  1. anyone remember this compilation?
  2. VOX is owned by Korg now & making their products in Vietnam. If my VX50BA was destroyed tomorrow, I'd buy another immediately, w/o any consideration for something else. TBH I wish they sold the Super Beetle head separately, as I'd like to plug it into a RevSound 2x8" with Celestions.
  3. Sure, but they are the exception, when people are talking about Nickel strings, it's usually NPS (Nickel-Plated STEEL).
  4. This story is all over the place, so if the guy wanted some attention, he has gotten it. Local radio has a $1k USD giveaway daily & in their long blurb to promote that, they mention the 'SkeloCaster' & say that the dude could have purchased a real guitar if he'd won their giveaway.
  5. I don't like J-bass pickups, too narrow. I could go for a double-P with DiMarzio's: I have double split-coils in my current #1, so it does everything I need: This is what the Nordstrand Big-Splits look like under the cover. If I balance to the neck pickup & roll back the treble-cut knob, instant P-bass sound.
  6. There's nothing wrong with buying instruments & amps, but hoarding them is just strange to me, & not something to aspire to.
  7. I do believe that often a new acquisition seems better at first, while it might not actually be better, but just different. However, my big bass purchases over the last few years were always upgrades, most recently being the Ergonomic Headless by Ibanez. No more tennis-elbow, & it has a better EQ & stiffer neck than my Premium Soundgear. It might become The One, as in the only one, soon. Right now I'm down to two electrics & one amp, unless you count plugging into my PC as a 2nd amp. What 'gets me' is the folks with the large collections feel like we should admire them, but I feel pity. It's like an albatross.
  8. Low End Lobster has videos about the 1005MS: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClpTFnWcfIg4pcgFZ8dRTyg I'm almost sure he has a BH2 one & another with the Aguilars.
  9. Trouble is, the benefit from practicing every day doesn't become apparent for months, buying stuff gives that instant gratification. I wish I had back all the gasoline I blew out of my vehicle driving to Guitar Center & Sam Ash, not to mention the miles I put on my vehicle.
  10. I'm more pedantic than most, which has caused me a load of grief as I get older & more obsessive-compulsive, but this one isn't as bad as guitar-players constantly referring to their vibrato bridges as tremolos, or bass-players saying 'steel' when they are referring to STAINLESS steel strings. All strings designed for magnetic pickups are steel, but not all are stainless.
  11. They got their name from the 1/4" pole pieces, I'd never noticed there's no ER on the end, because everyone puts it there.
  12. Several years ago I was more into shopping for gear than I was in staying home & enjoying the things I already had. There's a meme about it, but I can never find it when I want it. There are two windows, 1 with a sign that reads "Learn how to use the gear your currently have", and the other is "Shop for new gear" The line for the buy new window is long & there's no one in line for 'learn how to use it'. TBH Depression set in when I finally stopped shopping, i was having no more 'honeymoon' periods. When the rubber meets the road, I am really bad at practicing.
  13. start with Sober, their best track IMHO, & from their original bass-player: I was there when they were becoming popular, they were on the side-stage at Lollapalooza II with RATM
  14. Just got back from a sale, my GSR100EX for only $100 USD. Guy would not just sod off after the transaction, instead he gets out his phone & is showing me photos 1 by 1 of his 50+ instrument collection. Who has the heart to tell him that he must be mentally ill? Buying up stuff just because it's a deal is some sort of sickness in my opinion. However, we are encouraged to Buy More almost everywhere in the player communities online. Even I am guilty of buying due to influence from the internet, but when it's the other way around NO one will take heed of the ONE guy who is commenting NOT to buy it just because it's there!
  15. The EHB has spoiled me. I keep a GSR around for BEAD tuning, but after playing it this weekend, I decided to sell it. Unfortunately since it's Valentines weekend, no one is interested in buying anything that isn't flowers, jewelry, or heart-shaped candy, LOL! Anyway, my decision came from two reasons, I just like the sound of those Nordstrands SO much that it spoils me, & the comfort. I have mild tennis-elbow from playing the GSR. I guess I'm officially a gear-snob now, I'm the guy who balks when folks tell me they have an ESP & then show me photos of a LTD 🤣
  16. Paul Baloff was like Bon Scott, a little nuts, but very entertaining onstage, also died young R.I.P. Cliff & Paul
  17. hmm, I wonder if FastWAY would be considered NWOBHM, Pete Way & Fast Eddie
  18. I made enemies with a couple of Punk/Alt fans in my class back then. One of them works near me now in in the local McDonald's, & we are acquainted, but the other guy works as a tennis instructor at the YMCA & won't speak to me at reunions or accept my friend request on FB, LOL! The stupid things we used to argue about:
  19. One of the Most Brutal mosh-pits I was ever in, Slayer being the other. I saw Exodus at the Vic Theatre in Chicago & 7 people were CARRIED out after 3 songs: Bonded by Blood Low Rider (cover) Toxic Waltz (when it really went OFF)
  20. Metallica was just a polished further progression of Purple, Motörhead, Venom. They should have been dropped from 'The Big Four' of thrash when they sold out. Exodus & Testament (from the bay area) were heavier hitters, but just didn't make it to Big Four status.
  21. If you want even brighter, try Cobalt. Cobalt flats sound close to roundwounds & will last forever. Cobalt rounds are the brightest strings out there.
  22. Didn't Black Sabbath write a couple of song about how Arden screwed them?, on Sabotage: Tony Iommi's book didn't go into the screwing so much as he did the drug supply. Apparently Arden kept the drugs flowing & the band was in a mist.
  23. Let's not forget that Sharon Osbourne's father was managing UFO. I'd be hard-pressed to not think he was stealing from them! Don Arden trained Peter Grant!
