Alright there, I am skint due to my recent wedding and I need fast cash hence: GK1001RB - £300 EBS NEO 2*12 - £300 pictures to follow shortly cheers Mark
Hi Mark Welcome to Basschat! PM sent re the EBS. Where abouts are you based and what condition is it in? Cheers Nik
 2.
Naughty naughty, music "sharing" is theft!
Very true! I shall retract that statement forthwith, etc, etc, etc and shall take many trips to local charity shops and use Ebay extensively to research and to assemble all aforementioned tracks - preferably on vinyl. Nik
 3. Hi Folks, That's amazing - as I suspected, there are absolutely loads! Looks like I'm going to be busy on Limewire for a while checking these out. Should be good fun and will hopefully teach me a trick or two.. Nik
 4. Hi Folks Been thinking about songs that have a bass solo or a featured bass part in them and got to wondering how many there might be. I'm not so much thinking here of your virtuoso Jaco/Victor Wooten type stuff, but more about songs that allow the bass to come to the fore. Here's a few I can think of straight off the top of my head: 'I'm Not in Love' 10cc My Generation The Who Song for Europe Roxy Music And maybe it's arguable that songs like 'Good Times' and 'Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick' are three and a half minute bass solos anyway...But, whatever your definition, there must be loads of songs out there that have a spot where the bass and/or bass player gets the spotlight for once? So, any more you can add to the list anyone....? Nik

 6.
Yeah I've managed to do the same if that makes you feel any better bro. Only outside our rehersal unit with my old band. I had to call out the AA as well, but I didn't have a mobile on me so had to walk about a mile to the nearest pay phone!! Played with Anthrax up in Manchester a few years back, our opening song and I wasn't even plugged in! Probably the worst gig of my entire life! Still, gotta laugh eh!
Hi, It certainly does make me feel better, thanks! There's some really funny stories here which I've had a good chuckle over! Main thing is that everyone has lived to tell the tale and had a good laugh about it afterwards ! Thanks Nik P.S. By the way, what an honest lot us bassists are...
 7.
Here's a sound sample thingy - click the green "play" button a couple of times, then twiddle the switches as you wish. In Dutch, but easy enough to work out.
That's really cool; be good if you could get one for lots of different basses so you could easily hear how they sound.
 8. Hi Folks, Last Sunday I successfully managed to lock my keys, phone and all my gear into my car whilst outside our singer's house, just as we were about to leave for a gig 30 miles away. One hour later, after failing in that time to break in to my own car, we left in the singer's wife's car, borrowed a bass on the way, got to the gig half-hour late, plugged in direct to the PA and managed to do the gig! Played for 2 hours and endured many a joke about cars and keys, but the crowd loved it and all was OK in the end.. ..Meanwhile, back at my car, the AA turned up (approx 1 hour late) and broke into my car in 10 seconds flat, which meant I managed to rescue my gear and make it home...albeit somewhat embarrassed!! So now I'm wondering what's the worst, most stupid or most embarrassing thing that you've ever done while out gigging?? Hopefully, your stories might help me feel just a tad less of an idiot. Nik
 9.
Thanks guys. I like the idea that i can get a P-bass sound out of it as i would love a 5 string P-bass.
My thoughts exactly Dave! Like you, I've always wanted a P-Bass tone from a 5-string but getting a boutique model like a Valenti or Shuker for example, seems to be really expensive. For that and other reasons, I've had an interest in one of these L2500s for quite a while now and, if money was no object, then a USA version would probably be very nice. If you do get to try one out, please let us know what you think of it, thanks. Nik
 10.
This is great! I'm currently investigating the whole DIY recording and distribution approach - it looks like avenues like CDbaby and iTunes could work quite well and without the traditional industry approach where numerous entities take a cut, prove relatively lucrative. Once this first EP is finished I will get it out there and see what happens! Alex
I don't think there's ever been a better time in terms of a DIY approach, for artists who have the wherewithall to produce and release their own music, so good on you Alex for doing just that! Copyright issues, marketing & promotion, contracts and negotiation all still apply in the 'DIY world' of course, just as they do if you go through the traditional infrastructure of huge record labels etc. But the internet and an audience that actually wants to access and buy music in a totally different way from even 5 years ago, makes the potential and opportunities available to musicians really exciting! Good luck with it... Nik
http://www.frozencloudmusic.com/~chrishiscocks/24%201.mp3 Here is a quick fairly shabby sample - no mastering or anything but it gives you some idea of the raw sound of the bass! Cheerz ped
Very cool looking bass Ped and a really deep phat tone! Good price too..
 12.
Here is a song I did with a bit of delay and those 2 flangers see if that is spacey enough for you. http://myselfalone.com/tayste2000/NoiseJam.mp3 I have a few others such as the Akai Inteliphase but it's not uploaded yet. Hope this helps
That's a great piece of music! Reminds me of the instrumental tracks on Bowie's 'Low' album.
 13.
sexy i likes it G
+1 Looks great - well done folks! That's a cool font, whatever it is.... Nik
 14.
Excellent! Alex
Cheers Alex - really appreciate the info and the help!
