Due to many strings threads I thought I would post this to help people find what they are looking for, scroll down to find the table: http://www.bassplayer.com/story.asp?sectio...;storycode=4037 Tim
Thanks Tim Only just seen this but it's very useful.. There's so much choice it's almost too much choice. Nik
 2.
Met Bernie at the Guitar Show, nice bloke. Makes a decent bass or too, so Ive heard!!!
+1 Yep -he's a great bloke and his basses are excellent..
 3.
Yes there is room enough outside to park and unload without blocking the road. It is the ground level but there are a couple of steps up. See you there.
Ok - thanks! It's great having our own Basschat reconnaissance team
 4.
Top man Dave, excellent photo guide, i will probably still get lost, ;-)
+1 Thanks Dave...really helpful! Just wondering two things, (i) is there a space outside where we can unload our gear before parking up for the day and (ii) is the studio on the ground floor? See you there, Nik
 5.
One of my earliest influences, & still one of my favourite players. Great melodic sense, scarily precise right-hand (plectrum) technique, and those basslines - Halo Of Flies, Billion $ Babies, Blue Turk, Gutter Cat... Genius. Jon.
+1 again...
 6.
+1 nearly all of the above. Sound good enough, last forever, cheap as chips. Just the name isn't fashionable? Goodness knows why, it's not as if they brought out the "Jade Goody Signature Model" is it Hamster
LOL Might just happen now you've mentioned it....
 7.
aah man i always liked danni
Have to agree with that about Danni, but Chris, this new bass really does have the 'mojo'!! Congratulations! Still on for the naming ceremony on Saturday?? Beer not champagne I hasten to add... Nik
 8. I still have a Peavey Mark IV series amp and though it's older, less compact and a bit noisy, I much prefer the e.q on it to the e.q. on my Hartke HA3500.. IMHO, it's not just about best value or amp snobbery etc, it's also about what your 'ears' prefer. Nik
 9.
Brilliant and under rated - just listen to the Schools Out album.
+1 to that! DD was one of my earliest bass influences. He was also a major contributor to the Alice Cooper band's songwriting and as you say, the School's Out album is almost built around his bass lines! Great to see him getting some recognition.. Nik
 10. T- Minus 3 days and counting!!! So, who's actually going on Saturday and what is everyone bringing? I'm bringing: Wal Pro2e BC Rich Eagle MM Sub 5 and probably my Hartke HA 3500 + GK 2x10... Nik
 11. Hi Rufus Welcome to Basschat... By the way, we're not called oldies anymore.. the new phrase is 'midolescent'.. Look at this from Time magazine this week: "...Ralph and Wanda made their debut in 1977, when Ralph heard of several new books about the challenge of middle age. (Stanley, the friend who, as part of his "midolescent" crisis, ran off in that episode with a meter maid, makes a reappearance in this week's dialogue.) " Sounds pretty good to me! Maybe we're a new breed called 'Bassus Midolescentus' ! Nik
 12.
Picked up the new bass this evening. '73 Precision in sunburst with JPUP added at the bridge (and added a very long time ago judging by the thumb wear in the finish just above it). To my eyes the sexiest bass I've seen in years and the best possible combination of vintage mojo with the right PUP combination. Haven't played it much so can't reort so far, but looking forward to setting it up with some nice flats tomorrow. Pics soon folks Pink PBass above still for sale. Offers? Chris
Sounds great Chris - look forward to seeing her...Will there be an official naming ceremony, with champagne etc?
 13.
Yes and yes.
Hi Dave That's cool - will PM you about the leads and look forward to seeing you Saturday! Nik P.S. Stingrayfan - would love to see your new G&L; always fanced a listen/play of one but never had the opportunity...
 14.
Thanks silverfoxnik, I like the futuristic vibe too. I only started playing fretless 2 years ago, but now I only use fretted bass on about a quarter of the songs my band plays. For me there's something more "tactile" and expressive about playing without frets. Give it a go. You can get a Squire VMF Jazz for around £200 which is an excellent bass to try it out on. With my two Gus basses I've got most of my low-end options covered: And of course I could always add a bit of guitar with my Gus G1 Vibrato!
That's a serious looking collection!! The design is very clever too; like the input at the back.. Yep, I know I should have a go at fretless and to hear that it's become you main instrument after just 2 years is amazing.. Food for thought, definitely.. Nik
 15.
I've finally got the recently acquired Lakland Daryll Jones 4-string ready for action. New scratchplate, new strings, J-Retro and she's ready to gig.
Beautiful! Are you bringing her to the Bash on Saturday - would love to hear how she sounds? Nik P.S. any chance of ordering some leads and collecting Saturday.....??
 16. Hi Wildus What model is that, doesn't look familiar? Nice looking bass though - shame I'm not a lefty. Good luck with the sale! Nik
 17.
Oly White Precision sold pending payment Chris
That's good news Chris - I was beginning to think that 'The Beedster' was losing his touch! Selling wise that, is, not playing.....
 18.
