My wife is a huge fan and she’s made lifelong friends around the contest. In terms of relevance, it’s probably got more than another Dark Side of the Moon rerelease or scraping the barrel for another Beatles out take.

Its all harmless fun and long may it continue!

That's great, and I get that it's basically a light entertainment show.

But, being the aging, grumpy, muso that I am, I'll quite  happily continue listening to more Beatles and Floyd outtakes and re-releases for my musical entertainment....

That said, it does seem to have become quite political in recent years, which is an unexpected and interesting development.

After all the shit of the last few years - not just Eurovision but everything - could this be the turning point......?

No. I can't see this particular choice of UK song contest entrant having a seismic impact on world affairs Chris.

Does anyone really care about Eurovision anyway...?

It's a very, very outdated and tired idea IMHO.

  3. Just had the pleasure of dealing with @Stewart for the first time, who's kindly sold me a really cool and great sounding Dave Hall preamp.

It was the perfect Basschat transaction because Stewart's comms have been great from start to finish, and the preamp arrived in super-quick time and in bullet-proof packaging. All in all, an excellent experience...

Suffice to say that you can deal with Stewart in complete confidence, Folks! 👌

And thanks for the preamp Stewart - I know I'm going to enjoy it! 👍😊

    Cheers, Nik

  4. I recently bought a vintage Trace head from @King Tut and though not exactly the same series as this one, I'm amazed at how good it sounds, and how much 'clout' it has to borrow your word @Sparky Mark

Based on that, this amp must sound fantastic, especially with the matching cabinet!

As Mick said, "... gear didn't get better it just got lighter."

    GLWTS 👍😊

    Agreed Mick,

Whilst the SMX series added some useful bells and whistles such as compression and a blendable valve/solid state preamp, the Series 6 has a certain immediate clarity with clout never bettered by Trace Elliot.

  5. Wow, I was only thinking about this bass the other day @sambecker1.

I bet it sounds glorious now with those Pino flats and new pots.

As you say, the neck on this is lovely and, it definitely has an authoritative, funky character to it sonically, what with that one-piece ash body and maple neck...

As I said in my for sale ad for it last year, this bass belonged to the late, great and very much-missed Nick Smith, so it has proper Basschat provenance to it... I think we can all agree that Nick knew a good bass when he played/heard one... And this lovely old, vintage Hardpuncher is definitely one of those!

I'm sorry to see it up for sale again so soon, but it really is a 'players bass' that deserves to be played - so hopefully it'll find a new home on here soon.  🙏

Best of luck with the sale, Sam! 👍😊

Two days in.  Rusty start, bit of hand pain, bit of a struggle until things loosened up.

    Back in next week.

Great to hear this news, Paul! 🙏

You're such a creative person, it must have been torturous not being able to play and make music for so long.

Look forward to hearing what happens next.. 😊👍

    All the best, Nik

  7. Still usung my B3 regularly...

Apart from the fact that it's so versatile (tuner/fx unit/drum machine for home practice/digital interface etc), it has some great sounding patches including some very good amp models.

The patches I use most on it though are the compressors, in particular the DBX compressor which, in a gigging situation, is so, so useful!

I bought another one on here last year so I have 2 now; one for rehearsals and gigs that's permanently packed in my accessories case, and the other just sits at home on my practice amp.

For this price, this is an absolute bargain!

Best of luck with the sale. 👍😊

I have taken the brave decision to launch a new print and digital bass magazine for the UK market.

I've been publishing magazines in my day job for 27 years and think it's terrible that we don't have a dedicated magazine anymore.

We launch the mag officially at the Birmingham Bass & Guitar Show next month where we will have a small stand and giving away a sample issue (while stocks last) - we will then publish quarterly moving forward. Editor is Joel McIver who ran Bass Guitar magazine and then Bass Player so no cheap AI generated content here!

    Website is here

You can subscribe via the website - our socials launch on Monday.

If you are at the show next month come and say hello - be nice to put faces to names. The cover of our sample issue is here for your thoughts and comments.

    Amazing stuff @Gunsfreddy2003! 👌👏😊

So good to see something like this ; genuine, real and dare I say it - 'old school'.

It's exactly what we need to halt the endless flood of intangible, faceless, online 'content we're all drowning in...

Will definitely check it out and support.  👍

  9. Hi Folks,

Echoing all the uber-positive feedback above for David, aka, @MungoBass, who I've just bought an Hughes and Kettner Red 5 DI/cab simulator 'thingamajig' from...