 15. Great thread and some excellent information! Should anyone here be in a situation where they are involved in a musical project that involves having to sign any kind of deal, IMHO, having a good relationship with a music business lawyer that you trust is really important and can help to both advance and protect your career.
 16.
I'd say we've got all bases (or should that be basses?) covered between us there......... I'm sure we could spend hours over several beers disscussing the subtle nuances of each type??????
+1 on that Bob It'd be good to have that beer (or beers) and chew the fat if we make it to the next Basschat Bash, whenever that is? Nik
 17. Just a quick update folks.. I did a gig last night with my GK 2x10 but instead of putting it flat on the floor as per normal, I placed it in the vertical position mentioned here and it was really good! I am thinking about getting another one now so I can stack them as everyone has suggested. Amazing what you learn on this forum - thanks! Nik
 18.
Nik, I'm finally on board with your point. Several I would guess based around string and 'plucking' arrangements...... 1. Big fat Thwump produced by flatties on fretless or maple fretted necks. (like electric double bass 60's Motown) 2. Zingy roundwound precise tone by modern basses and pups (Barts etc) your Flea and Jaco and Mark King kinda sound. 3. The fast attack pick generated sound (predominantly roundwounds on a Por J bass, or in the metal genre ESP or Ibanez) largely used in modern rock of various guises. 4. The Funky slap sound used in carwash funk and reggae...... (Bootsy) I'm sure I'll get beaten from pillar to post for this selection, but my guess is that broadly we all try to emulate one of these sounds most of the time.
Hi Bob I didn't explain myself properly when I posted this thread, sorry! Your suggestions seem pretty good to me, though personally, I've never been a fan of No.2, the 'Zingy roundwound modern tones, that have a very hi-fi tone (not a fan of Bartolinis either come to think of it) but it's a sound that works for lots of bassists. My suggestions were: 1) Classic P-Bass (single pick up) - can be used on almost anything 2) Classic J-Bass (2 single coils) - can be used on almost anything 3) Funky Bridge pick up (think MM, J-Bass bridge p/up) - great for funk, jazz etc 4) Rickenbacker 'clang' - great for rock, new wave, indie etc 5) The flatwound sound - 60's soul, Jazz, French pop... So we're not that far apart I'd say?? Nik
 19.
On nearly every bass I've ever owned, I sound like me! The only times that I sound different are with my 51 reissue precision and mudbucker '73 Tele Bass. I've never been able to work out if it is that my style makes me sound like me on anything I touch or that as soon as I pick up a bass I automatically try to make it sound like my sound. hell, i couldn't even get a Rick to sound like a Rick - I sounded like me again. Basses that I have owned that other famous users use: Modulus Flea Bass - I sound like me Fender Geddy Lee - me again Rickenbacker 4003 - you guessed it, I sound like me I first discovered this years ago with a guitarist friend who used to have a really cheap guitar and then saved up enough for something good (at the time) it was a Charvel or something - he still sounded the same as well. This may not be a bad thing - at least I'm not trying to sound like anyone else
I think it's a really good thing to have your own sound! Hopefully, people will say that about the way I play too. But that kind of brings me back to my point in the first place; if we all sound like ourselves, then just how many really useable and distinct bass tones are there? Or is that confusing playing style with the way a bass sounds...
 20.
Currently planning on it - I asked t'other half for permission ages ago, so should be good to go. I'll bring my rig which includes a Tech 2 x 12 with speakers verticaly stacked.
OK; cool! That'd be brilliant to see/hear in action if you can make it? Hope to see you then... Nik
 21.
silverfoxnik, Are you coming to the South East bash next month?
Certainly am Bassbloke! Looking forward to it.....You going to be there?
 22.
Pete Townsend, Roger Daltry, Keith Moon, John Entwistle.
WHO? Well, someone had to say it.....
 23.
I got the OLP on ebay for £110. Its a very nice bass for the money. I don't play 5 sting a lot as I tend to find the string spacing too narrow on most 5 strings, but this one does feel comfortable. Its passive, and hasn't got the clout of a real Musicman, but its a decent bass. If I was buying one new, I would probably pay the bit extra for the Tony Levin signature and get active elctronics.
That's a bargain!
 24. Fabulous! Thanks for the post & the link G. It'll be watched many, many times, that's for sure. Nik
 25.
Bill Well your right about Epifani as my UL212 is the same size as the UL410. Nik I have three gigs in Cornwall this weekend playing Haven holiday camps. your welcome to come along if its close to you. Ill be using my Sa450 and UL212.
Hi Dave Thanks for the offer - that would have been great. But I live in Littlehampton about 20 miles west of Brighton so not possible I'm afraid! Gonzo - loved this: "Just tell the keyboard player to stick all his parts into a sequencer, get the drummer to play to a click and buy 2 8x10s Sorted." Thanks for that feedback and the pic RussFM! And Alex, I am amazed at your knowledge of speaker design..simply stunning! Mind you, isn't that the great thing about this forum, there's so much good advice, knowledge and help available, it's bleedin' brilliant! Now..where was I; a 212 or vertically stacked 210s..or maybe I should go for a 115??? Nik
