  1. Yeah, maybe next year they'll come out with a EHB1505SMS with Nordstrands, depends on how sales go for the current offering.

  3. I've cited CoC as The Best shows I've ever been to, the other being L7. When they performed Lord of this World the crowd went nuts! Later their cover would appear on the Nativity in Black tribute album: CoC were so great I came back to see them again the next night, $12 USD at the door At the time I thought two-nights-in-a-row was some sort of standard for the Whisky a Go-Go, but alas it was the last time I'd see the same band two nights in a row. Earlier that same month I saw Lita Ford twice there, on my first two nights in L.A. The following day I got a haircut & on Monday morning I reported for duty in San Pedro (viewing distance to Long Beach Arena).
  4. Doom Metal is basically just original Heavy Metal, but since we have all these sub-genres now... bass & drums (that's all):
  5. The trouble is the supply to the labels is limitless, if they can't make money on X, they will spit them out & continue on with Y, ad nauseam. I'm reminded of what happened to the expat job-market in Thailand. In the 80s & 90s it was lucrative, & not that many expats were around. Over time more & more expat-oriented businesses opened & the word got back to the mainland that there's jobs here & the money is good. Folks arrived to work, & after getting that first job they got offered LESS to STAY. They think it over & realize the weather is better than back in Blighty, & so is the cost-of-living. This goes on & on until even the native-English speaking teachers are taking pay-cuts, because local Asians are undercutting the salaries. I realize the artists don't really have a choice, when they're given a contract they just sign it, because hey it's better than not being signed, or is it?
  6. Not name-dropping or bragging, because I'm sure many here are closer to the Music industry than I, but of the few people I know that have been in Music, none of them became wealthy. I'm thinking of people who had been on-stage with large acts like Lita Ford or W.A.S.P., later-on they're sleeping on their brother's sofa or summat.
  7. Some artists have complained about the paltry sums they're getting from Spotify or other Music streaming services. The other night I was watching this unfold on FB. A 'fan' was upset that Chevelle urged folks to buy specifically from their store: It's sad, & I'm sure true.
  8. Fender have been trying to 'up their game' for years by calling it a lifestyle: They literally wrote it, because figuratively writing never works out. I think it started around the time they introduced the Dee Dee Ramone signature bass with a lot of hoopla in NYC, attended by his widow & Johnny's widow, as well as some actual Punks, like Billy Idol & Steve Jones. Please don't look up their 'performance' that evening, it was horrific. The guitar with the split-coil pickups is just too similar to C.L. Fender's Z-Coils (G&L): Well, maybe not all that similar, because the Z-Coils would probably stomp all over whatever Fender did, LOL! Anyway, these new designs just remind me of that 'Lifestyle' thing, I think there are some Bohemians working in their Marketing department now.
  9. Strike one for me not paying attention to your previous post well enough & not being that familiar with StingRay controls. I remember they had something called 'The Game Changer', not sure if it's still a thing.
  10. The simplest way to avoid the scoop, if that's the goal, is to blend away from center. I blend back to the bridge pickup for that high-mids bump. Obviously if you wanted that mid-bump in the lows, you'd blend toward the neck pickup. For a while I was satisfied with a single humbucker, but recently had enough & sold that one.
  11. I've found the balanced-tension sets to be great, because usually the lowest string has the least tension, thanks to the stupid diameters that are chosen in sets: Right now I have a set of these on my 34" scale Premium Soundgear & it's tuned BEAD!
  12. Unless you have a parametric mid or just get lucky that the frequency on the EQ is right, you won't be putting back exactly where it was scooped. I'm a bit of 'cut only' kind of person when it comes to EQ. Get the fullest range of timbre you can organically from the pickups & then cut if you must, but boosting is so inorganic.
  13. I've never played in my bedroom. Do that many folks actually play in their bedroom?, for it to become the phrase? I'm too tone-deaf to be in a band & just this past weekend I was not motivated to play. I had the whole weekend to myself & played exactly two songs, LOL! I guess I should really commit to learning Anesthesia. It would sound fantastic on my little hybrid NuTube amp.
  14. Not just from 'reviewers', but even from our peers sometimes. I used to read scathing comments from other bass players about having to put up with people just like me, with the same sort of limitations. Years ago I started a 'I'm NEVER going to be in a band!' thread specifically because of the stories I read in the band management & gig reports pages. Of course I was assaulted by all & sundry commenting that Music is all about being in a band & sharing the performance & that bass is NOT a solo instrument. Five years on I'm still playing at home alone with no aspirations to join a band, but looking back I sometimes wish I had put it down then & just quit. It still crosses my mind on a weekly basis, but I've invested so much time & energy into this hobby.
  15. The sheet telling the factory worker what to include in the box states "manual", and since they haven't developed a manual specific to EHB, the factory worker tosses in 'the manual' that goes with all their instruments This is what we get with mass-produced instruments, just a fact of life. Has anyone specifically tested single-coil J-style pickups with an active blend & verify there is no scoop?
  16. Cliff cited The Misfits as a prominent influence, but I don't recall him mentioning SoM. I am reminded that I should learn some Craig Adams arrangements, that old Some Girls Wander disc has some gems on it! What was the 2nd song?, it's showing unavailable. It's not a big leap however, to think Cliff could have been listening to SoM along with the Misfits. The group of Goths I knew in L.A. enjoyed the Misfits. Hell, The Misfits notoriously made friends with Vampira: I had the Devilock hair style when I lived in L.A..
  17. I never even opened the manual that came with mine, because I identified it right away as the 'genera' manual they supply with all instruments. There is this:
  18. There are two threads about the VX50BA, I also own one & love, Love, LOVE it: 1 caveat about the Direct-Out, the amp must be powered on! so it's not 'that' direct
  19. That's what I've read as well & corresponds to my post at the top of this page. IME, 'dialed' in midrange isn't as aggressive-sounding as the real thing from the pickups. I like that high-mids bark I get from dialing the Nordstrand Big Singles towards the bridge pickup about 25%, that just can't be duplicated with an EQ. Granted, I can get close with the parametric mids knob on my EHB with Big Splits, but it's not as aggressive-sounding.
  20. I loathe Bartolini pickups, hope I'm not repeating myself from earlier in the thread. Unfortunately I can't hide it at all, I'm like Joey Ramone when I'm talking them down:
  21. Until they removed the wiring diagram support, I'd have commented that their documentation is great. They have complete BOMs for each model online: https://cs.hoshinogakki.co.jp/pcw.nsf Have not seen another other manufacturer with that depth of detail readily available.
  22. I look back at my posts on the topic now & think 'What a tosser that guy is!', in reference to myself! Ah well. I need to learn to harness my keyboard.
  23. Am I mistaken in thinking this 'phenomenon' is worse with single-coils than it is with humbuckers? I'm into the split-coil humbuckers & don't notice a scoop with two of those, however the instrument also has an A/C taper blend.
