  1. @durhamboy I meant in a finished bass for example I would record the same riff on a few of my basses that are all made out of different body timbers and different fretboards then put the people to the test who whole heartedly believe that the wood used is the most important part the bass to identify the woods used just by ear alone and if they can do it I will then believe the whole ‘tonewood’ thing but until that happens I’m going to remain sceptical........but I guarantee most people would be able to easily identify whether it’s a Jazz, Precision, Stingray, Rick etc tho Like others on this thread have also said it just feels a bit like a marketing ploy if you want to make your neck sound more ‘bossy’ then add 3 ebony laminates oh yeah and that will cost you over 3k extra and pair that with a medium growly Coco bolo fretboard for an extra 500 like the OP I find this laughable if you really buy into the tonewood thing if they told you that they can impregnate the body wood with unicorn sweat which will make it sound more ‘tonal and magical’ for an extra 8k some people would believe it and think that it will make a difference and probably order it Sorry if I come across like I’m belittling anyone’s opinion I’m just giving my honest opinion
  2. No sorry I really couldn’t!! Maybe you’ve got a better ear for it than me? Now to me this dramatically different In my opinion the big test for whether which wood you use makes a difference would be if you could identify what wood the bass is just by sound alone??
  3. I just listened through earphones and I heard that when played acoustically there was a very slight difference in sound but when he powered it up they sounded the same which in my opinion just backs up my previous post
  4. I completely agree with the fact the set up is the most important thing you can do to a bass as I have a really cheap bitsa P Bass that cost me the pricey sum of £25 which I refinished, put a new £30 eBay special neck on it and strung it with flats then spent a good few hours tweaking everything so it was set up to exactly how I like it and it’s probably my favourite bass to play, I’ve got another couple of basses that I need to take the time and set up but haven’t had the chance? Amd paying for someone to change your strings to me is ludicrous it’s really not difficult!!........
  5. Is it White boys and Heroes by Gary Numan??
  6. Sounds a bit Tool-esque or am I way off bass??
  7. Unfortunately this is an argument that is going to go on till the end of time!!!! In my opinion and what I’ve experienced in the difference between my basses is they all have maple necks and quite a few of them have Rosewood boards and some have Maple boards but they have different body woods (Alder, Basswood, Paulownia, Ply etc) and they all sound different but is that because of the timber combinations or is it they all have different style pickups in them or is it they sound different because some are passive and some are active????? So my point is I think the choice of pickups and preamps etc is more important than the timber used, and does the timber really make that much difference to the sound or do we like to think there is a difference to justify the fact that spending ridiculous amounts on custom basses using exotic woods in the necks and bodies will give you the sound you want????? But there again I might be completely wrong!!............🤔
  8. Congrats we have a winner!!! 🍾🍾🍾
  9. Yah I finally got one!!!! Here’s another quick easy one (it’s the only other one I’ve got ready) I’m going to do some more tonight just in case??
  10. Oooooohhhh oooooohhhh inner circle bad boys!!!
  11. I think we might need a clue well I definitely do anyway.........😀
  12. We have a winner 👍 Told you it was easy!!!!!.........😀
  13. I was having a few technical issues when trying to do this 1. I was playing like S#*t 2. It sounded like S#*t So please excuse the playing and the really annoying fretbuzz that suddenly appeared from nowhere
  14. In that case I’ll put my one in it’s a stupidly easy one!!!.......😀
  15. I’m still not quite ready so if anyone else wants to go please go ahead
  16. I was thinking the same thing .........😀
  17. I’m not entirely sure myself yet but from what I’ve read and the comments on the thread linked it has something to do with making you have a lighter touch by stopping you digging in to much and can help with playing faster with more accuracy????? I think you may be able to slap against it but it will make the pops very difficult tho.......🤔
  18. You must have already read the thread then!!😆
  19. I got one of them aswell but it didn’t fit between my pickups........😜
  20. Just a quick update it’s all done and it’s a nice and snug fit! I had a very quick noodle it feels really strange but I’ll persevere with it...........😀
  21. I’ll try and do one tonight I’ve got a few ideas if everyone else doesn’t mind?
  22. Damn it!!!! That was one I finally knew 🤬
  23. I don’t know if anyone will be interested but I decided to make a bass ramp just to try them out and see if I like them so I thought I’d do a little thread for anyone else thinking of doing it?? Firstly I made a template for the ramp Using the the edge of the pickups I marked out the size of the pickups and the gap between them Then cut the template to size and started marking out for the pickup lugs Next you need to cut out the semi circles for the lugs and check that your template fits nice and snug Next you need to get the radius of you fretboard so you can shape the top of the ramp so it sits nicely up against your strings Now it’s tome to transfer the template on to the material your going to use, because I’ve never used one before I didn’t want to shell out for a nice lump of ebony so I’m using 12mm ply I find it easier to drill the holes first before you cut the ply to the correct width but remember not to drill all the way through as it just needs to be slightly deeper than the height of the pickup lugs and screws Then I cut the ramp out and marked out the radius of the fret board I used a upside belt sander to sand the radius on the top I sanded the edges slightly more than the radius just to give it a smoother edge Then I used a permanent marker to blacken off the two edges that butt up against the pickups Next I cut some Matt Black vinyl to cover it with I cut the vinyl back at a slight angle so it makes it easier to wrap round the edges then trimmed the width Once you’ve wrapped it here’s the finished ramp, all in all I think it took about 15mins to make When I get home from work later I’ll check it fit’s and the post an update........... 😀
  24. Thanks for your advice, I was going to ask about if you use a pick does the ramp get in the way because some songs I do use a pick? i understand that it’s not a magic fix but I’m new (again?) to playing after not picking up a bass for near on 20 years so I thought it’s worth a try and just to see if I get on with it??............😀 i don’t know if anyone will be interested but I’m going to do a little build thread on how I made the ramp
  25. I could say the same mate don’t you read previous post Reggaebass posted the same link 3 hours ago.............😜
