging bass instead of a backup! Anyone want to buy an 11lb Peavey T-40? Jon.
 20. That Aria looks quite tidy for £80. No idea about the "thinner lead" thing, ask him to elaborate! J.
 21.
Let's all make offers of £34.56...... He has a Westbury guitar for sale at an even more ridiculous price too.
Bloody hell - what a wrecked piece of crap. Am I being spectacularly ignorant in not having a clue who "The Sound" or Adrian Borland are/were? I presume this is why he thinks this garbage should be changing hands for crazy money. J.
 22. Wesley. You'd need a 24-fret neck for that. Jon.
 23. Westone Thunder 1-A, Limited Edition, hand-crafted from solid gold and lacquered with angels' tears. Presumably. J