Hi, I've recently purchased a warwick dirty blonde, and it's a great bass, just not what I'm after. I've been playing a Yamaha TRB 5 for years now, and should probably have stuck with that, but was seduced by the rarity and kudos of the Warwick. Anyway I decided to get rid of the Warick and try to get hold of a Yamaha TRB5PII (the really nice one with the thru neck and piezos). However I can't find one for sale anywhere, except imports at silly money. I really like the punchy and versatile sound. Can anyone suggest any alternatives to the TRB 5PII ? I'm worried that if i go of fbass shopping again I'll be seduced by another bass that isn't right for me. I reckon I'd be prepared to spend around £1300 Thanks in advance.
Hi and welcome to Basschat! With £1300 to spend you've got a pretty wide choice for a 5 string, including new or s/h. Here's a few off the top of my head: MM5 (if you could find one s/h with piezo and twin p/ups) Sandberg (choice of different style 5 string basses..) Shuker (great custom built UK basses) Overwater (another great UK make) Sei Sadowsky (there's a nice on for sale here on this forum) Bacchus (again, a nice one for sale here) Atelier Jazz 5 (as above) Lakland Mike Tobias Designs (MTD) Ken Smith Designs (KSD) Fender Marcus Miller 5 I'm sure there's lots of others people here will recommend.. Only advice I can give you is to try out as many as you can before buying, something that could save a lot of time and money in the long run. Good luck ! Nik
 19.
Got my mojo working Nik! Cheers, moved a step closer today so hopefully all will be revealed soon. Shockwave old mate, apologies for the lack of trades, you know BC though, any bass you want you'll eventually get one day Cheers Chris
"you know BC though, any bass you want you'll eventually get one day " That is definitely true, I hope/think ???? See you next week, Nik
 20.
The only 2 guitars of my collection that I play with on a regular basis is a Jaydee supernatural Mark King that I have had since 85 and a 92 gibson thunderbird. The jaydee is better than any other guitar I have played and makes the T bird feel like a plank !
Great british bass making at it's finest! Never owned one myself but played a couple at various times... Outstanding attention to detal and superbly built! Wasn't it Mark King who helped put them on the international map, so to speak? Nik
 21.
BF's hot on the trail on this one Nik! If it works out I may have something quite impressive - in fact the bass I've been after for years - at the SE Bash next week. Certainly I'm gonna have to sell pretty much everything else I own bass-wise (and possibly the GF) to pay for it, but I think it'll be worth it. It'll be sad to lose Kylie, she's a great bass and a really versatile gigger, but, perhaps it's a bit like the Stiffler's Mum scenario in American Pie, the young 'uns might look sweet but the old 'uns have that something special Cheers Chris
Mmm.. Intriguing?? You're definitely the 'international bass man of mystery' Chris! Looking forward to next week even more now because of this. Glad all's well though. See you next week! Nik
 22.
Having to sell both these, and pretty quick. One I've only had for a week, the other somewhat longer. I hope Neil (artisan) will forgive me for selling what was until recently his pink bass and for also using his pics. I need to raise some cash quite quickly so I am selling both at what are, IMHO, bloody good prices. I'll have to ebay them at BIN in a couple of days if they dont sell here, so if you're interested, let me know! First is a 1996 USA Olympic White Precision upgraded with BADASS III (string through) and SD Basslines P and J PUPS. Lovely maple board. It's been my favourite bass for a good while. Currently strung with TI flats it's sweet as and does everything from funky growl to Motown thump. Pretty much perfect condition. Sold with hard case. Will also provide original bridge. I can also let you have it with tort or white guards as in the different pics below. Note: it's NOT the black one! £550 ovno. Second is a Fender Japan Pink Precision. Not had it long enough to gig but it seems to be everything you'd expect an MIJ to be. Beautiful colour, really beautiful. Will also be sold in a hard case. £280 (same as Neil was asking for it plus £30 for the case). A few dinks but pretty good condition overall. I'd be happier with collection/delivery/meeting than postage. No trades I'm afraid. I'm also selling a Roland Cube 100 for £175 in the amps section Cheers Chris
Very suprised to see this Chris - 'Kylie' up for sale!! Hope everything's alright mate? Two great looking basses so should shift pretty quickly I would have thought, especially 'Kylie'. Nik
 23. An alternative option is to go via the Musician's Union and get your first £1000 worth of gear insured free with Hencilla Canworth who've been around for as long as I can remember (020 8686 5050 / http://www.hencilla.co.uk/main.asp?pid=3). Admittedly, it costs approx £125 to join the MU but as well as the free £1k of equipment insurance you also get free Public Liability Insurance of up to £10 Million which, in the present 'claim culture' world we live in (where everyone wants to make a claim against someone or something for a fast buck), is well worth having. 24.
Afraid I'm not goona be able to make it - real shame.
That's a real shame! We must get some of the West Sussex BC members together at some point.... Nik
 25.
Ha ha ha-a long time no see,had a lot to do,a lot of searching for the forum too Ok,some of you will know me from the old forum,my name is Lorne from Plymouth,Devon-I've been playing B.C.Rich basses for over 20 years now Since the last forum,I have managed to dig a Koi pond, get back a 1979 Bich 8 string that I sold in 1992-lost my Yamaha John Myung in the process, but worth it I still work on the Unofficial B.C.Rich serial number archive,I am also a Admin on the BC Rich Players forum Oh and we had a new baby boy 2 months ago Nice to be back-now upset me and show me beautiful Sei Original basses-the only thing I've considdered as Better than a handmade BCR
Hi Lorne Welcome back and congratulations on the birth of your son!
