1. We will normally only pay £140 to play in our local pub and refuse to pay much more...http://www.theportlandarms.co.uk/wp/faqs/ I'm being facetious of course, you're prob spot on / could get away with adding a bit (or a few free beers )
2. I kept mine in an unheated shed for about 5 years - absolutely fine. Now been in an unheated garage for 2.5 years - absolutely fine. It is a Marshall tho...
3. Thanks!! I'm getting the local car shop to do it... Before you laugh, they do it a lot of guitars ./ basses and were kind enough to send lots of photos of previous examples work with their quotation for reassurance. I'm not looking for anything to rival my Jag in terms of tone or playability, it's literally just a whim. Good choice sir - I considered Sea Foam Green for a while...
4. Cheers Paul! I was beginning to question my own sanity then!
5.
I think the £3,700 refers to the 12-string guitar at the top of the article. £1,950 is the RRP for these basses by the looks of things.
£1,950 For both basses? That still makes them nearly a grand each!
6. Do they exist? I'm after a cheaper Jag to refinish (In Sonic Blue thanks for asking). I already play a 'proper' Jag, but there's no way I can bring myself to take a sheet of sandpaper to an £1,100 bass. Looking at all the squires, all I can find are 30" scales, but every now and then on review / American sites someone says 34". i.e. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/squier-vintage-modified-jaguar-electric-bass-guitar-special/h71306 So, can I get a full size Squire Jag in the UK?!
7. I'm in exactly the same boat! The Jag has been my workhorse, used every day for nearly a decade. In Hot Rod Red with the matching headstock (phworr) But.... To have it in Daphne Blue.... Oh my...
8. Great night overall. Promised a house amp. When I asked about the cab the soundman laughed and said "Oh that's just for show, it doesn't work, you cant even plug it in!" He turned the bass up in the stage monitors to so all good. We were expecting it to be quiet, so threw 4 new songs into our 9 song set...Which of course guaranteed the place was rammed! The headline band Dead Frequency were fantastic! Check them out if you get a chance!
9.
He needs to write keys, opening chords etc. on his lyric sheets. Getting his phone out at the gig is defo a no no,
I'm in a couple of bands, one of which has a 'regular repertoire' of 38 songs. So I write the keys on the set list. I don't ever need them, it's just a comfort blanket. Why not suggest that?
10. I've always relied on a 4x10. My personal taste prefers the punchier tone of a 10" to a 12". I've got a Marshal MBC410 on Castors which I think is on the heavy side (not lifted many other cabs). But TBH I'm 5'6", have never set foot inside a gym, and have no trouble at all lifting it in and out of the car. It's always given my plenty of headroom, especially for those dodgy gigs where you arrive and find out there's no option of putting the bass through the PA.
11. That one off the Grand Prix, and that one by the White Stripes...
12. The aim of the game is to play waaay louder than you normally do. Crank up the low end - it's not often you get to push the drivers beyond they're limit with no repercussions.... I'm joking of course, but it seems to be the attitude of everyone that I've ever lent a cab to.
Just turn up with your gear in the car....check out what's on stage, and make a decision on what to use there and then. If you are not happy with what's already provided, go to plan B...your gear in the back of the car....
Exactly this. Is just what I'm doing tonight in fact
13.
One tiny patch of carpet on a bare stage
Reminds me of one of my ex's....
14. So our next few bookings are big gigs, with tickets between £30 - £45... So we're doing a show in our home town - Free of charge! Cornerhouse, Newmarket Road, 8pm. See ya there. Also playing are the fantastic 'Dead Frequency'
15. It's happened again to me again this week. I'm more offended than ever tho. Its for a large festival, plenty of stages. We done a fair few 'benefit' gigs for them over the last 12 months, handing them several thousands of pounds. Its getting a bit close to the festival now, so we asked about our slot (which has obv been discussed throughout this whole process) and it seems they have completely forgotten us. They have offered to fit us in on the shittest stage (mainly spoken word poetry - we're a full on 5 piece punk band) for 30 mins. On the proviso we leave our gear there for everyone to use. Its almost comical how often this is happening to us. But TBH just felt so offended by this one. 16.
I don't see how she can possibly complain about it. A cabinet is a cabinet, surely..?
She barely notices nowadays...
17. The worst bit about TINY crowds is that half of them are usually made up of the other bands. Meaning at least 50% of the audience are musicians...watching your every move...
18. My missus entrusted me to "Get a cabinet for the hallway" The look on her face as I wheeled the 4x10 in....
19. Yeah, I'm about 80-90%. Then if I have a solo coming up, or the guitarist gets a bit cocky I can dial myself up a bit!
20. Had to Streetview it to see what all the fuss was about...
21.
How have you found the sound from the go pro for clarity, I'm only listening on a iPad so can't really tell
Its actually OK. I mean it's not Abbey Road quality, But... If you leave the waterproof case on it, it nicely reduces all of the clipping you get with 99% of live recordings! For what it is... its ace.
22. Isn't it just a polite way of saying "You're playing out of time"? Like the way I sing "Just off pitch"....
23. My band Von Nitros performing 'Vile' Live - GoPro on the monitor at the front & a camera resting on my amp behind me. Audio straight from the GoPro. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4vsdBWAFXkU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> https://youtu.be/4vsdBWAFXkU
24. Ahh... We've played one or two of these in our time! The last time we were setting up & testing our gear, probably about 1/4 volume of gigging volume. The Landlords first words were "You're too loud. You'll have to turn down later, the football is on at the same time as you are" No "You find the plugs alight?" "Can I grab you lads a drink?" So we play twice our usual volume. Most people are having fun...especially us Halfway through the first set we have a song called "Barking up the wrong tree" Our singer promptly gets on all fours, starts barking, and scuttles into the now quite rowdy crowd. Into the darkness, and we lose sight of him. His mic goes silent, the barking stops... We look at each other confused, but keep playing. After an eternity (8 mins?) he arrives back on stage, torn T-shirt, profusely sweating, mumbling about the landlord... You've all got to do it once right?.
