  1. in the upper diagram I would also connect the two negative poles of the upper drivers. Instead of two 16Ω stacks in parallel have two 4Ω stacks connected in series. If one driver fails in the diagram as is then two drivers cease operation. Following my suggestion three drivers will still operate which might well get you through the gig.
  2. Very nice. I hope it serves you well.
  3. Considering that a one centimetre cube of such a deceased star weighs something akin to ten aircraft carriers that would indeed be heavy! LOL
  4. If you were playing multiple amps through the same speaker cabinet when they failed I would suggest that your cabinet was at fault as the common denominator. Were you using a speaker cable terminated with 1/4" Phone jacks?
  5. The best 50W amp I ever owned was Leak TL50+ that I bought for five quid. I built a single ECC83 pre-amp, powered from the Leak and it worked very well. When I left the band to work outside of the city the new bass player exchanged his Bassman head for my Leak set up.
  6. The Bassman doesn't get 'Furry' it just gets full blown distortion. If you're going to the trouble of building an amp why not build something that's actually useful?
  7. Doing what you suggest you might run into that the amp has no top cover and you'll have to fabricate something to suit.
  8. The UK was always 240V 50Hz all the time I lived there.
  9. But they've got clothes on!! No fair! LOL
  10. Well said Andy!
  11. Just as a point Class D amps use MOSFETs too.
  12. A. lot of Class D amps use a drop in module so the differences could be the pre-amp circuitry mated to them.
  13. But it's ORANGE!!!
  14. All of my Class AB power amps have been replaced by Class D units. I have no problems with them in power, tone or 'feel'.
  15. Be very careful - tube amps operate at lethal voltages and can do so ever after it has been switched off!!
  16. Problem with Class AB is the cooling required for the output devices. A large heavy heatsink is a necessity plus fans to increase the airflow over them.
  17. QSC make excellent power amps. Think about a 4U rack case like SKB. 2U power amp the bottom, SVP in the top and a ventilated 1U panel in the centre to aid in cooling flow. It's the way I went and there was no messing about searching out a decent 1U power amp.
  18. I have not used the 500 but I did use the 350 2x10. It was the first fender amp that had ever impressed me. It filled a fairly large bar and handled every thing that my Six String Fretless could throw at it.
  19. As did I. A lovely Blonde blackface Bassman and it's matching twin 12 in late 1968. It lasted a weekend before I could return it. I still get nightmares about it. The worst amplifier I ever had the misfortune to play through.
  20. The 4Ω tap only gives you more power if connected to a 4Ω load.
  21. It's hard to get good help!! I'm glad you finally got it sorted!
  22. Plop plop fizz fizz oh what a relief it is!
  23. IIRC the cabinet design for users to build were the Fearful range. Dave Green reserves the Fearless moniker for his own productions.
  24. Will you PLEASE turn that lot down! I'm trying to take a nap over here!!!
  25. A lot of 2x10 users position them this way including me.
