  1. They are the two I mostly use as well I found the blues box a really helpful video.........👍
  2. I’ve been using become a bassist videos on YouTube I find them more engaging than the talking bass ones and he does online courses as well
  3. No worries mate thought it was worth a shout anyway 👍
  4. If you haven’t dumped them yet I’m in the market for a tele body??
  5. I know what you mean but he wipes the floor with me playing bass as well.........🤣
  6. Thanks everyone for the advice I’ve arranged to have a jam with my mates band (their bass player got a bit arsey cos he thought they were trying to replace him!) in a couple of weeks luckily they are a Blues/Jimi Hendrix tribute band and I feel quite comfortable playing the blues just got to work on my turnarounds a bit On a side note if you are local to the North Wales/Chester area and you see a band called Crash Landing playing a gig they are really good and well worth going to see.........👍
  7. Damn it I’ve been rumbled!! The other month I just thought I want to learn something new so I thought let’s try and learn about electronics so I started reading about Ohms law and Kirchoffs laws which seemed nice and straight forward but then I started trying to learn about sine waves and sound modulation using electronics and that went way over my head the formulae and the maths involved was just too hard!! so I saw an overdrive pcb going for really cheap so I thought why not give it a go!! I’m working out what I need and how much to build a tube amp head so that will be a future project..........,
  8. When I was back down in Essex there was open mic nights every night of the week somewhere but now I live in rural north wales they seem to be few and far between Two of my mates both play in bands but with kids, work, gigs etc it’s hard trying to get time have a jam and the other thing is not that I think my one of my mates would ever say your not good enough or anything but he is an awesome guitarist and I feel a bit intimidated to jam with him!
  9. I hope this isn’t too off topic with the OP but it’s kinda related but how did you know you were ready to join a band?? I really want to join a band but fear my playing ability wouldn’t be up to scratch and if I audition I’ll just get laughed at and told to jog on!! I don’t know if it’s a confidence thing or I’m just not good enough??..........
  10. I don’t like that so I’m gonna go for ‘Pedantic Platypus’ instead.......😜
  11. Melancholy Platypus Nonchalant Koala Overactive Sloth Satisfied Meerkat Exhausted Gerbil I think @Barking Spiders definitely on to something!!! (I’m calling dibs on Melancholy Platypus!)
  12. When I was younger and in a punk band I always wanted to call us “never mind the sex pistols here’s my bollocks” but I got overruled!!
  13. I’ve been listening to a lot of (rock??) blues and really liking Ritchie Kotzen at the mo
  14. Update: I finally got round to wiring everything up and the sound quality is surprisingly quite good on clean but it does severely lack in volume (but it’s adequate for home use) unless you have the gain switch on and it does go quite loud the problem is that with the gain on it has a really bad sounding distortion!! I think that it’s definitely not for bass but a guitar would sound ok!?! I’m in the process of building an Overdrive pedal and a Bass fuzz pedal and if they go ok then I might build a booster which might make it sound better??............🤔
  15. Funny you mentioned scorched I was thinking of going down that method but decided to stain it black and knock it back to give a kinda weathered look instead!?! It’s a good way to relieve stress as well when you start belting ten bells of poop out of it with chains and bolts then go at with a utility knife!! it’s probably going to be a bit marmite but I don’t really like the road worn look yet I like the knackered weathered timber look but we’ll have to wait and see how it turns out.........🤞
  16. Here’s the start of my Les Paul/Tele hybrid Barncaster type thing!!!! Its going to have a Maple/Maple neck not sure if I’m going to do a Tele style or a Les Paul style neck with relict Chrome hardware, Single coil pickup at the bridge and Humbucker at the neck I've been experimenting with ways to relic the Chrome and I've found that brick cleaner with a lump of wire wool in it gives me the finish I was looking for............😀
  17. Here’s a barncaster........just imagine a Tele made out of knackered timber and relict hardware Or a Les Paul Tele hybrid Barncaster Typically they are made from reclaimed timber off barns hence the name..........👍
  18. Yep it’s another guitar it’s either gonna be a les Paul tele hybrid or a barncaster haven’t decided yet.............🤔
  19. Well “The Skipper” is now finished and being delivered tomorrow In true Jimothey style I decided to do a last minute change and have two humbuckers instead of a single coil at the neck 👍
  20. +1 very tasty!!!
  21. I’ve ended up buying new pickups as there’s no output from the humbucker and the single coil the wires were just stuck with tape to the coil so I didn’t have anywhere to solder new wires to!!............🙄
  22. Oh and I forgot how do you tell which is the north/south as they both have slugs and generally which way round do they put the + and -??
  23. I’m trying to finish my skip find guitar build and the wiring is being a bit of a PITA the neck pickup has only 1 wire coming off it and it’s too sort to put the bare wire to ground on the pot and the hot to the switch, so I’m thinking of unsoldering the original wire and put 2 separate wires on instead which should be fine and easy enough to do The main problem is the humbucker the wire is a 4 core wired in parallel and that wire is a bit too short to split them so I’m thinking of changing the wiring to series instead so if I understand how it works then this is how I’m going to do it solder a new wire to the north + to use as the hot and then solder a new wire to the south - for the ground, then solder a wire between the north - and the south+ then just wire it up to the switch and ground as normal Is that the correct way to do it??.........🤞
  24. I don’t use any clear coat that finish is about 4 coats of satin black which seems to be a very durable finish....,.....😀
  25. I’m 40 and just got back into playing the bass I appreciate others opinions that what’s the point of playing if your not in a band but you can have just as fun at home playing with yourself (oooh errrr missus!!) my aim is to play in a band but I need to build up my confidence on my playing ability first before that happens but like everyone else has said you are never too old go for it I say!! On a side note I’ve got a couple of grade books that I was going to start working through how useful do people find them in making you a better bass player?.........😀
