*** Now SOLD *** Hi Folks, This is a bit of a feeler to be honest, but I'm thinking of moving on this fabulous Tokai Hardpuncher PB80 GS which, according to the online databases, was a 1979 / 1980 model. These 'lawsuit' era Tokai P Basses are very highly regarded, as one quote I found on Talkbass said: "... They were as good as the actual Fenders of that era, but more consistent. A Seventies Tokai is a legit vintage bass." There's a lot of info out there on them for anyone interested: https://www.tokaiforum.com/threads/the-earliest-hard-puncher-basses.26472/page-2 Price I'd like £475 or near offer for it, and am not looking for trades at this time. Specs/Condition etc Ash 1-piece body, maple neck, maple fingerboard and it's pretty much all 'stock' apart from what looks like a replacement, Gotoh style bridge. As can be seen in the photos, it's most definitely had a life and been very well used, so it's not a case queen. That said, the electrics need a bit of a clean and it could do with a restring... But, as it is, it plays really well; the frets/fingerboard are in good condition, the truss rod works as it should, and it sounds great - i.e., warm, fat, funky, rocky P bass tones and that nice zingy 'snap' you get from a maple neck! ! 😁 Which brings me to it's weight ; according to my fairly un-scientific weighing method, it's 4.5 kg or 9.9 lbs. Not light I know, but as I've always liked ash-bodied basses, that sort of weight in a bass has never troubled me... YMMV of course. Provenance One additional point of interest, this used to belong to the late, and much-missed, Nick Smith, aka 'Doctor_Bass', and as such, it has more than a little sentimental value to me. Nick was the last person to set it up by the way. Reason for sale But I'm not really using it due to having too many other basses - a few of which get used all the time - hence why listing it here for sale. It's a player's bass, and really does need to used... Collection etc Happy for anyone interested to come and test it out here in Potton, Central East Bedfordshire. Tea/coffee /Basschat chat in plentiful supply.. For many reasons, I do not want to post this. But in terms of meeting up, I'd be happy to arrange something reasonably local to me (within 30-40 miles), or somewhere in and around North West London where I work. Whatever - I'm sure something can be worked out if the need arises. Any questions, please ask, and thanks for looking as always. 👍 Cheers Nik

Hi Folks, Due to the recent acquisition of a Mesa Diesel 115, this fantastic sounding Greenboy fEARful 15/6 lightweight, 8-ohm, neo cab is up for sale. I'm looking for £325 or near offer for this orange beauty, which I think is a pretty reasonable price given the cost of a new Eminence 3015LF driver is around £250 at Blue Aran at the moment. The cab is working perfectly, sounds amazing; great dispersion, crystal clear and punchy and can handle a lot of power. Background I bought this in spring 2024 from @2x18, aka Will, for whom it was a combination of part self-build and part outsourced build. Here's what Will told me about the build, which I hope he won't mind me sharing: "Hi Nik I have been trying to find info about my build but can't seem to find any -- I built it with all new recommended parts including a Pro built cabinet to exact spec I had made by "Speakerbuilder" that used to be on the forum. They also supplied the pro build crossover, Speakers were as recommended on the Green Boy site -- Brand new new Eminence 3015LF and the recommended neo HF unit. Hope this helps you with the sale -- Its a really great cab!" Specs are : Height: 31" / 79 cms Width: 21" / 53 cms Depth: 16.5" / 42 cms Weight: approx. 46 lbs / 21 kgs Power rating : 450 watts rms Cover: Roqsolid. A Google AI search had this to say about the Greenboy Fearful 15/6: "The Greenboy (fEARful) 15/6 is a popular DIY bass cabinet known for its high-fidelity, flat, and natural sound with powerful, tight low-end, clear mids, and the option for bright highs. Key features include its lightweight design (especially for the performance) and versatility, with some users noting it can even be used like a PA system for other sources. The 15/6 is a design you build yourself or purchase as a custom build, and it's often praised for its exceptional performance that rivals more expensive commercial cabinets." Photos attached are a combination of mine and Will's from last year (thanks Will👍). Happy to do more if required. Reason for sale Amazing as this cab is, it's almost too clean, transparent and hifi sounding for me, hence why I've bought a slightly heavier, old school Mesa 115 instead. And much as I'd like to keep the Greenboy, I don't have enough space due to living in a small cottage... Deal? This cab pairs really well with my Mesa Carbine head that's also up for sale, so if anyone is interested in both items, I'd be happy to do a deal on a price for the two as a rig.... Postage, collection etc It's too big to post I think, so collection from Potton, east Central Bedfordshire, or a meet up anywhere between where I live and North West London is possible too, as I work in Ealing 2 or 3 days a week. I could also take this with me to the South East Bass Bash on Sunday 9th November if that helps.. Trials very welcome btw, with plenty of tea/coffee and Basschat chat thrown in.. Anyway questions, please ask and thanks for looking. 👍☺️ Cheers Nik