.. To be honest, I've no idea what it does, or how to use it, but it's exactly as described and it looks really cool...

    😆

Anyway, back on topic, David's a great person to deal with, super-quick delivery and good comms throughout.. All in all, s credit to the Basschat community!

And yes, this InPost thing is really good isn't it @Owen.... 😁

Anyway, thanks again David and all the best for now! 🙏😊

I am popping this back up for sale, as I've decided I prefer headed basses, with a very skinny nut.

The funds will go towards a headed fretless 6 string ACG to compliment my recently acquired ACG fretted 6er, therefore no trades please.

Here we have an immaculate ACG Salace E Type.

    This is a 6 string, tuned B to C, headless, bolt-on construction.

The scale length is 31.5" and the playability is incredible, the low B is musical and lacks nothing compared to long scale basses.

As you will see from the design at the "head end", the strings are held in with grub screws so you can use any strings you want, you are not tied to double ball end strings.

The bass is very lightweight for a 6er, I would in the 8 lbs range.

The design is super ergonomic both seated and standing, but without looking like one of those weird ergo basses

Official listing on the ACG site here >> https://acguitars.co.uk/project/0211-salace-e-type-headless-6-31-5/

You can also here some sound samples here >>

And finally, a video of some noodles here >>

    Specs as follows >>

    Top Wood: Flame Koa

    Back Wood: Mahogany
    Body Core: Spruce
    Accent Veneer: Black
    Body Finish: Satin Lacquer

Neck: 3-piece American Ash with slim asymmetrical profile
    Fingerboard: Cocobolo with flat/zero radius
    Scale: 31.5″
    Back Plate: Koa
    Neck Finish: Satin Laquer

Pickups: 2 x ACG FB (stacked sidewinder style humbuckers, wired in series, hand wound by Aaron Armstrong)
Hardware: ETS tuning unit and bridge, ACG Custom Headpiece, Dunlop Dual Design Straplocks, ACG/Newton Custom Nickel Strings (28-125TW), East Low Battery Indicator
Pre-amp: East Uni-Pre 4K (3 band with adjustable mids, passive tone control and active/passive switching)

    Nut width: 54mm

    Bridge Spacing: 16.5mm

The bass comes with a top of the range Fusion Urban guitar sized gigbag, also in mint condition and a perfect fit, these things retail over £200 and are comparible to the top of the range Mono bags

The bass is in perfect condition, never been gigged, home use only.

Price is £1700 ono, no trades please.

I am selling a fretless 6 string headless ACG in another ad, and I would be willing to do a deal on these as a pair.

UK only, but will consider an EU based sale.

Shipping, with insurance at buyer's expense.

    Cheers,

    Eude

That's a very handsome looking instrument you have there @eude

And the soundcloud clips - 'Old Piece' - in particular, are great!

    GLWTS 👍😊

  11. Just did a very nice deal with @petecarlton

Who I can't speak highly enough about..

... Great comms, easy to deal with and all round top Basschatter, so deal with in complete confidence, Folks! 👌😊

Thanks again Pete and I hope you enjoy the Eden head.

  12. Just bought a lovely vintage Trace amp from @King Tut, aka Colin, who - apart from being a really easy and great person to deal with - happens to own two fantastic Rickenbacker 4003 basses! 👌👌

I was on my way to a rehearsal unfortunately, so there wasn't enough time to stay longer for the obligatory 'bass chat', but I hope we can get to do that at some point in the future, because I know it'll be a lot of fun. 😁

Suffice to say that you can deal with Colin in complete confidence, Folks. 👍

Thanks a lot for the Trace head Colin, and here's to the next one... 😊

    Cheers, Nik

That's some pretty impressive niche knowledge mate. I do remember the name Yip Yip Coyote, but must've erased that song from memory. Where on earth does a band go after that song?

Nowhere as a band, to be honest.

But Eg has had a pretty stellar career since then, as artist/writer/producer.

The reason I know this is that I was in a band at the time and we knew Yip Yip Coyote, went to the same gigs, clubs etc.. Plus, they were big BowWowWow fans, like my band were, so we shared common musical influences, tastes etc.

I nearly bought an Odyssey bass myself back in the mid 90s (that was being advertised on Loot) , told myself I couldn't afford it, and then regretted it for months afterwards.. What a fool I was! 🤦😁