Had the pleasure of meeting @MarkBuffaloStokes, aka, Mark for the first time today, whilst buying a fab sounding Mesa Diesel 115 cab from him. In typical Basschat fashion, we had a great 10, 15 minute chat about vintage bass gear, playing in bands, and going for that old-school authentic tone in our playing.. It was good, life-affirming stuff! And to be honest, I'm pretty sure we could have kept chatting a whole lot more. As has been said above and suffice to say, Mark's a great guy to deal with, excellent comms and he makes everything straightforward and easy - which is a real bonus when you don't live anywhere near each other. So, highly, highly recommended to one and all here on the forum. Thanks Mark, really appreciate you making it so easy to get this deal done! 🙏 Cheers Nik

*** Now SOLD *** Hi Folks, I've recently acquired a Handbox head, so am putting up for sale, this incredible Mesa Boogie Walkabout Combo. I'm looking for £650 or near offer and am not looking for any trades It's in really good condition and works perfectly and comes with the original cover. Here's a brief description an spec summary: The Mesa Boogie Walkabout Combo 15 is a 300-watt hybrid bass combo amp featuring a 4-stage tube preamp, 6 tube-driven MOSFETs in its Simul-State power section, and a 15-inch neodymium speaker with a 10-inch passive radiator. Key specs include active/passive inputs, a 3-band semi-parametric EQ, and a balanced direct line output with a ground lift switch. It weighs approximately 63 lbs (28.6 kg). Though I've owned a Mesa Big Block 750, the Titan, an M-Pulse 600 and a Carbine, I still think there's something really magical about the Walkabout sound, and together with the 15" driver and downward facing 10" passive radiator, it is a brilliant gigging tool for us weekend warriors who still love the thrill of a bass rig blasting away behind us whilst playing! Backstory is that I got this in a trade with @jarc11 on here a few years ago, and here's the link to his original advert: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/459789-traded-mesa-boogie-walkabout-15/#comment-4656526 For now I'm using a few of his photos (hope that's OK 🙏) , but will add some more of my own tomorrow. A recent bout of sciatica has meant I'm trying to reduce the weight of some of my gigging bass gear, hence the acquisition of the Handbox, but - pound for pound - I still think this is one of the best bass combos ever made. Collection from Potton, Central Bedfordshire or meet up by prior arrangement. I will not ship this for obvious reasons. If my Carbine sells before this, then I'll probably withdraw this from sale because I really do love it. But for now, it's up for grabs. Let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for looking. Cheers Nik

Hi Folks, Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of buying an immaculate Handbox R400 head from Russ, aka @RJB280. The amp itself is fantastic, and with this being the version 2 model with the mid eq, it's even better than I remember these amps to be. Whilst there, I had a really nice chat (about all things bass) with Russ, and I can only reiterate what's been said above in that, he's an absolute gent and a great person to do a deal with. Highly, highly recommend.... 👍 Russ - thanks for your time and warm welcome, and thanks also for letting me have a play on your lovely early 60s P and J basses, which were stunning! 🙏😊 Cheers Nik

2025 SE Bass Basheroonie! Sunday 9/11/25 *CONFIRMED*
silverfoxnik replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Events
Hi @Mike Brooks, Obviously, I can't speak for the organisers of this Bash, but from a punters perspective, It would be great to have you there on the day if you can make it. In my experience, the South East Bass Bash has massively benefited over the years from the contributions of a wide variety of professional players, who have shared some of their unique experiences and insights... So a talk /presentation by your good self on the day would be absolutely amazing. All being well, I look forward to meeting you there! Cheers Nik -

Morning Folks, Am having a rethink and refresh on the bass rig front, so this beautiful piece of Mesa Boogie engineering is back up for sale only I'm looking for £600, or near offer. See above for all the superlatives to describe this amp, but suffice to say, it sounds superb, with intuitive and comprehensive e.q., and more than enough power and headroom for most gigging situations. Postage isn't an option, but collection or meet ups in and around Bedfordshire SG19, where I live, or London, where I work, are both welcome and possible. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
